What ever happened to the jerry rices,michael jordans,tim browns, steve youngs...i mean the sportsmanship of todays athletes are pathetic including michael vick, marcus vick, matt leinhart, i think his name is shaun taylor(the guy from redskins)...does anyone else get sick and tired of it or is it just me

And it's Sean Taylor--and he never spit in Pittman's face--go look at the video. Pittman said to the ref "he spit in my face" though the ref didn't see it, and the ref tossed him from the game, sight unseen (not a new phrase for referees, huh? [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]).

MV1's sportsmanship isn't that bad--not by today's standards anyways. One of the few qualms I ever had with him is when he ran for that TD in OT against Minnesota @Minny last year or year before, and threw the ball up into the stands and ran off the field into the tunnel. Not that bad, but unsportsmanlike to say the least.

MV2--agree 110%. Dude's a spoiled thug, and some of the blame on that falls to MV1, but at the same time, I think MV1 was trying to provide for MV2, and went over the line and MV2 became spoiled due to it, thinking he could do whatever he wants. I think MV1 needs to smack his lil bro around a lil bit and let him know he's out of line.

That is why I do not watch pro sports well not football and basketball. I see these guys making millions of dollars thinking everyone owes them something. What they do not realize is that when they do their crap on Sunday afternoon there are teenagers trying to do the same thing on Friday night. I know stripes can back me up on this we see kids trying to do some things the pros do and when we flag them for it they cannot understand why.

Yeah the whole Sean Taylor spitting thing was a joke.

if you do not think what leinhart said was pathetic...totally disrespecting everything texas worked for ...then you have some issues about sports it was uncalled for and proves that he is nothing but a sore loser and better get used to it in the nfl

Leinhart spoke his opinion, like it or not. I wish alot more athletes done that.

well when someone generally spits on someone else you would see some spit fly out and there was non, pittman is a little bitch and was just upset because they were losing

Exactly YOU just lost the national championship, before you can even catch your breathe you have some reporter in your face. If it was me honestly I would have probally dropped an F bomb or two. How can you not be emotional after a game like that? He is only human.

its not like he had to honk a booger...he could have just peppered him and spitting is besides the point if i am not mistaking has he not been in trouble before

i would not hold it against him because i know it was a big game but he still should not have said it...and technically what everyone is saying that since leinhart can speak against texas than it was ok for owens to bash donovan because we all know how he just lost the biggest game in the world

that is just ludacris, "bashing" another team is one thing, but bashing your teammate is completely different.

Oh please--you're reaching for excuses to dog out Leinart here...it's obvious. He's free to have his opinion that they're a better team than Texas as a whole, even after the loss. Sometimes the better overall team doesn't always win. Sometimes the better team has some players have off nights and the team they lose to rises to the occasion and takes advantage...happens in sports all the time. How else would you explain upsets??? For example--let's look really recent--would you say that Marquette is a better overall team than UConn??? I wouldn't. But Marquette beat the crap out of them the other night. On that given night, UConn was USC and Steve Novak was Vince Young.

And in reply to the Sean Taylor thing...yeah--he was in trouble before b/c he was in the wrong place at the wrong time...a night club where some of his friends got in a skirmish and police say he resisted arrest b/c he said "I didn't do anything--they were fighting". He was cleared later. He has yet to have a trial for allegedly getting in a skirmish with two men and pulling a gun on them. He's already taken a polygraph, which showed he wasn't lying when he declared his innocence...but it is not admissible in court and the prosecution decided to go after a big fish and charged him anyway. ST is hardly an unsportsmanlike thug that you're wanting to paint him to be. Do some reading on it and go look at the film from this weekend's game before you toss around conclusions.

i could of swore that i saw on the bottom of the espn screen like a day before the game that texas was about 4 and 1/2 point favors

At the closest, USC was a -3 favorite for the game. it was as high as -6 leading up to the game. Texas was never favored.

USC was a 5.5 point favorite per pinnacle, mirage, and ceasars.

I would have to say that nearly 99% of the people who post on these forums were at one time athletes, or at least played on an athletic field in my case.

Do you remember how it felt when you walked off the field for the last time your Senior year? Like Leinhart, mine was in a loss. I remember how bad I felt. I remember to this DAY how bad that felt, and it's been 13 years for me. As a sophomore, we lost the State title by one point, in overtime. Now you combine both of those, and that's maybe 1/10 of what Leinhart was feeling. I remember walking off the field and there were no reporters, there were just fans, and they all supported us. We stayed on the field for 30-45 minutes, just taking pictures, and all that jazz. We didn't want it to end. But to have that time, that's supposed to be about your team and all that, it was great. Now the reporters waited until we left the lockerroom to talk to us, and I think they should have showed the same to Leinhart.

When I'm mad, frustrated, upset, and someone asks me what normally would be a simple question, I tend to go off. I don't blame Leinhart for what he did, but I think with him being on the brink of a pro career, he should have showed a little more class and said, "No comment."

Do I think it's that big of a deal? No. Do I think Leinhart could have done better? Yes. Do I think Leinhart is a crybaby? Yes.

Sean Taylor has a questionable past...But since when was it acceptable to throw a punch at a guy's head in football? Pittman should have been tossed as well.

Is it now ok to retaliate? Taylor may have been wrong, but was Pittman right in throwing a haymaker?

That's what bothers me today about sports, but more particularly about sports media.

Everytime they mention someone with a "shady past" or a troubled childhood, they have to say it. It's never just Sean Taylor. It's the much beleagured Sean Taylor, or a report on TO and how they bring up how in 3rd grade he threw rocks at a little girl.

I loved the commercials with Barkley about 10 years ago, saying he wasn't a role model, YOU as a parent should be.

I mean, when I go down the street, I call people by their name, I see a guy named Bob, I say, "Hey Bob!:" not, "Hey, it's Bob who cheated on his Addition test in first grade!"

Let's say he didn't--as the case IS--not as it may be. Just like someone else said...Pittman was upset b/c TB was losing. I'd say Taylor was probably doing his fair share of talking b/c he is cocky, but what DB in the NFL isn't??? This probably pissed off Pittman and then he reacted--and got smart by saying to the ref "he spit in my face". Remember--Pittman is the same guy who thought it was a smart idea to, when his wife and 2 kids were trying to leave b/c of a domestic dispute, got into his own car and ran it headlong into his wife's car containing their two kids. Sharpest tool in the shed I tell ya...

That's the point dude--you said nothing about Pittman who has a checkered past--automatically attacked ST, and ignored the punch Pittman threw, most likely in a 'roid rage fit.

A punch is a lot less sportsmanlike than a spit (if it occured, which I'm almost SURE it didn't). If that's what this thread is about--you only picked and chose who you wanted to call out and who you didn't want to call out.
