Local atheletes

Have any high school atheletes decided to play thier respective sports in college next year?

Baldwin from TV will probably play basketball. Whitney Compton from Haysi will probably play basketball somewhere. Ryan Jones from Haysi will probably play baseball somewhere. Marcum from Grundy will probably play football unless he goes to Tech.

Where are these kids looking to go?

Uva Wise?

He'll probably be a pitcher somewhere.

That's what I was thinking but I wasn't sure...maybe as a closer or setup

He is a very good pitcher but I don't see him pitching on the next level.

That's what I was thinking to honestly...he can throw a pretty good fastball but his other pitches are lacking a bit

Herbie...that's all I've heard a lot of colleges talk to him about. There's been some that have wanted him to both play a position and be on the pitching staff, but most college teams don't do that anymore.

I would bet Maxwell from TV will go to Wise. Baldwin may go there or ETSU or E&H. Compton may go to E&H.

Well I'm not knocking his pitching ability but I don't think he is as good as some I've seen in my past years. By that I mean overall pitching but he is good with a glove and can hit very well I just see him playing 3rd and possibly 1st on the next level.

That sounds more realistic...not taking anything away from Jones or anything but you have to dominate around these parts

That's cool Herbie--I'm just going off of what my fam told me that he's been talked to about.

There's also been some schools say they wouldn't mind letting him play both football and baseball on the next level.

I really could see him doing that...he's a very good athlete

I could see him playing some Linebacker at a small college but I could see him doing very well in baseball. If I was him which I'm not I would stick with baseball because he can perform on a higher level.

what about Lorenzo Miles?

Zo is an excellent High School athlete and I'm not dissing that or anything but I doubt he can play at the next level. Maybe some DB at Wise and PR/KR. I hope he proves me wrong. He reminds me of a Justin Campbell type. Great athlete and all but I'm not sure about the next level.

I think he can perform at the next level as like an ATH. Stick to DB, play return, and maybe some offense here and there

Zo is going to Tusculum for football. he said hed want to be a db for them but hed play whever they put him

Ive heard from the locals that Zo is headed to Tusculum to play football and Jordan Thacker is going to uva wise to play football. I dont know how true that is, but living in norton, thats what Ive been told by numerous people.

What would jordan play at UVA Wise, DB or what?

btw Herbie, what gave you the impression that Maxwell would go to UVa-Wise?

I would say strong safety or outside linebacker. Depends on his range and lack of ideal size though.

Last night at the Twin Valley/Grundy game, the head coach for Concord University out of West Virginia was in the stands checking out some of the Twin Valley players. That was interesting!!

yeah i've heard he is going to tusculum also. But i think he will go to UVA Wise

Someone told me that Chad Lane was going to UVa Wise to play football also..

id get some new sources...too many people in her corner who are saying no to UVa-Wise...actually wise probably 4th or 5th on her list

i dont think jordan is going to college for athletics, his mom said he was wanting to go to tech for academics.

Why would anyone go to VT for athletics. I would go to UVA for Athletics but I would say UVA Wise is just as good in academics.

tech has been in the top 10 in football the past few years, basketball team is getting better each year, and they have a respectible baseball program.

uva wise is a good academic school, but ppl have alot harder time getting into virginia tech then uva wise.
