Which university????
has put out the most quality players at a certain position? Im talking about success that they had in the NFL. Like for example say: Miami has put out the best running backs per Clinton Portis, Edge, McGahee and so on ... So I guess I'm saying which college represents each position?
-
Re: Which university????
Boston College or Nebraska with the OLine
Quarterbacks come from different schools each year
FSU, PSU and Ohio St have all done well with LB's
Tech has had some recent succes with defensive backs
-
Re: Which university????
Michigan puts out lot's of Offensive lineman
-
Re: Which university????
you already botched it vt, BC is not even top 10 and Nebraska really has never produced any good ones other than Dave Remington and Will Shields.
USC has had Munoz, Don Mosbar, Tony Boselli, Bruce Matthews, and then you throw in Justice, Latui, and Matua from this years team as well which makes a great group.
Ohio State had Korey Stringer, Jim Lachey, and Orlando Pace.
Michigan has put out Dierdorf, Hutchinson, Skrepenak, and Jumbo Elliot
But if I were picking one group of players that were all great I would pick Pitt's group of Mark May, Reuben Brown, Bill Fralic, Mark Stepnoski, and Jimbo Covert.

well hot dang mega...i wasnt goin with players who are bout dead and gone

Re: Which university????
Running backs:
USC is the best with OJ, Bush, Lendale White, Anthony Davis, Charles White, and Marcus Allen.
Miami would be second with Edge, Ottis Anderson, Chuck Forman, McGahee, Portis, and Frank Gore.
3rd for me would be Auburn with Bo, Caddy, Ronnie Brown, Stephen Davis, James Brooks, and Rudi Johnson
4th Texas with Ricky, Cedric, Priest, and Earl Campbell
Wide Recievers:
#1 Michigan State with Rison, Muhammad, Derrick Mason, Burress, and Charles Rogers
#2 Miami Irvin, Blades, Perriman, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne and Eddie Brown
#3 USC Lynn Swann, Keyshawn, Mike Williams, Kerry Colbert
#4 Ohio State with Santonio Holmes, Cris Carter, David Boston, Terry Glenn, Joey Galloway
Quarterbacks
#1 Miami Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, Vinny Testaverde, Steve Walsh.
#2 BYU Steve Young, Jim McMahon.
#3 Notre Dame Joe Montanna, Steve Beurlein, Joe Theisman.
#4 Washington Warren Moon, Chris Chandler, Mark Brunell.
Tight Ends
#1A and #1B
Miami Franks, Shockey, Winslow, Olsen, Everett
Georgia Watson, McMichael, Pope, Jermaine Wiggins, and Clarence Kay

thats before i was born dude

Re: Which university????
Im talking about what the guys did when they were in the NFL ... not college ... sure Bush and White will probably be great players but you cant count them because they aint done anything yet. And I personally would have Auburn and Texas ahead of Miami at the RB position for sure.

Re: Which university????
Man Im just 26 and I have seen 95% of that list play. You better start watching some espn classic man
I'll let you guys debate the defense, I cant remember all the other teams off the top of my head but
on Dline Miami has had Jerome Brown, Warren Sapp, Vince Wilfork, Cortez Kennedy, Russell Maryland, Jimmy Jones, and Ted Hendricks as pro bowlers or in Wilfork's case, future pro bowler.
Linebackers the canes put out were Ray Lewis, Nate Webster, Dan Morgan, Michael Barrow, Jessie Armstead, Darren Smith, Jon Vilma, and DJ Williams but Im sure there are plenty of other teams that have did better. I personally like Bruschi and Briggs with Arizona. Obviously Florida State with Marvin Jones, Derrick Brooks, Tommy Polley, etc are great too.
as for Corner I cant think of anyone better than Deion, Terrell Buckley, LeRoy Butler, and Antonio Cromartie
other than Phillip Buchanon, Ryan McNeil(led the nfl in interceptions), Duane Starks, and Antrel Rolle I think the U has been a little weak at corner.
Safeties: I have a #1A and #1B
Miami and USC Canes with Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Bennie Blades, Daryl Williams, and Tremain Mack
USC with Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith, and Darnell Bing.
Feel free to add to the list guys, I just named some off the top of my head.

Re: Which university????
I realize that but I just put a few guys like Bush on the list based upon star potential. You could take him off the list, but Im pretty sure he will be back on the list in about 6 months. I only had like 6 or 7 guys on there that are nfl rookies this year.

Re: Which university????
You left off Polamolu as a DB for USC, with the way his career is going, he alone might put USC ahead of Miami in the DB category.
-
Re: Which university????
you forgot to put UT up there on the WR's list- Willie Gault, Carl Pickens, Alvin Harper, Kelley Washington
-
Re: Which university????
add to those Cedric Wilson, Eric Parker, Peerless Price.
UT's put a great deal of dl's in the league as of late as well. Darwin Walker, Constantine Ritzman, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth. They've had quite a few db's too.
-
Re: Which university????
Tennessee has to be in the top 10.
Manning, Lewis, Wilson, Little, Whitten.
-
Re: Which university????
yep I forgot Troy, I knew I was missing someone.
Theres no way I would put UT on a wide reciever list, Willie Gault was the most overrated player ever and thats coming from a Bears fan.
-
Re: Which university????
If you're talking about overall players in the leauge, they're tied for second at the moment. I think FSU was 1 and UF and UT were tied at 2.

I don't really know how he would rank up, but I do know with Gault and Payton I could rule anybody on the original Tecmo Bowl!

Re: Which university????
i agree with UT receivers being overrated in the nfl, peerless price, willie gault, and how in the world can you mention kelly washington? yeah he owns almost every record at UT, but he is the bengals like 3rd or 4th man. The guy had 10 catches last year and a TD.
Most big time recievers come from sleeper schools imo...jerry rice went to mississippi valley state, T.O. was a 3rd rounder from Chattanoga, and randy moss went to Marshall (at that time was NCAA divison 2). Not to mention Steve Smith (Utah) and Rod Smith went to Missouri Southern State

[/ QUOTE ]
Why? If we are going by nfl production, Miami is better than both of them and beating on the door of USC.
Chuck Foreman 5950 Yards
Edgerrin James 9296 Yards
Ottis Anderson 10273 Yards
Clinton Portis 5930 Yards
Willis McGahee 2375 Yards
Frank Gore Rookie
Earl Campbell 9407 Not as many as Ottis Anderson
Ricky Williams 7097 lets not compare Ricky Pothead to Portis but if we did Portis averages 4.7 per carry to 4.0 for Ricky, Ricky has been in the league longer
Cedric Benson rookie
Priest Holmes 8053 Not as many as Edge
now for the Auburn stats
Bo 2782
James Brooks 7962 yards, great player
Stephen Davis 7875
Rudi Johnson 3936
Caddy rookie
Ronnie Brown rookie
Given that the canes have probably 3 hall of famers on their list and possibly 3-4 10000 yard rushers, they are easily at #2. By the time its said and done, they will probably have 2 with more yards than OJ or Marcus Allen.
I can respect Bo and Earl for getting hurt, but I dont respect Ricky and Cedric for being headcase losers.

Re: Which university????
I'm not taking up for KW in anyway, but he had a very serious injury last year and didn't play much. Probably wouldn't have made a difference. Also, the only record I know of him holding at UT is yards in a game. He tricked Stallworth (who was omitted from the above list) into leaving early. I wish he'd left and Stalworth had stayed.
-
Re: Which university????
didnt he have the most catches, and most yards in a game? the arkansas game where it was like 6 OTs? I was at that game.
i remember that year cause Clausen had no one to pass it to but him, and Whittn. But when you have a Clausen at qb the recievers are gonna have to be good.
-
Re: Which university????
When I think of UT, I think of DLine, no doubt about it.
That UT/Miami combo of Jerome Brown and Reggie White was the best I have ever seen at the pro level. Throw Clyde Simmons in and you have complete domination

you are right he shouldn't even be mentioned in the names above, I just wanted to mention somebody else with those guys and the other guy that came to mind was Peerless and after what happened this year, that wouldn't hold much water either. So... what college would you put up then????
-
Re: Which university????
I think it was the Bama game that you're thinking of that went into several overtimes. I know they had Whitten. I don't think they had KW. I think that was his senior year, but he was "injured". He did have the record for most yards in a game, like 215-230, I'm not sure about receptions though. I'll try to look that up.
-
Re: Which university????
Michigan has a long line of recievers, some were great, some were underrated, some were busts
Anthony Carter=Great
Toomer is pretty underrated throughout the years
Terrell-Bust
Edwards I believe will be a really good reciever
Marquise Walker Bust
Tai Streets-hes so so
Desmond Howard-so so career
Did you guys forget Stanley Morgan at UT, he might have been the very best of all of those guys.
-
Re: Which university????
MG, it was against LSU that KW had 256 yds on 11 catches. The 11 catches puts him tied with several others at 3rd for catches in a game. He's 4th in yardage for a season (1010), 4th in catches in a year (64).
So yds in a game is his only record.

Re: Which university????
[censored] fellas, I left Jim Burt off of my own list.

-
Re: Which university????
Nice list for NC State until you get to Koren: Torry Holt, Mike Quick, Haywood Jeffires, Koren Robinson
Mike Quick was the poopoo
-
Re: Which university????
FSU has produced some pretty good DB talent...
Samari Rolle, Terrell Buckley, and Primetime...
Some of the Youger guys, like Boulware (LB at FSU) and McFadden should have decent careers, also Cromartie has alot of potential as well as Sims (I bet he plays Safety in the League)
-
Re: Which university????
I forgot Samari, you forgot LeRoy Butler.
