You get out of this area, and in every restauarant you go to at lunch time, people will have a beer or 2 with there lunch. Not an uncommon thing at all.

Bill Clinton did not claim to be a morals kind of guy. What he did was wrong.

This administration has build its concepts on morals. That is why this is a shocker. Cheney had a beer...No big deal to some people. A lot of Republicans supports though see it totally different. I don't have to mention that group for anyone to know who they are.

To me and a lot of "those people" drinking is a sin. 1 beer is as bad as 100 beer. Again, this would not be a big deal if Bush and company hadn't basically won two elections on morals. I'm a practice what you preach kind of guy.

Im not totally 100% convinced that drinking a beer is a sin. You know a great deal more about the Bible than I do however so Im in no position to argue.

But if you ever manage to get out of Dickenson County in your life lpd06, you'll see that everything is not as sheltered and people can have a beer with their lunch without fear of someone saying they are a sinner and going to hell. To some people beer is just like drinking Ice Tea with their lunch. They are not drinking if for the "buzz", they just enjoy the taste.

I understand you greencrest, but I'm fairly sure drinking is a sin. Can I quote scripture...no. But, just like smoking or anything else, it is harmful to the body. The Bible talks about how your body is a temple.\

I'm no saint, but I am fairly set in my ways. You're right, some people drink beer like soda pop, but this is a secular world in which we live. The same one that promotes abortion, gays, greed, murder, living together without getting married, premarital sex, etc...

I do not know that much about the Bible and I do know lpd06 is right about your body being a temple, but what if a person looks at it like this and for this reason only: "I drink one beer a week for the SOLE purpose of flushing the fluids out of my kidneys and cleaning my system."

if they are drinking for the right reason, then would that constitute as good enough reason to drink. I mean, since you body is like a temple, you are only drinking that beer to try and help provide a healthier body for yourself. That person does not drink for the buzz, but yet one a week to help the body. great question. Things like that make me wonder a lot. I'm sure though that drinking to be drinking is wrong. A lot of people have a difficult time accepting that, but they have a lot of things they don't easily accept...

It's never easy to stand up for what's right.

It's more a thing I've been told of "desecrating" the temple. If you do something intentionally to hurt your body & endanger your health, you're desecrating the temple. If you drink a beer a day to keep the kidneys flowing, you're trying to add to the health so you can better use the temple, your body, to worship God. That's what I think.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but humans acknowldge situations through previous knowledge we have gained from many ways. The first thing most people think of when beer is mentioned is that the person drinking is wanting to get drunk or if they see someone out having a beer, they automatically think alcoholic or something to that affect.

If you are using the logic that beer is harmful to your body, which constitutes it being a sin, which I am not disagreeing with by any means, then shouldnt people quit drinking pop and eating Big Mac's, lord knows those things can be just as harmful to your health as anything else if not more harmful.

Anybody that has ever been bird hunting knows how dangersous it can be. If you are not alert at all times then it is extremely dangerous. Im not so sure how much attention and alertness a 78 year old man can have.

Drinking "beer" is not covered in the Bible, although some think "strong drink" referred to beer. Some would like to think that Jesus never drank wine. I don't buy that, anymore than I believe that He was only an average Joe.

If we use the logic that you shouldn't partake of a particular thing because it is harmful to your body (the Temple), then we will have to quit eating and drinking 98% of what we do now. Its all about excess. Drinking until you lose control, or to the point that you are easily influenced to do something that you normally wouldn't do is where the sin part comes in.

Folks like to quote Leviticus 10:8-10 when admonishing others to not drink. However, these instructions were given to priests who were about to enter the temple to perform religious rites. God wanted to make sure their faculties were completely about them. Nazarites were also instructed not to partake of wine...or even grapes! (Examples are Samuel, Samson, John the Baptist) They were a special, called-out servant of God chosen for a particular task. Some say Proverbs 20:1 seems to prohibit the use of wine or strong drink, but it is actually showing the personification of the end result of having too much...a drunkard. The 31st chapter actually recommends the use of wine or strong drink in certain situations. Isaiah decrees woe to the drunkard in chapter 5, (not the partaker). Again in chapter 28 he admonishes priests and judges who are too drunk to fulfill their duties. We are also warned against drunkeness in Luke, 1st Corinthians, and 1st Thessalonians.
Drinking really becomes a personal issue that you have to work out for yourself. I don't think the Bible forbids it...I think it warns us as to the dangers of overindulgence, something that is not pleasing to God whether it be food, drink, or material things.

Bottom line: If you think its wrong, don't do it! If you think there's nothing wrong with it, then don't offend someone who believes otherwise by partaking in front of them!

I really dont think having a beer or 2 with your meal is a bad thing, and when you get out of this area, it is very common. When you have a beer or 10 AS YOUR MEAL, thats when you run into trouble.

I think I agree with you ut, it is pretty much a personal thing. If you want to drink a beer, I have absolutely no problem with it, but when people want to drink a case of beer and raise hell and attempt to get on the road, thats when it becomes a major issue with me.

Thing about wine back then was that it was fermented to keep it from "spoiling". Fermented wine was used for many reasons back then, a preservative, antiseptic, everyday drink, etc...it wasn't used for the sole purpose of intoxication as it is today for the most part.

He should have been tested for his alcohol level, and then if any shows he should be tried the same way. Any fool knows guns and drinking don't mix. But the saints go marching in....

The thing about it is when there is an automobile accident and alcohol is involved,9 times out of 10, the alcohol is the cause of the accident. In this case however alcohol was not the cause of the accident as best I can tell. I dont think 1 or 2 beers could possibly cause someone to be so incoherent that they would shoot somebody.

When you go bird hunting with mulitple people, each person has to keep a certain position and every person must know where every other person is at all times because you never know what direction you will be shooting in. My guess is either Cheny or the man that was shot was out of postion or was not aware that they were in the line of fire.
