Seeking past Region D tourney info

I'm trying to compile a boy's basketball Region D tourney history. How far back depends on the info I get.

What I have thus far.

1992 - Twin Springs, Kelly, Haysi (finals TS vs Haysi) Played at Clintwood
1993 - Twin Springs, Garden, Hurley, Appy (finals TS vs Hurley) Played at TS
1994 - TS, Honaker, Council (finals TS vs Honaker) Played at Clinchco
1995 - TS, Haysi, Coeburn, Norton, Thomas Walker, Council (finals TS vs Council) played at Norton
1996 - TS, Council (played at Thomas Walker)
1997 - TS, Castlewood, Norton, Garden (I think), Powell Valley (I think) (Norton/PV finals?) played at Hurley
1998 - nothing (played at Clintwood?)
1999 - TS, Pound, Clintwood (Pound/Clintwood final?) (played at Castlewood?)
2000 - nothing (played at Clinchco?)
2001 - TS, Council, Haysi (Council won tourney) (Clintwood?)
2002 - TS, Gate City, Honaker, Castlewood, Norton, Council (Council/Honaker final) Played at Castlewood?
2003 - Council, TS, GC, Honaker (GC/Honaker final)
2004 - Gate City, Council, Norton, TS (TS/Council final) Played at Castlewood
2005 - Gate City, Twin Valley, Haysi, Pound, Castlewood, TS (TS/GC final) played at Clintwood
2006 - GC, TS, TV, Coeburn, Castlewood, Haysi

I need pairings, scores, etc. I would like to go back as far as 1980 if possible.

in 2000, it was Pound and Council, Wise and Haysi, and Council won

norton beat tv on a last second shot a cpl years ago. 2003 maybe?

97 was Haysi vs Burton in the finals
Burton beat Garden then TS
Powell Valley beat Castlewood then lost to Haysi
Haysi beat Burton

87 was Burton, Garden, Pennington, Kelly, ???,??? Burton beat Kelly in the finals
88 was Burton, Kelly, Garden, ..... at Appalachia Kelly beat Burton in the finals
89 was Haysi, Burton, Kelly, Ervinton, Thomas Walker, and ... at Clincho. Burton beat Haysi in the finals

ask Big Game James, he can shed alot of light on these, he played at Haysi during this era.

This was RC's last regional appearance. They lost to Hurley (I thought it was Haysi, but I guess Hurley since it was a BDD team and not a green one). RC faced them in the first round, and was defeated.

Looking at your list, you can pencil in Castlewood with Twin Springs every year for the CD schools, since they joined in 96-97. The only exception would be 99, or 00 when SP knocked TS out of the district tourny, and CW won the regular season title. I believe that was 00.

St Paul made it in the 97-98 season. Powell Valley beat them by a good 75 points. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

Ok. I knew it was one year I was in school or right after. I thought it was 98-99 season when I was a senior, along with Julius.

yeah the finals was haysi vs pv. Kory Bostic took the game over, nobody from haysi could make a shot, then julius had a shot at the buzzer to win it, it rolled around the rim and out. He ripped off his jersey lol.

I remember PV making it to the quarters that year. I had watched, I believe that same year, one of the best high school games I have seen betweent PV and GC. It was at PV early in the season, and of course earlier for PV due to the state finals. It went to 3 OT's if I am not mistaken, with McCoy hitting a shot at half court to send it to the last OT. Then GC finally spread things out in that OT to win it.

1998 - nothing (played at Clintwood?)
Pound, Powell Valley, Haysi, PV and Haysi in the finals, Haysi winning
1999 - TS, Pound, Clintwood (Pound/Clintwood final?) (played at Castlewood?)
Pound won, Council, Honaker, Castlewood

This regional field actually took place in '90 rather than '89 in Clinchco. The other team not mentioned was Garden. The '89 tourney was at Appalachia.

The '91 tourney was at Garden H.S. with St. Paul, Rye Cove, Honaker, Haysi, Kelly and Burton. Haysi beat Rye Cove in the finals.

Thanks for that BGJ. I had just tried posting to check out which year exactly RC was defeated in the regional finals, but the computer locked up on here, and I didn't know the post had not gone through.

RC went on to get creamed by Cumberland at state that year. I think the score was like 60-9 at halftime. RC wasn't too bad either with Jason Bishop, Tony Love, and Danny Walker.

Wise lost in the state finals that year, didn't they?

How bad did jj kelly beat ts in 77.. i didnt know ts made it that year..Was that when Steve Niece played?

Kelly beat TS by about 25-30 points that year. Dave Bentley was the coach at Twin Springs, and Jim Goforth the coach at Kelly.

Kelly beat Parry McClure in 5 overtimes in the semi-finals and lost to Madison County in the finals.

Yes, Steve Niece played on that team.

I believe I can help with some of the info. I know PV went in 83, 85, 86, and 87. They won in 83 and lost in the finals in both 86 and 87. Jonesville (Winston Terry)beat Haysi in 85; Pound (Mike Greear last second shot)beat PV in 86; Hurley (Keith Justus last second shot in 3 OT) beat PV in 87.
