Is Gate City's baseball team using Hunter Wright again this season?
I'm pretty sure that they are.
Actually, they will be using Camden Yards. That will also be the site of the LPD tournament.
Yes, it is my understanding they will use Hunter Wright this year.
I talked to someone on Sunday about that and they thought the same as you.
I didnt figure Humphrey's would still be shellin out the cash for them to play at Hunter Wright since his boys graduated.
Are you sure he was the one?
What happened to GC's baseball field? Flood?
Not that I am complaining though. I love Hunter-Wright Stadium. I was just wondering if GC will ever be able to play on their own field in the near future.
Nothing is wrong now. The Sr League uses it. GC practices on it. I guess they just ride the money wagon as long as the wagon gives money. At start of their use of Hunter it was because of flood waters but that was about four years ago.
Were they playing at the old Little League field? I was told they had made a lot of improvements there over the last couple years?
The old SR. League field/high field. They have done wonders to the Little League. They also have a girls softball field just beyond the Sr. League field.
Im not 100%, but that it is what I have heard many times. I would think he would be the only one with the financial means to pay thousands per ballgame played there.
How about the Coach's father-in-law? Not saying that he does but he sure could if he wanted to. He is in the coal business as well as other business.
Good possibility.
They didn't pay "thousands" each time they played there. They paid the city of Kingsport $50.00 per hour to use the facility, and had no maintenance responsilities.
From the way I understood it was in the thousands. Running those lights alone is very expensive, maintence Im sure is outrageous. Im not claiming to know the facts but Im willing to bet that it was quite a bit more than $200 a ball game. Im sure the average ballgame lasts not more than 4 hours.
That information came directly from Doug Humphries.
10-4. So is he still the one paying for it?
Don't know about that. He told me the price that the city charged them a couple of years ago, but he didn't say he was the one paying it at that time.
so are they going to be playing at hunter wright or not?
hunter wright seems a little much for lpd baseball, has anyone even ever hit a homerun there during a game?
Drew Tucker from Pound hit the wall last year.. and that Steele guy from Gate City hit one..
pretty sure luke humphreys hit one...i think nate and jason steel both hit one or a couple...i know longworth hit one...i think some kid from appy hit one
Glad this hasn't turned into a why are they playing in TN forum. If I were playing i would be thrilled to get an opportunity to play on a field like this. Most high school kids will never have the opportunity to play past the high school level. This is a chance to play in a stadium that is this caliber.
I hope they do play on it..
That is a good ball park to watch a game..
