KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Randolph Morris scored 22 points and Rajon Rondo added 16 and Kentucky held on to beat No. 11 Tennessee 80-78 on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats (19-10, 9-6 Southeastern Conference) avenged the Volunteers' win in Lexington last month that snapped an eight-game losing streak in the series. This was more like what Kentucky is accustomed to against Tennessee and prevented the Vols' first season sweep since 1998-99.

The Wildcats, still battling Florida for the East's No. 2 seed for the SEC tournament, shuffled the lineup since the teams' last meeting. Morris scored 20 points in Tennessee's 75-67 win in Rupp Arena, but Rondo was driving to the basket this time and the Vols had trouble stopping that new dimension.

The Vols (20-6, 11-4) looked like they were headed for a dramatic ending to their home season under first-year coach Bruce Pearl.

Tennessee had already wrapped up the East title, but the Wildcats spoiled senior night and a special T-shirt promotion for fans that created a human orange-and-white checkerboard in the stands.

Tennessee was ahead by as many as 14 points in the first half, but Kentucky clamped down in the second half and took the lead for the first time after halftime on Brandon Stockton's 3 with 15:19 remaining. The Wildcats pushed it to as many as six points.

Tennessee tied it at 73 on two free throws by C.J. Watson with 4:55 left, but the Vols couldn't get any closer.

Kentucky increased the lead to 80-76 on Rondo's driving layup with 2:16 left, and Tennessee's Dane Bradshaw scored on a putback for the last points. The final 1:46 was frantic.

Watson had a 3 that rimmed out. JaJuan Smith had a chance to tie it after Rondo grabbed his jersey on a steal, but Smith missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

The Vols had possession with 19 seconds remaining, but Smith lost control of the ball when he fell. Nearly 11 seconds came off the clock during a scramble on the floor, and Joe Crawford came up with the ball.

He was fouled intentionally but missed the first free throw with 8.1 seconds left. Watson missed a 3 at the buzzer.

Crawford finished with 11 points for the Wildcats, who outshot the Vols at the foul line 13-of-19 to 5-of-10.

Watson, Smith and Chris Lofton each scored 15 points for Tennessee while Major Wingate added 10

Team game notes

Kentucky shot a season-high 60.4 percent (29-of-48) overall, the highest mark by the Wildcats since a 61.5 percent showing against Utah in last year's NCAA Tournament. UK is 104-2 under Tubby Smith when shooting 50 percent or better.
UK was 9-of-19 (47 percent) from the three-point range to secure the victory.
UK outrebounded Tennessee, 33-25. The Cats are 14-5 when outrebounding their opponent.
The Wildcats trailed by as many as 14 at 21-7 in the first half, but shot 78.9 percent in the second half to earn the victory. The Cats were 15-of-19 from the floor in the game's final 20 minutes.
UK had 19 assists and 19 turnovers in the game. The turnovers were the most since tallying a season-high 26 at Vanderbilt on Feb. 11.
The Cats held Tennessee to 49.2% shooting after allowing the Vols to shoot 64.7 percent in last month's meeting in Lexington. UK is 18-5 when holding its opponents below 50 percent.
Kentucky trailed, 45-38, at halftime, but came out firing in the second half. A 7-0 run tied the score at 45 with 17:46 remaining in the game.

Individual game notes

Randolph Morris scored a season-high 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting. He was 6-of-10 from the charity stripe and added nine rebounds.
Rajon Rondo had an explosive second half for the Wildcats, scoring 12 of his 16 points. He had eight assists in 22 minutes.
Joe Crawford had 11 points in 20 minutes.
Brandon Stockton, a starter in the five games, had a key steal with 10 seconds remaining to help UK earn the win.

I loved it!! A great game to watch, but I figured UT would make the 3 at the end to win it. Glad they didn't.

Asleep after watching it or the drive back? I don't know how much smack I would talk about the UT fans on that game, UK shoots there best of the year and squeaked by.

Friend of mine went to the game, he's a huge UK fan and he said that he couldn't figure out why Lofton wasn't on the court more.

UT is overrated. I said it all year, and when they exit early from the tourney...I'll say it again.

I don't know if overrated is accurate. I mean they came out of nowhere, it wasn't like everybody was predicting them to be great. They have played extremely well most of the season with a less talented team than several, due to the execution and the system. In my view, its hard to be overrated when you weren't even ranked. You might be a bit of an illusion or something, shoot the fact that you can mention the tourney and them is a statement for them, not against.

Kentucky is not a good team.

UT is not necessiarly overrated, because if their shots are falling, they are tough to beat.

Oh now, Kentucky is a good team, not a great team, not world beaters, but there is still plenty of talent there. Kentucky has some weaknesses this year that are a lot more visible than previous years, but they have also had some pretty good performances, they just are lacking big time on consistent performers.

Overrated all year? They weren't picked to do anything. If anyone is overrated it might be Florida or UK. I believe UT finished ahead of both. Before the season no one thought they would make the NCAA. They are one big man short of being a great team.

They are not a top 12 team, IMO. We'll see come tourney time.

UT would wipe the floor with UNC.

I hate UT as much as the next cat, but I can admit when they have a team with some talent.

They have the forumla to beat good teams.
They can shoot, and they can play D.
But, when the shots arent falling, they can be beaten fairly easily.

UT has over achieved. they are not overrated

UT has over achieved so much this year. They are 20-6 (11-4), and at the beginning of the season no one would have expected this good of the season. The sec is also doing good this year, as a conference. Chris Lofton has broke Tennessee's records for 3's in one season. Bruce Pearl is up for National Coach of the Year. How is any of this overrated?
