Coeburn Tourny AAU

Some observations. Recent tournament at Coeburn had Coeburn's BB Coach's son not playing for either of the 2 Coeburn teams but for another team made up of "the best" players from Gate City, Powell Valley and Norton in the 8th and 9th grade games. What does that tell the other players from Coeburn and the Coeburn fans? Is the coache's son too good to play for Coeburn or are the other Coeburn players not good enough to be on the same team as the coache's son? Looks like the Coeburn coach places his son above the other players. Maybe he should go to PV or GC and get a job there so his son could play on a "good team"

There is a sign before one gets to Coeburn stating some like this "Home of the friendlyest poeple on earth" Whoever wrote that has never played a baseball game or basketball game against Coeburn. They have some of the rudest fans I have ever been around.

Whats the big deal? Maybe he is playing with a traveling team made up of kids from those teams. Plus that gave the other Coeburn basketball players more playing time, and an opportunity to better themselves instead of watching Adkins have to do most everything. Its not like they won't be playing a ton together in the future, and probably have in the past also.

Maybe the AAU team the "coaches son" played on has been committed to this AAU team since December....and we are playing in other tournaments other than this one.. and not one Coeburn person asked him to play on the Coeburn team.. Just a few thoughts..

well Coeburn had two teams in this tourney and one had 5 players on it for one game, I think if "coache's son" had been on that he may have been able to "play some ball"

ive got a crazy idea...let's say a group of guys gets together and forms a team...for the sake of this argument we'll call it an "AAU team"...now this "team" will play in a bunch of tournaments together and try to make it to the state tournament...so ya kinda want the best players on that team to give you the best shot...if only there was a kid from coeburn who was one of the best players in the district who could play with this team.....hmmmmm [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]

He is probably playing with them to get better, because i'm sure they'll play better competition. Therefore, it may help COEBURN in Basketball!

Andrew Pate from coebrun plays on that AAU team too....nothing to say about him though???

What UTFAN doesnt seem to understand is that adkins, along with all great players, does what ever it takes to improve themselves. Oftentimes, that means playing with people that will make you better and not bring you down. I would just love to see you get out there and do what adkins does day in and day out! I think that UTFAN needs to worry more about his spelling more than whom Adkins plays bball with.

PV would be more than happy to take Adkins and Adkins, come on down to the valley.

yeah IMO Adkins and Pinkston would be the best backcourt in the district next year, hands down.

We were at Coeburn this weekend
March 11-18 is Little Caesar's Classic in Elizabethton, TN
March 24-26 is Hilltopper Pride in Johnson City, TN
March 31-April 2 is the Early bird Classic in Chattanooga,TN
then the State Tournaments Start

You couldn't have had much competition this weekend.

Clintwood team finished 2nd to them

Cantrell from PHS was not there this weekend

And they did it well. If this team has been together since Dec. well......our team has been together 1 week....so all in all..not bad. Proud of the boys!

He didn't play today, if he is on the team. It really doesn't matter.

Seriously, it's understandable that AA's skills are far superior to yours, and it eats at your insides

I have never heard of an AAU team that was made up entirely of kids from one small town (ie. Coeburn, Clintwood, PV, GC, etc.) that was any good since they are going up against teams that are made up of multiple town talent like the one they have put together, more like a district all-star team. I don't believe AAU has any rule about where the players on a team are from as long as there is a team and someone pays the bills. Maybe someone should have asked Adkins to play on one of Coeburn's teams. They sound more like they were made up to fill the tournament and get some practice in for the ones that aren't good enough to be on the district team.

i don't see the point in kids devoting this much time to basketball. kids need a break. i don't think anyone around here has enough talent to obtain a scholarship to an ACC school. you guys need to stick to football or baseball.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to go to the state tourny due to a varsity baseball tournament the same weekend, that ended up being rained out. We lost the first two state games by 2 and 6 I believe as I was on my way to Roanoke for the second game.

I think some people are just jealous. Adkins is a good ball-player and he wasn't born with that talent. He worked hard and got to where he is now. That is what it takes to be good at anything. Never put the ball in the closet. I was asked to play for this team by Doug Cambell and I didn't play because I was told they would be traveling every weekend to places like NC and West Va. Had i known they would be playing around here i would have played for this team in a heart-beat. Playing and practing against better competiton than you, makes you better. I don't blame Adkins one bit for his decision. If you want your name to be mentioned on here, work hard at your respected sport and show people during your season.

Andrew said that he would have played for one of the coeburn teams but as he stated "no one asked him." The one that ran the tournament and decided to put 2 coeburn teams in it was a last minute decision and the way he was gonna do it he wasnt gonna put the best players on one team so Coeburn might've won it he was gonna split everyone equal and just send em to play without any practice....the 2 coeburn teams practiced 2 days before the tourny and thats it....And rumors going around coeburn is that people is mad at him and his dad.....There is no reason on earth to be mad at them...if it was me, I would have made the same decision as Drew did even though there wasnt a decision to be made considering "He wasnt asked"

I played AAU at Castlewood for a year. Then when we started our team, we had girls from RC, TW, Lee High, maybe one from GC.

There was another team with RC players at the time also, but they were just a tourny team and not planning on going to the AAU tournament.

AA, you can head to RC. You and A.Hood and the rest of the boys can tear it up. I'll be your official recruiter. hahaha.
