LPD Boys All District

Gate City coach Scott Vermillion was named Lonesome Pine District Coach of the Year and Josh Kilgore, Jamie Hackney and Tihlee Anderson each were chosen to the All-LPD boys' basketball team, selected the by the coaches.

Vermillion led his team to an unbeaten conference record (14-0) and the LPD tournament title. The Blue Devils lost to Twin Springs in the Region D semifinals in three overtimes and finished 20-5.

Kilgore, a senior, suffered a knee injury that kept him out of post-season play. Hackney is a sophomore and Anderson a freshman and return next season, along with several other members of this year's team.

Sophomore Cody Salyers also made the team as an honorable mention.

J.I. Burton's Lorenzo Miles will selected as the Player of the Year.

Lorenzo Miles player of the year? Huh I would of thought that mabye one of the gc kids would get it or mabye one of coburns post guys don't get me wrong Lorenzos a great athlete but I just dont see player of the year.

A GC guy doesnt have to win every award in every sport.

Congratulations to Evan, Devon, and Filip from JJK

I think you have to look at Norton's team and see how they would have been without ZO. Sure he doesn't look or play like a typical basketball player but without him they would have been very mediocre. He could change the outcome of a game with his own hands and excellent speed. Terrific athletic ability. I think they coaches made a good choice.

In all truth, congratulations all around. Not to bad of a selection I guess, even though I would have liked a Clintwood player to have made it. Maybe next year we can get a few.

Pinkston's shot is more fundamentally sound than Miles', plays tougher D.

He can get to the basket like Miles.

Just because they aren't white, and don't play the GC way, you assume they aren't as good.

When in reality, Malcom, who is a freshman, will go on to score 1000 points likely, and be better than anyone on GC's team this year, with the exception of Hackney, MAYBE.

his problem with Pinkston is that he doesn't play for GC, nobody other than GC players are worthy for the all LPD award or player of year. 2 from gc deserved first team kilgore and hackney...parks and tihlee shouldve been honrable mention...adkins from coeburn deserved it...others from other teams deserved it

Lorenzo miles was quick and was burtons best player but courburn was the same without there low post guys. And Pinkston was crazy in the game at pv against us.

Im guessing you've forgotten the thread ealier about speculation on player of the year.

I just dont understand how someone who professes to have a wealth of basketball knowledge, can doubt Pinkston's talent.

i see potential...just not present talent...he, like miles, is a great athlete who will do a lot of things in football...he is just not on the first team level just yet

that doesnt mean i dont think he'll get there i am judging by what i saw this year on whether or not he is one of the top 12 players in the district (why we have 12 players on the first team is beyond me but thats a different point)...i didnt think he was this year...thats my opinion and ill stick by it

i only wonder why cedric wasnt on the list...did he not play much this year b/c he quit or what...he was better than malcolm

I agree, very very very inconsistant player. BTW does anyone no if Lorenzo is playing football anywhere?
