They have that on the Southwest Virginia Hunting and Fishing Board.
I am a big fan of catch and release but if I EVER caught anything that size it would be on my wall somewhere LOL
One report indicated that this fish had been caught by two other people. They indicated that certain markings and colorings in the pictures from the previous catch and release. The best thing to do is take pictures and measurements and have a replica made of the fish. That way you can release the fish.

That was in the article I linked with the pic. One of the guys that caught it before was a friend of the guy who caught it this time and was with him. The guy in the pic isn't the one who caught it he said he was afraid he would drop it so he made this guy hold it.
I read that article yesterday. I wish they had taken all the measurements and everything so that it can be listed as a world record. I keep expecting to see the smallmouth record broken. I believe that the current record is 11#'s plus and came from Dale Hollow Lake in the 1950's.
fish isnt as big as you would like to think, and i think this is more like the fish that the lady caught before. NO HUMAN alive is not going to take measurements of a potential world record largemouth. Its worth more than they could make in their entire life. The fact the man is holding the fish out from his body says a lot, that fish could be a normal 16-17 pounder and just look big.
If it is 25#'s, it is a big fish. Thanks for the info. So you think that a 16 0r 17 pound largemouth bass is normal?
yeah for these fraud pictures it is, i should have cleared that up. This will end up being just like that "monster rattlesnake picture" or the one of the woman holding the beast bass about 3 feet out from her body to make it look huge. Im telling you, nobody is going to release a bass big enough or even CLOSE to being big enough to be a world record. Just the opportunity to turn your life around with it. Like i said that fish would be worth more than what you could make in your entire life unless you are a celebrity in the first place. haha
That thing is 20-22 lbs. easy. Look at the belly. Full of eggs.
This was so big, we thought we were going to break its neck," Weakley said. "But we were confident in the scale. It is without a doubt the world record, so we let it go."
thats the biggest crock of oeyaoieh statement i have ever heard in my life. it is without a doubt the world record, so we let it go........... dang people come on. And like titan guy said, if the fish was on the nest like the men said that it was, then it wouldnt matter anyway the fish would be laughed at during its application.
here is what was said about the lady's bass, i cant find a picture of it.
http://www.roanoke.com/roatimes/news/story159770.html nevermind found it.

Virginia's record is 16.4 lbs in '85. The state of Texas over a 25 year period only have fifty bass between 15.2 lbs and 18.18 lbs. Mississippi record is 18.15 in '92. NC record is 15.14 pounds.

Why would it be laughed at? Eggs or no eggs, if it weighs more than 22 lbs 4 oz, then it is a new world record.
And just going by the photo, that thing weighs more than 23 lbs.

Fish just aren't going to get that big in those states. If the largemouth record is going to be broken, the fish will come from California. Those bass in those big mountain lakes live on trout.
I know that. My point was to the statement that it was "a normal 16 or 17 pound bass". I don't think 16 or 17 pound largemouth bass or normal. Just look at Texas and you only see fifty of that size in twenty-five years. Largemouth are a warmer water fish and smallmouth a colder water fish.

I wasn't really being contentious, just furthering your point.
No, 17 lb. fish aren't a normal thing. Look at the lakes around here. If you catch a 10 lb. bass, you're doing REALLY well.
go back and read what i said after that, for those types of pictures, where the bass is held out in front of the fisherman the bass are usually found out to have been only 16-17 pound bass. That is what i meant.

i must say though, this seems to be the most legit looking fish that has been brought up in a while. That thing is a monster. the gut is huge, the length is up there. Im not saying it isnt the real thing, I just cant see how somebody would turn it loose like that knowing what they have. The stories are always the same, hey we caught a world record BUT........ there are always things that dont add up.
It would not be considered to be the record even if they would have kept it. It was foul hooked.
that doesnt matter for some organizations. it could be recognized by one group and not by another.
The foul hooking is what they said made them let it go, they figured it wouldn't be recorded since it was foul hooked. But then they went on to tell that the language for foul hooking a fish vague as to wether or not it will be accepted, the rule says that it will be accepted if it done by accident during normal fishing. I am sure we have all foul hooked fish (I know I have) and didn't know it until we got it in and saw it, I know myself I don't go trying to foul hook a fish except for the time I was up at Wise last summer and the carp were running the bank like a school of trout and everyting else went into hiding. These fish were huge everyone I saw was at least 2 foot long and others went to 3 foot easy, but they won't hit anything except a little fuzzy cotton ball and who wants to catch them anyway the only place I found that really went after these things was in europe mostly british.
Your missing out not catching the "ol carp". They are fun to catch. The whole deal with foul hooking is that yes it is vague, but the magnitude that this fish is considered, you can bet that they would not consider this fish the record. It wouldn't be the first time this happened.

I guess that's why Tech was 0-2 with that 250lbs this year because size does matter
I've had one fish mounted...... ofcourse most ppl would have.
on my wall, I have an 11 and 1/2 lb Large mouth Bass.
That is a very good bass.
not really
it was just on PTI with video. real size not a trick with a camera and holding the fish out from the body

I caught one last summer that was about a 6 pounder I do have a pic but no measurements nor did I weigh it. And my pic is right up nest to me about 4 inches away and not held out to make it look bigger.
You are missing out on the carp. With the exception of sailfish, I have yet to encounter a fish that puts up such a fight.
I caught an 8.5 pounder in the Guest River last summer, took about 20 minutes to get it in.
Those carp up at Wise Reservoir are something else. I was up there in a canoe last summer, almost had one jump in the boat.
I know what you mean about the ones in wise they are huge as I descirbed earlier. They stay mostly up in the first arm straight from the boat launch from what I hear. That is where we saw the most, they were right up in the shallows near the bank and beating the water to a froth, the last time I saw them doing this was when I was real young down at Rogersville. My wife and I both were trying to foul hook one just to get to fight it in. I don't have any problem with catching them as long as they hit something I am bass fishing with. I got on the net and checked into fishing for them when we got home that night and found out that the best thing to catch them on is little cotton balls, they had some really wild looking rigs to catch them.
Although I haven't tried it, dough balls made from shredded wheat are supposed to be killer for the carp at Wise.
Larry Robbins caught a 45 or 46 pound carp up there a couple of years ago.
Imay have to try that next time I go up there.
That is one thing all fishermen should try atleast once in there life. I fish for them every spring and would have to say that it is one of the best times of the year. I have many out of the guest river, but am planning to go to the wise lake this year. Doughball's and corn is what I use depending on the water. In dingy water I like corn, clear water you can just use doughballs. There is also a carp bait that is strawberry flavpred, never tried it but may this year.
