Appy Coach?

Any word on if Appy is any closer to picking a coach? It is possable that the dission has already been made but the longer it drags on the more I wonder if the new head man may be someone from outside the Appy system.

i don't know if there's been an official announcement yet either.

Then I would hate to be Bobby Sanders expecting to get the job since he is a Charger from Oxford, Mississippi.

Has anyone else also heard that Sanders is the leading candidate for the job at Lee. Just curious he is reported to be the front runner for the Lee job.

interesting if that is true it could be why Appy has not anounced there new coach yet

With the situation when Bobby left Lee the last time before he came to Coeburn I can't imagine him giving up the Appy job to go back down there unless he is expecting ther to not be an Appy in the next few years and he wants something he preceives as more stable. I don't see anyone doing that great of a job at Lee the politics game down there is terrible and noone will be able to overcome it.

I am also hearing that he is the leading candidate at Lee, and I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a hire at Monday's board meeting.

I would hate to se Sanders go but IMHO Lee is on an upswing and are now the largest single A school in the state and regardless of how well he does at Appy he will never be "Tom" and it is tough following a legond

I think Lee will announce a hire on Monday. If they don't I'll be surprised and I do think it is his job if he wants it.

Yes Wolfe resigned at Lee at the March Board meeting, well he was given a choice resign or be fired.

I had heard that a couple of Gate City Assistants were going to apply for the Appy job. Can anyone confirm or deny that rumor?

I've heard rumors of a gate city coach applying for the job.....Coach Jones, to be more specific.

If this is true, and he doesnt get it....then We've got some major problems at appy. I've always thought he was the main reason for the success at PV, and now at Gate City.

I remember when I was in Kindergarten at PV and Coach Jones was my P.E. coach... wow, those were back in the good ol' days! [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] (If this is the same one we're talking about... big ol' guy, pretty muscular, bald, etc.)

He was definitely a pretty nice guy from what I remember.. I had no clue he had such an impact on the football coaching, however, as I'd never really payed attention to the coaches at the time.

Anyways, I hope he gets the job at Appy, because they need as much help as they can get after losing such a legend as Tom Turner.

If Barry Jones gets the job at Appy, one thing I know...the Dawgs will have a damm good defense. You can credit him with much of the success of PV's program during their heyday.

Barry Jones in addition to being a fine football coach is also one very fine man. It is a pleasure to know him. He would make a good coach for any team.

Yeah, Chubz, that's the same one. He's a great one. He can be red faced and mad as bull one minute and laughing and yucking it up a little later. My fondest memory of him was his crying when our senior bunch left the practice field the night before our final game. Great, great man. And yeah, his defenses helped PV win a lot their games while he was there. So he would be a BIG boost to Appy's D if he gets it.

Coach Jones is a true class act, an alum of Carson-Newman, super coach and one heck of a man...Appy will definitely stay strong with him at the helm.

I hear that Coach Sanders has officially accepted the Lee High Coaching position.

All i can say is it's time to do something. Before we reach the end of the school year.
We have spring and fall workouts to begin and still no head coach.
We need a top Dawg at the top to lead the Dawgs. Whether it be Travis, Bobby, Barry or who ever. All three would make good coaches.
Could you imagine the three on the same coaching staff.
Right now my concern is we have no coach. We need one before we break for the year.
Time to be realistic. If Bobby is gone. And Travis hasn't passed the test, as much as i would love to see him replace Tom.
Give it to the next best candidate and let's get keep the tradition and program going.
That is the bottom line.

I agree it could have been that Appy was waiting on Sanders to make a dission before going in a different direction. While I think Travis would be a great choise if he cant do it or does not want it then Appy needs to set a new head man befor summer it is never a good sign when your coach meets his team for the first time during two a days.

appy needs a coach big time...and i doubt sanders will coach because of his desire to go to lee high...

lee high may mess him over again though

Unless he finally met VA standards for the Praxis, he is not able to teach in VA. He has already used up his eligibilty for a provisional status I reckon.

Somone told me that as long as he taught at North Carolina for like 2 years..or somethin' like that?...that he didn't have to take any tests or anything...but that's only what I was told?=/

Heard Larry Smith could end up getting the job at Lee High. Someone at the School Board meeting last night did speak in favor of him getting the job and another was for Yeary. So far I've heard Calton, Yeary, Smith, and Sanders for Lee.

Saunders's brother is eligible to teach in Va. Each state has different criteria for the praxis. He is eligible to teach in any state. By the way they are quite opposite people but successful coaches. He has a very good job where he is in Charlotte, but from talking w/ him he would like to get back near Coach. I just hope for Appy they hire a good coach. Coach Saunders always liked Appy and that is where he goes to church I think. Good luck Dawgs

Well I am glad he finally got his Praxis certification. That was the reason he left Castlewood. Matthew is a super nice guy, but I don't know how great of a coach he was due to only a short time being around him at CW.
