Figures. I didnt think Dickenson County had a shot.
You read right. http://www.wcyb.com/newsread.asp?newsid=7056
IMHO that is great news (All of us DC resadends have to travel out of county to work anyway at lese it is close LOL)
ANy clue on when construction will start? I figure that will be a major project in itself
The 500-600 megawatt project would create 800 jobs during construction as well as 75 at the station and 250 mining jobs once the station is operating. It would also add significantly to local tax revenue and be a boost to the local economy "? all while providing clean, reliable and economic electricity for Virginia families and businesses.
I read that it would take about 3 years to get going.
I seen News Center 5 setup at Virginia City. Just outside St. Paul this afternoon.
So i'd say it's pretty reliable.
3 yrs of construction will mean for some good money here locally.
And the long time jobs and revenue a true plus.
Some folks did a good job of getting them to pick Wise Co. I heard this was a highly sought after project.
This is a major development. Huge for Wise County.
You got that right.
A big shot in the arm. Not just for WC but this whole region.
I'd say all the local counties will benefit some from it.
A good day all the way around for the local area.
You are right, but Wise County is going to receive all the major revenue though.
The revenue is a big thing, something that i have to say Wise County had needed for a long time.
But the early spin off will help alot, not just Wise County. Plus the addition of more mining jobs. To me this is a plus for all of the region.
For Wise County it is a big deal, due to the long lasting effect of long term and high paying jobs, and the revenue from the project.
Something that surprised me a little on news a minute ago was that they said it would not be producing any power until 2012. Thats a little surprising. I read that it would take 3 years just to construct the place.
this will be good.
I think bub the reason it's not scheduled to go online till 2012. Construction won't start for a 1 1/2 yrs from the time of annoucement.
A lot of paper work and other planning. This is just the first step in the process.
Didn't understand it myself at first.
But after looking at the scope of what all is required to install a power plant. It will take that long to get up and started.
I think the plant at Carbo took almost 3 years, if not longer. And they are continually working there. Have to meet a lot of ever changing requirements.
There is a lot of permits required, and a lot of request to be done.
And pre-construction work done before the real construction will begin.
So your looking at not starting, full construction, till almost 2008, and 3 yrs for construction, and almost a year for startup, which will put you almost to 2012.
I said preliminary because there is environmental studies and all that junk that have to be done first. This type of project takes a wee bit of time.
