Who will win the Region and advance to the state tourney.
look for one of the lpd teams to take it.
I look for Kelly to advance.
probably Kelly and Gate City if the brackets allow it
it seems like kelly is the hottest team around right now. i think they'll have their handful with honaker in the first game. with the exception of haysi and rye cove, the entire field in the tourney is young. just like basketball, this year's region tourney is going to be good. i'm going to stick with kelly and haysi to advance to state. kelly has the hardest route to move on though. honaker should be decent but the castlewood team could be a problem. they are playing on their home field. haysi has the best pitching around. jones is pretty good but he got roughed up by honaker last thursday. i'll see you all in castlewood this week. i'll have an OLD chicago cubs hat on. if you see me, introduce yourselves.
Does anyone know if the games are on any radio stations?
The last word I heard was that the GC-RC game was going to be broadcast on WGAT, but that was this past Saturday & haven't heard for sure since. You might want to check on the dial and see if that's the case in about 20 minutes or so.
Well, it isn't picking up so well here at work if they are carrying it.
If someone could post any updates, I would appreciate it.
Just got a call from a friend up in Castlewood, said that he didn't see WGAT there. I'm a bit miffed at this situation, two county schools facing off in a regional playoff game and no WGAT coverage?
Going into the bottom of the 3rd with the Devils coming to bat, GC leads 4-0 (was given to me 10-15 minutes ago on my way home via phone call).
At the end of the 3rd, Devils lead 6-0.
No suprise there
Maybe not a surprise to you, but a lot of people are giving GC's baseball team up for dead after Saturday's district tournament championship game.
Why should they? GC was LPD champs, and didn't throw their ace Saturday.

I'll tell you why they do, because that's what they want - that's the reason for it. True, they aren't as strong as in the past 2-3 previous seasons, but they have been surprisingly competitive - especially since they only returned one starter from last years team (Castle).
No matter what happens the rest of the way, I'd have to say it has been a successful season for them.
We are also very young.
When you have solid programs like JJK and GC, you just don't use youth as an excuse.
JJK has a very fine ballclub (even though they like GC are young) & well-coached as well. Their feeder program(s) success shows within their high school ranks, that's for sure. It wouldn't surprise me in the least bit to see them in Radford if they can keep playing like they have been here late in the season.
Good luck to both JJK's & GC's baseball teams the remainder of the season & may they represent the LPD well.
I can agree with that Reese. JJK sounds like they are pretty tough right now. With GC, anytime Castle takes the mound they will be tough to beat, but if a team puts the ball in play, it seems like you have a decent chance with GC's youth.
By the way, did Tihlee play baseball this year?

Didn't play baseball but has been involved in some AAU basketball where he did pretty well.
No, Tighlee (sp?) didn't play baseball this year.
GC threw their #4 in the district tournament championship game due to the VHSL restrictions of 10 innings pitched per player over the course of a week. Saturdays now start the first of the week as far as counting innings pitched, thus it would have not been good strategy to start your #1 or #2 for that matter with the regionals coming up just a few days later. Powell Valley's Jim Kelly had very good strategy last season for his Vikings and worked his team (using pitching selection) to a final four appearance along with Gate City. That's two LPD teams in the final four the past two years (GC & Kelly in '04, GC & PV in '05). Not sure that will be the case this season, but rest assured that if it isn't VirginiaPreps.com baseball messageboard will light up with every Region C idiot coming out of the woodwork as if they're kings of baseball within the Commonwealth.
At the end of the 4th inning, GC leads Rye Cove 16-0.
HAHA. Your right about VAPreps comment.
Weather delay in Castlewood (reported about 5-10 minutes ago), War Eagle coaching staff reported to be seen in the dugout attempting their best indian warrior rain dance.
Doesn't matter they would just pick it up from were they stopped it at. That is a difference in tournament play and regular season play.
you won't see Tihlee playin any baseball...it's strictly football and basketball for him
btw, he's gonna put up some crazy numbers in bball this coming year
I would say that was a pretty pathetic dance coming from a couple of them in that dugout.
That doesn't surprise me hokie. I thought he might give up baseball in HS to concentrate on the other two sports. Did he run track this year?
I know Coach Fields brother and if he's anything like him, he's a good fellow. No harm meant by the comment, just trying to add some light-hearted humor to a difficult situation.
They came out and finished out the game, final score 16-0. Congrats to Rye Cove on their season and wish them well in the future.
Cats, I know how the regionals are different than regular season play. It was an attempt at humor (as mentioned above) that maybe you didn't pick up on.
Anybody got a report on the JJK-Honaker game?
Yeah, they are good people. I just can't imagine the thought of him and a couple of others dancing around.
Good luck to the Devils against Haysi. It should be a good matchup with Viers, or Jones on the mound.
i subbed for coach fields...he is a nice guy
Any word on the Honaker/JJK game?
Kelly won 5-2.
wow, that was a late night last night. i got to castlewood after the second inning of the gate city/rye cove game. rye cove is the second best team in their district??? gate city's bats looked pretty good. i can't figure out why they would throw josh castle. hopefully they know what they're doing because haysi will be a tough one today. as for kelly, good game for the indians. honaker made too many baserunning mistakes and that ultimately cost them. kelly/castlewood should be a good one tonight.
Rye Cove didnt use there best pitcher (James) last night. Why? I dont have a clue. But when you dont go with what got you there in a win or go home situation, you dont even give yourself a chance to win. I really hate it for the Rye Cove seniors and players. My opinion. Their head coach let them down in the CD championship and last night also. Never take a knife to a gunfight.
