All the words...
To the Star-Spangled Banner....
Oh! say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
Oh! say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen thro' the mist of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep.
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream
'Tis the star-spangled banner. Oh! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation,
Blest with victory and peace, may the Heaven - rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, for our cause is just,
And this be our motto --"In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
May God Bless and Keep these United States of America!
A Very Happy Independence Day to All!
Maybe it is time to sing it all again.

Better watch out Spuds! One of those liberals who deny this great Nation was built by Christians will be knocking down your door! You know our motto can't be "In God we trust" I myself am thankful that the Almighty God raised up godly men to build this nation. IMO their faith is one reason this nation is still blessed as much as it is. May God continue to bless us and may it please Him to send true revival in this land through the powerful preaching of the Gospel of His Holy Son! Everybody will have to figure that for themselves, but if they get the urge, we can accomodate. MTV has ruined the world.

The sad thing is it doesn't take a rocket scientist to read the Founders comments and realize that most considered themselves christians and the ones who weren't were for the most part strongly influenced by christian thought. The only fault to be found are the people who sit around and let someone else tell them what to think and what to believe about history because they are naive or too lazy to find out for themselves. Sad.

Re: All the words...
I hate to admit this but, I was not aware of the final 2 verses. At least Roseanne Barr didn't sing the full version at that ball game.

Re: All the words...
our founding fathers were actually deists for the most part.
not all *liberal* deny our heritage, just believe that we're a country based on freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. and that freedom of religion means whatever religion or denomination you chose to follow and practice.
and fyi Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner, don't know if I would actually considering him a founding father either.

I will readily admit that Jefferson and Franklin were admitted deists (yet both were still strongly influenced by Christian thought) and Payne was an agnostic, but as far as most of the founders being deist I have to strongly disagree.
John Witherspoon, signer of the Declaration, was a minister, President of Princeton (founded by Prebyterians and every President until 1902 was a minister)and one of the foremost Theologians in America..
John Hancock wrote in 1775 as he signed a declaratrion for prayer and fasting "In circustances dark as these, it becomes us, as men and christians..."
As Alexander Hamilton was suffering from his gunshot wounds at the hands of Burr he said to the Epicopalian Bishop "I have a tender reliance on the mercy of the Almighty, through the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am a sinner. I look to Him for mercy."
John Jay, first Chief Justice and member of the 1st and 2nd Continental Congress was a devout Prebyterian wrote "Providence has given our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the priviledge of out Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers".
James Madison, Chief Architect of the Constitution, in opposing an established religion (which if you read the founders meant favoring one christian denomination over another)wrote "Because the policy of the bill is adverse to the diffusion of the light of Christianity. The first wish of those who ought to enjoy this precious gift, ought to be, that it is imparted to the whole race of mankind."
George Mason, richest man in VA and father of the Bill of Rights wrote much of his christian beliefs and in his will and testament wrote "My soul I resign to the Almighty Creator, whose tender mercies are over all His works...I willing and cheerfully submit, humbly hoping from His unbounded mercy and benevolence, through the merits of my blessed Saviour, a remission of my sins"
George Washington? A devout Episcopalian. Who went to church and fasted all day as the colonies considered their actions. And also ordered his slodiers to act as becomes christian soldiers. A prayer that is on a plaque in St Pauls Chapel written by Washington ends with pleas to Jesus Christ out Lord. On the tomb of Washington is engraved verses from John 11. There is probably more evidence of Washington being a christian than any other founder.

Re: All the words...
You beat me to the punch there GC1. Our LIBERATORS were, for the most part, disciples of Jesus Christ. You can see His teaching in the very founding principles and policies of our early nation.

Re: All the words...
All these folks had to good sense to know right from wrong. I wonder how many today would have the courage to break from the king of England. How many would follow blindly, Saying, "He is our King, he must be right."

Re: All the words...
Jefferson On his beliefs:
"They are the result of a life of inquiry and reflection, and very different from that anti-Christian system imputed to me by those who know nothing of my opinions."
"To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed opposed, but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian, in the only sense in which he wished anyone to be: sincerely attached to his doctrines in preference to all others..."
