local boy goes to allstar game
trey meade from clintwood will be competing at the MLB "pitch hit and run" competition at pittsburgh next week. he qualified by winning local, sectional and a team championship in baltimore, and by having one of the top four scores in the nation. He also will get to shag balls at the homerun derby. GOOD LUCK TREY! CONGRATS!!!
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
If nothing else, that should be a heck of an experience
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
He actually had the top score in his age group in the nation.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game

I agree if he has what it takes it doesn't matter if he plays in Clintwood or the tri-cities the scouts will find him. Just look at Jason Nixon from Coeburn and Chad Longworth from Wise. Although they didn't make it past the single a league they did have the scouts looking at them and at least went that far.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
Or Gobble from Battle (Not a big school either)
He is still just a kid (is Trey even a teenager yet) lot of growing still to go as good as he may be in one sport or another there is no need to start speclizing in just one sport (LOL besides I have high hopes for him as a QB for the Greenwave in a few more years )
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
The scout that found these guys is from Wise, lives in Kingsport now. He gives local players a good look.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
Wasn't Jerry Jordan from Coeburn a scout for the Phillies?
If memory serves, he's the man who got Calvin Talford in the farm system with the Phillies.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
Jerry's the one I'm referring to. He's from Wise, he used to be with the Phillies. He has been with the Indians for several years now.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
All I am saying is it is alot easier findin a good college team if he is from a bigger school. This is not like football, if he doesn't play in a league that is competitive he will never reach his potential.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
Should you really start worrying about your Major league career before you are even in HS? LOL Lets let the kids play ball because it is fun any not try to make it there job just yet.
Re: local boy goes to allstar game
And even then, its funny, everything you hear anymore is about the scouting on all levels has gotten so good, that they will find the diamonds in the rough (so to speak) no matter where they are. They were discussing this in the NBA draft (players that have played like 1 year of an organized sport), dealing in football with Arena, CFL, NFL Europe, etc.), and baseball (small colleges, even small high schools).
The going to big schools mentality can turn around and bite negatively just as much as positively, as I can recall more than one incident where a big fish went to another pond thinking they would get more attention by colleges, and instead they became a part to a bigger machine but was overlooked as being able to be an actual important part.
That being said, this is a small area, but if the talent is there, its amazing how they get found no problem.
