RIP Red Sox

As a longtime BoSox fan, I am officially declaring them dead. They do not look like the same team. There is no confidence, there is no fun with them. I think they have more overall skill than they have had in the past but they don't play lose or seem to be enjoying the game as much.

Maybe it will improve if they can hang on till Varitek comes back, losing their captain is a big confidence issue. Him and Wakefield are probably the two longest serving members of the team, and from all I read, big leadership guys.

I know there is still time but someones got to light a fire under their rumps.

We should have found an extra $20 million and gotten Soriano

Actually my hope is that they are having a Yankees-Tampa Bay thing going right now, and can overcome it.

They're definitely a team that if they can get it turned around, can go on a big winning streak but I think having no Varitek, no Wakefield, no Trot, no Damon, no Millar etc has caught up with them. Too many rookies on the pitching staff who aren't used to long seasons.

Best thing for the Braves would be the return of Ted Turner. Not joking either. He would pay the money to make them a winner, while the current ownership is more concerned about profit margins, etc. As close as they are or have been most years, one good trade would have probably gotten them 1-2 more titles.

Losing Leo Mazzone was the end of us. He took junk and made it useable.

He hasn't really had that much affect with Baltimore yet. Eric Beddard is about the only one who has looked a lot better. I think Leo saw that there wasn't a whole lot left there. Smoltz is nearing the end, Hudson has lost his ability, Hampton is a lost cause.

I was shocked that they basically gave away Sosa earlier, I mean he was pretty durn good last year, you normally don't lose value so quickly.

I never understood how or why Boston let their core go. The Yankees have always kept their "core" guys until they basically choose to leave, meaning retire. I do not think Jeter, Posada or Rivera will ever play for any other team besides the Yankees.

I totally agree with you Rock. When he dropped ownership, that is what cost the Bravos over the last few years, and it didn't completely rear its ugly head till this year.

ESPN made a comment when the Andrew Jones rumors were going around, that if they did it, Atlanta became a small market team. They're really not that far from it.

With the lack of fan support in Atlanta, and money slashing that Time Warner is doing, I would agree. Plus, they were running into problems in AAA since Richmond was not wanting to fund a new ballpark there, and the old one is going down the crapper. Hotlanta is not in a good position right now unless ole moneybags Turner takes the team back over.

There needs to be some big changes by next year, not just talent but they need some leaders. I expect Crisp to be this years Edgar Renteria (someone they fall out of love with quickly, who goes elsewhere and looks good again).

The 5-game sweep by the Yankees did 'em in. Even worse was that it was at Fenway. They barely have a pulse now.

Boston and New York have both lost a lot due to injury, but there have been two major differences between them this year. NY has leadership, i.e. Jeter, Rivera, Mussina, and even Giambi, who have stepped up and had big years. Big Papi carries Boston but it takes more than just one guy, look at the Giants. Second thing, New York has replaced a lot of what they lost on the DL with Abreu, Wilson, Lidle, etc. The NY front office has made adjustments and the Boston management has remained idle. Props to Cashman and the Boss, they are getting it done, even though I still hate em.
