Dawgs

4 Hours 44 minutes til kickoff. Dawgs, as you walk down those steps toward the field, Think of Coach Turner. Think of all the hard work you've put in. Think of all the motivational speeches from coach turner in the past. Think of whats happened to your town over the past few months.

Tonight, when you walk down those steps, The school, Town, Old Dawgs, and Coach Turner will be right behind you. You represent all of that. Go hard, 100% on every play. Dont quit until the whistle, play hard for 4 quarters. Be Bulldogs.

Very flat tonight.
Got to come out with more fire against Burton.
We needed to change the offense up more. Stayed in the I to much. Even when RC was taking it away.
Got to change up.
A win is a win. But we have to step it up for next week.

Life goes on. Tom is gone and . Time for Coach Austin to step up and be a HEAD COACH. Needs to rein in Travis from what I heard.

Yeah, tonight I was fairly unimpressed by the determination shown by Appalachia. They didn't do TERRIBLE, they just didn't come out with as much determination to win as I'd hoped for.

The running game was pretty well-established with Morgan Ireson (#20) and Sammy Jessee (#22) getting in some really good runs. Brett Leedy (#30) had some pretty good runs as well.

The passing game was fairly lacking.. Cody Richardson overthrew several long bombs that could have been huge completions, and even threw a short pass that ended up being intercepted.

The Appy defense got the job done, but was nothing to write home about.

It was a pretty good ball game nevertheless. Although Appalachia picked up the pace later on and started to play harder, Rye Cove played a good game as well and fought hard to the very end.

Appy versus Burton next week will be an interesting game.. I just hope the Dawgs can get fired up enough to bring what it takes to go 100% versus the Raiders.

I came home tonight finding myself Disgusted. What I saw tonight was players just goin' through the motions.
I was very let down by the coaching also. Whats with not running the T-formation at all in the first half? We dont have the team to spread the field... am I the only one who sees that?

Next week the Coaching better be much improved, and the players better show up to play 100% for 4 quarters or you're gonna be embarrassed. Im talking 50 or 60 points worth of embarrassment.

Its time to Step it up, Dawgs.

But next week is a big game a Div. game, time to come out with some fire and some big time plays.

If not it could get embrassing really fast.

Chubz, the passing game is a 2 man show. Those WRs need to bust a hump to get to that ball. Cody had to put the ball where he knew only his man had a shot at catching it. After he lets it go, it's up to the receiver to finish it off with a catch. Passing in a gametime situation is a lot different than just passing for fun. And that short pass for an INT was due to the rush that the O line let through. Ya know, they call QBs and RBs and WRs skill positions, but it takse some skill to play on that line and our guys just didn't show much tonight. And even though they say a win is a win is a win, tonight's effort won't get it done against the Raiders. Maybe this is all a part of how long they waited to appoint a head coach which led to some slacking on the part of the players by not practicing enough this summer. And maybe as the season wears on and they practice and get better in shape they'll do a lot better. We can hope anyway.

I feel kind of bad for Roger Austin...if things start going bad, all you'll hear is "....wasn't like that when Coach Turner was here." Matter of fact, I heard somewhat of the same thing from some people tonight. I wish him the best of luck, though.

I know it was the same way when Meade took over for Cummins at Clintwood it is hard to take over for a legond IMHO Auston and the BullDaws will be fine so long as the kids do not constently hear how coaching is screwing them up.

Look at it this way With the exception of Burton Rye Cove is the next best team in Div 1 and a Flat Appy took them by 2 TDs lets not string up the coach just yet

Am I the only one that realizes that Travis actually runs that team and they had to put someone in as a head coach (and it obviously can't be Travis) so Roger got the title.

I was at the game and didn't see a whole lot out of Roger but Travis was all over the place. Roger may be taking lessons from Tom, I remeber him doing alot of standing around and letting Travis and the others take care of everyting the past few years and coming over and saying something to one of them every now and then.

Roger's the head coach guys.
And it wasn't as much the coaching as not a lot of fire. Didn't want to open things up alot. But we just came out flat. And can't take away from Rye Cove. They come into a bad situation and didn't let it explode on them, with the emotional things.
Personally i just didn't see the fire i wanted to. And i wish we had done a few things differently which Burton had people there since they seen Appy scrimmage Lee and i knew we wouldn't show alot.

Which that is Appy football as you all know. We did what we needed to do to win. I think you have heard those words before. It wasn't pretty but it was effective. But we will have to play alot better this week.

True. But several of the morons can't get over things that happend over a decade ago. I wish Coach Austin the best, but I think he's in a no win situation.

Hey bud, my mom died at age 49. I miss her terribly. She is not coming back. Life does go on. Didn't mean it in a bad way at all. People need to try and adjust to life's bad situaions. Not everything is meant in a harmful way. Tom is gone and as the bible says---"The dead knoweth nothing". Maybe not exact quote, but it references that. I'm so happy my mom doesn't see all the horrendous things going on down here.

Things are fine. Folks have got to realize. The changes your seeing didn't happen just because Tom passed away.
Tom was implementing them in practices a year or so ago.
Just was slowly bring some of the players up to speed, to get them to adjust to it. It's something that Travis and Tom and Roger all talked about.
Just now able to really work on it and have most healthy enough to do it.
My only concern was what i seen from the players. No sense of urgency at times in crucial moments. That will change to.
It's a new era. People have to learn to adjust.
How hard is that. Very hard.
Some need to remember Tom had done retired so there was going to be a change of some kind. Im just glad those in the program, got to keep going, with what they had been working on for a year or so.
It could of really took a more wild turn. Think about it.
But we will be fine as usual. It's a way of life. Nothing we haven't seen or been through. We will be fine.

Appalachia is Roger Austin's team. Tom's memories and teachings will be at Appy forever. But people need to support Roger, not belittle him on here. I always thought that Roger was the most "passionate" coaches I had. He got fired up on the sidelines. When I was on the field and seen that, I was ready to got 100% HARDER. Roger has the ability to keep Appy growing. But, he has to have support as well. He has coached long enough to ignore the "ney sayers". But a pat on the back helps alot. If you get on here and read this Roger, good job Friday night. Get those boys fired up for JIB and take it to them. Good luck.

I was not pointing fingers at any one individual. I've said it before and I'll say it again for you...Football is a team sport. Only when the entire team comes together can they really succeed. I just read what Chubz posted that Cody overthrew some passes and was merely trying to show him that it wasn't just Cody, but Cody AND the receivers who couldn't connect. I also said it's hard for a QB to pass well in the face of a rush. A rush that was allowed by the O line. But there in again, it takes a team to win. If the the line holds, the QB has time to throw, and the receivers get to the ball more than likely it'll be a completed pass. A team effort. I never pointed fingers or anything immature. Try again?

I didn't mean to point fingers, I was just saying that I saw Richardson throw some passes too far so that they went nearly out of bounds to where the receiver couldn't make it to them.

Just because I criticize an error on Appy's part doesn't mean that I am picking on that certain individual to put them down or that I'm saying that I could do any better out there... In fact, Richardson is improving year by year (I can see how much he's improved when I compare him to his freshman year) and he isn't a bad QB at all, Appalachia just had a pretty bad game against Rye Cove and I wish them to a better game when it comes time for the game versus Burton.

That is indeed true. Although some of those passes that are thrown past the receiver may end up as being incomplete, it's better to throw over the receiver and have it incomplete than it is to underthrow and have an interception on your hands!

Did I once say the outcome of the game was any one indiviuals fault? No. I won't. I brought up the fact that some improvement could be made in some areas. They all played well. But playing well will only get them so far. I'd love to see them go all the way and win it. And if they did, I won't say it was only because of a handfull or even just one player. I happen to be related to Cody and have an interest in what he does. But I don't sugar coat it for him when we talk about it. I've told him the same things I post here. And I also tell him when I think he's not doing his best. These are indeed teenagers were talking about. I realize that. And as such if you just say good game and let it go at that what have they learned? They have to learn that they have room to improve and be pushed to achieve that improvement. I'm sure the coaching staff says a lot worse than I do. Ya wanna accuse them of pointing fingers? And I've read a lot worse on here than what I said. By other Appy fans no less. It's all a matter of stating your opinion of what you saw and thought. Just because any of us says we don't think they're playing their best doesn't mean we think any less of them as individuals. I said what I said and don't feel I was being immature or pointing fingers. We may not agree on the topic, but we can agree to disagree. C'est la vie!!

Chubz, I know you weren't pointing fingers. And I appreciate your explanation and support of the Dawgs, Cody specifically. I only meant to bring up the fact he's not the only player involved in the passing game. Hell, he's not the only player involved in the whole game. I was only trying to discuss this fact with you.
