Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Well, I can definitely say Haysi handed it to Clintwood. Came out of the gate, put it on Clintwood early, maybe shell shocked the Wave a bit. Clintwood, to their credit, didn't give up and had a chance before the half to put it down to a 1 score game, but Haysi stepped up and made a big stop.
Simply put, the Haysi lines dominated the game.
I'll post more later but for the moment, well my birthday is ruined. I don't mind losing so much if you play well, but I can truthfully say we didn't. Not taking anything away from Haysi, they executed pretty well all night.
Congratulations Haysi

Well, happy birthday anyway.
Maybe our favorite Clintwood fan can give some perspective on the game after you give your thoughts.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Well i know that im going to sound like a sore loser who is try to make excuses but the tigers have one of the dirtiest players that i ever saw. #7 (dont know his name) would take you after the ref blew the whistle and wasnt looking and throw you to the ground. Then when you get up he is standing there like nothing happened. It happened to everyone one of our recievers tonight not just me. The refs shouldve called the penalty or something.
But i have to give congrats to the tigers they whipped us tonight on the lines.

Sorry your birthday was ruined, but it sounds like the better team won... again.
Life is good.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Im just disgusted with the whole game. James Colley is possiably the most underated coach in SWVA history.
Haysi was just a more mature and seasoned football team. Thats about all you can say. Its tough to go to Sandlick with a good football team, let alone taking a pack of freshman and sophmores who have yet to play in a big game. We just got bullyed up and down the field all night. Haysi was like a pack of wild animals that had just been released from a cage in the 1st quarter and we were scared to death. You are right Rocket, we never laid down though. 3 years in a row is very hard to swallow.
By the way, #7 from Haysi, whoever he was, is the most impressive football player I have seen in a while. He played at least 6 different positions throughout the game and dominated all of them. He was meaner than a rattle snake to.
-
Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
He had a nasty streak a mile long didnt he Tim?? He had the mentality that some of our players need.
-
Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Well since your favorite poster hasn't got on here yet, I'll chime in. Tell me something GC1, you have the ball first and goal with about 2 minutes to go. All 3 timeouts, and bam you hurry to the line and ground the ball. Then time -out. Well in short we end up getting an intentional grounding call which was correct. In short, no score and go in the locker room with 2 timeouts left. Halftime-27-13, could've been 27-20. Thoroughly outplayed and outcoached. Haysi is the real deal again.
-
Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I mean i can understand him hitting us and throwing us the the ground but waiting until the whistle blows to do it is just wrong. Now if he did it before the whist i couldnt say anything about him.
-
Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Ah its going to happen over and over again man just have to take the good with the bad and play like the wave always have. Dont stoop to there levels

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I seen him knocking you all down left and right, but I never seen him do it after the whistle. Not to say that he didnt because you could just tell that he was nasty, but I didnt see it. He was just like the school yard bully and unfortunatly, it looked as though you were one of his favorite victims.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I'm so danged tore up, I'm rambling on like LPDFTBL and Spuds. I hope I made a little sense. Those Tigers are one heck of a team!!!!!!!!!! And that my friends{and many enemies} is the ole ballgame!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Yea he looked around to make sure that the refs werent looking and then do it. He was mean but i guess he just liked throwing someone like half his size(me) down a lot. We i cant complain a whole lot i did get a way with blocking him in the back once.

I agree with what was said for the most part. The Haysi O & D lines dominated the game. They're just a much better team right now. Starting only 2 seniors and 1 or 2 juniors against a seasoned team like that can be hard. I think they're the favorites again for the Region D Championship. They play hard fast and just smack you in the face. It reminded me of some of the old Appy teams.
I was pleased with the way our guys kept fighting. It'd be easy to give up down 20 in the first quarter but they stuck with it. That first quarter killed us. We looked like crap in every phase of the game. I thought we played much better for the next three quarters but not near enough to win.

You're out of your mind big boy. I spent halftime with mr Coeburn Cane. With about 5 to go I watched the rest of the game from the upper fence. Then had to sit in my car for half an hour to get out from behind the 50 dopes that blocked me in. That is the worst parking situation in the world.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I agree with most of the analysis on here...i do wanna say nice job by Clintwood not laying down. they could have very easily mailed it in early and got beat by 40 or 50 but they kept their heads up and hung in there. good sign of things to come from them. i was impressed with the clintwood quickness and speed especially from #28(Osborne I think) he is a keeper. Robinson looks to have a good season as a QB as well. Clintwood had the edge in speed and quickness but Haysi was overwhelmingly more physical especially on the lines of scrimmage. Nearly all of the bone crushing hits in the game were delivered by Haysi players who just appeared to be bigger and stronger than the Clintwood team as a whole. Clintwood has nothing to be ashamed of they will have a fine year in my opinion. The Clintwood defense just didn't have any answers to stop Haysi from eating away clock and methodically driving the ball down the field. I don't think Haysi had a 3 and out the entire night. Also I wouldn't be surprised if this Clintwood team gets better and better as the year goes on. I wouldn't for one second count them out of the LPD mix. Seems alot of focus is being placed on Clintwood's youth and they are young but I don't think people realize that Haysi did have quite a few sophomores and juniors playing big roles in the game. The MVP of the game is a Jr(Powers # 48)

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I actually was deadly afraid of the game tonight. Honestly, while BGJ was talking about some at Haysi not taking it seriously, I was afraid some of Clintwoods was too over confident.
I think that Clintwood could improve as much as anybody over the course of the season. Remember I said I didn't know last week if really looked that good or Grundy looked that bad. I mean we dominated the line of scrimmage but what was the competition doing? It's like saying you have a high C average to the person that has a low C average. Yours is better but really how much?
I think if Haysi had stumbled a bit early, Clintwood might could have gotten back in it, but to their credit, they stepped on our neck and kept us down.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Things Clintwood Needs to improve on
1. Line
2. Holding on to the ball
Clintwood fumbling the ball every three plays will keep them from winning a lot of games I think they can win. I think they are a good team but little things like that will kill them. The refs tonight gave clintwood a lot of fumbles back they clearly lost. Clintwood cannot count on such generosity every game. I do however think with a little work they could be a contender in the LPD. I really liked the fact they didn't just bend over and take it...they demanded a reach around. They were beat but still showed a lot of heart.
#7 is chad barton. Great ball player but I don't think I ever saw him hit anyone after the play unless he was smacking them on the butt.
By the way the officiating was terrible tonight.
-
Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Timmy V is such a pansy hahaha "Chad Barton hit me..I'm a wide receiver so I shouldn't be hit." Suck it up. I've never heard anyone whine about being hit IN A FOOTBALL GAME so much. Last time I checked football WAS a contact sport. But I don't know...i'm not a doctor.
-
Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Haha call me whatever you want i dont care. Ask every wide reciever from clintwood about what he did. Football is a contact soport but not one where you are supposed to get thrown to the ground by your helmet after the whistle is blown.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
Met Ironlung at the game, we didn't talk just hi and shook hands pretty much.
I do beleive that Colley put it cost after the first quarter and being up 27-6. He did know he had the far better team and didn't want to come out and throw 60 up for no reason especially when it is a team that you play every year and there will be times when the tables are turned and you don't want your players to be on the receiving end.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
If there was any doubt about who was ready for this game, you only needed to hear the roar coming from the Haysi lockerroom before they came on the field. This is a team fired up and for good reason.
I think most knew that Haysi owned this game from the first possession. This really was a huge mismatch in terms of size, strength, and power. Credit has to go to a Clintwood team that didn't give up. It could have easily been a 50 or 60-0 shutout.
I agree Haysi should have the BDD locked down and has to be considered a strong contender for the Region D championship again. If so, its gonna be a bitter pill to swallow for Clintwood in this rivalry. Will Haysi win the State Championship? I'd be surprised because the level of competition is so much higher now in the rest of the state. But never say never.
But I don't think anyone can deny that the tide has turned in Dickenson County. The era of Ralph Cummins and the legacy of state championships for Clintwood fades a little more everday. Some would say those days will never be seen in Clintwood again. For Haysi, however, their day in the sun may have just begun.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I did see him throwing some people around after the whistle last night and not offering to help them back up most of it on the clintwood side line with refs looking right at it. But im not going to complain about it i was in the stands i know how it goes on the field though.

Ahh the life of a scout, I saw Appy so much last year people from there thought they had someone new moved into town except for the Coeburn shirt. It will be so much nicer getting to go to Nora to watch Ervinton instead of Cwood, and lest I forget the drive to Thomas Walker.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
I'm sure it seems really bad to get knocked around like that, but compared to some of the teams Clintwood played years ago, it is really kind of mild. Haysi has a very rough, physical team. But, there have been worse. The Appalachia teams of the 80's come to mind.

i think you guys done a very good job of sticking with it espically after getting down 20-0 early. Alot of teams would have rolled over and quit. i did see a few people hit #7 pretty good a few times he was trying his best to intimidate all of the clintwood players and you goes showed him it wasnt working so that says alot right there.

I have to disagree with that statement in reguards to the 1st quarter anyway. We were scared to death by Haysi's intensity and explosiveness they came out with. #7 was there leading man in the intimidation category.

Re: Clintwood-Haysi thoughts
exactly it is the present moment time will come i remember not to long ago that Haysi was on the other end of a clintwood win after win for at least 8 years that i know of in a row. actually that streak just ended about 3 yrs ago.
