Who thinks Gate City will make it out of region?
Seems like you do, who's gonna keep them from advancing?
I honestly don't believe they will make it out of district, let alone region. They don't have the leadership on this team to be successful. I don't see anyone filling that role either.
They appear to be down a bit from last year, without the exchange student and helms they are a totally different team. Musick cannot carry all the load on her own, the lpd win streak will end this season.
its just the start of the season. somebody will step up before the seasons over.
Maybe so, but leadership cannot be obtained overnight. Even with help Musick couldn't carry the team. The Devils don't have enough talent this year to finish on top. They are going to leave the LPD with a bitter taste and bitter feelings. Winning comes at a price, a price they can't pay.
too bad you cant win titles by posting on a message board, huh trojan? i know its 2006, this is the oldest cliche in the book, and youve all heard it a thousand times, but To Be THE TEAM You (Still) Have to BEAT The TEAM. good luck this season.
Is ashton bishop not playing this year?
Gate City won't make it out of district? Come on.
I'm by no means a Gate City fan but even if this year is a rebuilding year they'll still be at the top of the standings, whether it be at #1 or #2. And unless there's a big upset, should make it to the region tournament again.
Worry about your own team before you start picking apart others.
i dont know. she might not be. i'll ask around when i see some of my buddies from gc.
No, Bishop is focusing on her running this fall.
Well first off, there's no need to worry about my team. I believe they can take care of themselves, unlike the Devils. And maybe they will make it out of district.....considering the LPD is always so weak in volleyball. A team of only one front row player and two back row players could be successful against the LPD. This is why the Devils have no reason to feel good about their success in the Lonesome Pine. They are definetly overrated. I don't think they can make it out of Region D...and if they do, the REAL teams from Region C will be more than happy to hand out a loss to the supposable "Mighty" Lady Devils. Region C is where southwest Virginia volleyball lives.
i think you lose any credit when you use words like "supposable"...
btw, you're from gate city

Hmm.. that's funny. Last time I checked Region D has the past four state volleyball championships.
"Supposable" is a real word, as strange as it sounds.
Not sure if he used it correctly in his sentence, though.
I definitely think Gate City can make it out of the district. I don't see two teams beating them out.
But I do agree that they will face some competition from Region C at the state level. Battle only lost two players and they had close matches with Gate City last year. It would (will?) be a good match.
And supposable is a word.
A little arrogant, aren't you?! Didn't your trojans get spanked by the Devils last year. My teams have been beaten by the Devils enough to know that yeah, this team may not have the heavy artillery that they have had in the past. However, they are still Gate City and they are always fundamentally strong, confident, and are still the State Champions until they are knocked off. SO, Until Region C gains a State Title or knocks off Gate City, remember that Region D has rocked Region C's world for four years running. Volleyball lives in Region C...That is laughable.
Actually they beat Gate City once last year.
They might have, but that still proves nothing to me. Didn't GC knock them out of State? That's when it matters the most anyway. I wish both teams luck, but let your team's play show if they can knock off GC. Personally, it won't hurt my feelings!
supposable-adj. to think or hold as an opinion. In other words, it's held as an opinion that Gate City is "mighty". It's not a proven fact they are strong this year, and it won't be proven. Who cares about district, of course they'll dominate; and who cares about past glory or victories. It's a new season, and the future belongs to Region C.
oh no it's most definitely a word...you just used it wrong
supposable means literally that it is able to be supposed...if it is able to be supposed that GC is mighty then you are defeating your own purpose of putting it in quotation marks (im assuming that you don't think GC is mighty)
so to say that the blue devils are supposable "mighty" means that youre saying two contradicting things

???????....wish i were as smart as you; vthokie, you must be a genius????
you don't have to be a genius to use words correctly
I thought this was a sport's forum, not grammar class. Let's stick to the main topic. By the way, you forgot to capitalize and use puncuation.
for not being worried about the LPD/Gate City you sure are spending enough time on here.
talk is cheap.
awesome...i'll remember that next time
just don't throw around big words if you can't use them
Nice comeback...I'll have to use that one sometime. Oh, not worried. I just like to hear other people's opinions about things. I don't continually watch the news because I'm worried....I watch so I can be informed about other's opinions. I've got my opinions, and you've got yours.

Hmmm, the Lady Eagles of Rye Cove took the state titles on March 1, 2003 and again on Nov. 22, 2003 after the realignment with basketball. Gate City (another Scott County and Region D team) then took the title in November 2004 and 2005. Any imagined Region C dominance has long been displaced by Region D teams of late. That trend may very well continue.
My daughter happened to be on the back-to-back RC State Champion teams. As a starter on the RC squads, she played with and against some of the best players I've seen in Virginia in the last 20 years. An excellent player in her own right, she knows her volleyball, so I'll give you what she told me about GC.
She said she was very impressed with Gate City's team, especially the Musick girl. Mind you, GC was always a Region D rival for her, so she gives praise sparingly. For her to tell me she was "impressed" with GC tells me they have a very good team again this year.
As I'm wont to say about any season or any team: "Time will tell."
Nice post...I respect your opinion.
Not trying to stir things up, but Rye Cove faced Battle last night and lost in three games. However, they did beat Battle in a summer tourney.

Battle has the experience necessary to do big things this year, with Woods and other returners they should be a dominant force. Talk is though that Glenvar is going to be the team to beat in Region C. They have two great middle hitters and a decent setter. I've been told though they aren't good in big games. Whoever makes it out of Region D will have a hard time. I read where Gate City brought down a big school last night.....I look forward to seeing how this season progresses for all three teams. Should be interesting.
Nice to know that you guys don't think Region D has a chance against you. Maybe our teams should just end our season now, or maybe just refuse to advance after the Region D Championship game.
Just stating facts, that's all.
Ok....facts....nope not facts
Opinions, maybe we need to post a link to an online dictionary or something
A fact is that the Pittsburg Steelers defeated the Miami Dolphins last night. An opinion would be that the Steelers were the better team.
You may be completely right, nobody in the Region may be able to compete with them. However, I think we have all seen the "not able to competes" win before.
Shew that is one of my biggest pet peeves. Too many people who think their crap doesn't stink and that because they think something its a fact.
Exactly Rock. Opinion was that no one could touch George Wythe in the state in the first season it was turned into a fall season. The fact was that RC defeated them for the championship.
I said whoever makes it out of Region D will have a tough time. This is true....why??? Because Glenvar and Battle are both great teams; it's proven! All I know is the game, when it comes, between C and D will be a interesting.
Any team that makes it that far should be a tough matchup.
Now sometimes a team from a particular region will be tougher, but when you get that far, even more than regular season, there is really no easy wins.
Battle may be the class of the field, or Glenvar for that matter. Heck, the class of the field may be someone nobody is considering yet. I dare say that a #6 seed Pittsburg was not considered the favorite to run the table, on the road, and win the Super Bowl. The moment you start thinking how nobody can beat you, is when you overlook someone you shouldn't. It doesn't take a team being better than you the entire year come playoff time, it just takes them being better that one day.
By all mean, say that you think Battle is the team to beat. They very well might be that. Just don't mistake opinions, informed or not, with fact.
As you say, when you get to that level, most all games are going to be tough.
RC was flat last night to say the least. I blame it more on tired legs than anything. Their third match in as many days, with a hard fought match the night before against Central. This is early season, and a lot can happen before it gets to the end. Heck, I may bring in an All State hitter from Germany (again!) before the season is through. I've been brousing their catalog, and there is a 6'4' beauty still available......
Is the Rye Cove team you are talking about going to be able to compete with Gate City???
Also, last year Grayson County was without one it's middle hitters...she was a starter....in the Region C semi's. They were expected to win the Region if she would have been healthy. So if she's playing this year, and Glenvar beat them...then obviously Glenvar has some talent. Anyone know about what Region D has please post.
