Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Hey guys, I just wanted to ask this question since tomorrow is my brother's first JV game. He may not be playing since he hasn't been on the team for long, but I hope that he does get some playing time..
I'll be bringing my camera mainly to record my brother whenever he gets to play, but if you guys want me to, I can record even when he isn't playing..
Not sure if I should waste the time doing it or not since JV isn't discussed much (if any) on here.. Not to mention the UVA game that I recorded got 0 replies.
Also, I won't get to go to EVERY game, but only the ones that are local. Tomorrow, the JV game is at Pound.. so since that one is fairly local, I'll be attending it.
(PS best of luck to both teams)

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
I had the Coeburn - Kelly Scrimmage last monday, and they were suppost to play a game but ended up scrimmaging. Something about Coeburn hadn`t prac but a couple of times. Why such a late start?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
No clue.. haven't even gotten to attend any of my brother's practices yet, although I'd like to.
I didn't even know they had such a late start; hope it doesn't cripple them too much versus a team that has been practicing longer (Pound probably has, for example!)

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
i believe they didn't have many to play so i think that's why but don't hold me to that

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Don't record any JV games if you are playing JJK (this is for all schools), because you will be recording your beloved team on the receiving end of a Grade A arse whipping. Yeah-we have guys that are 260 across the line, and our skill folks have at worst 4.3 speed. I fully expect or RB to have a 2500 yard season. I look for these boys to go undefeated this year, as well as never lose a game in high school. We have a legit 7 D-1 prospects on the squad. There is no reason for them not to capture the USA Today High School mythical JV National Championship.
Heck, I figured we haven't seen an over-inflated B.S. post on JV football yet this year (shocking really), so I'll get the ball rolling

Only 7? I heard you all had 11 D1 prospects! And the RB could easily get 2000 yds while the QB has 3000 yds passing and 2 receivers with 10 TD's apiece and over 1000 yds receiving! Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
You may be right. We'll see more when we play Permian, TX tonight. I hear they have a decent program. We thought our QB (who throws the world's most perfect spiral BTW) was going to throw for 3500 easily, but he broke his throwing hand, and now will be throwing the ball left-handed, so we figure that'll cut him to 2500 or so

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Is this a home game for the Indians? I heard there was going to be 119 D1 scouts at the game. Here my prediction. Its a little lower due to the fact that the QB broke his hand. Good thing he is abdextrious (sp?)!

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
We actually have a pretty good JV team this year, or so it seems after a couple of games.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Yeah-it's at home and there's actually going to be 227 scouts from D-1 and 321 D-2 scouts (wasting their time). We have brought in extra seating for everybody.
Hadn't you all noticed that they cut down the pine trees behind the visitors side. They did this so everybody that couldn't get a seat after the fences filled and we locked the place could at least see the world's most perfect spiral soaring through the air. Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
In all seriousness they should be with that size and kids that I watched over the last few years. B.I. is going to be in business soon.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Was just called and told by my brother that the Pound game has been cancelled due to "problems with their field", but the Coeburn JV team will still have practice today.
Yay.

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Pound will have problems with their field the rest of the season. It took a beating during the Kelly-Pound game.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
It was in really bad shape before they even set foot on it.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
i'd say there field will not get much better for the rest of the year
few years back we played pound after it had rained all week long, the field was nothing but mud after we finished the game
to beat it all, the game was won on a punt return by ricky hayes at the end of the game
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
The only thing I can say positive about Pound's field is that the next 3 games are away and throw in the bye week, it gives it 4 weeks to try and get it fixed up some. And Chubz I would film every game for your brother not to post on here, but to give him something to look back on later in life and relive some of his playing days. It will also help him get better if he can study the tapes and learn how to look at film. This will make it easier on the coach when he goes over game film with the team to explain things to him. Some people watch film but thats it, they are not studying the opponent or their mistakes, so they never learn how to get better. Hope this makes some sense.

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
You are right on the money about an arse whipping! My question is how many 10-11-12 graders did kelly use the other night when they beat pound's j.v. 44-0? If those guys were 8-9 graders you can go ahead and make 'kelly state champions 09' banners!! #58 and #60 were men among kids, theres no way those guys were 8-9 graders. There were other players but I cant remember the #'s that really stood out. Pound's jv battled clintwood's jv in a scrimmage a couple of weeks ago and both teams held their own.

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
lol!! you want some cheese with that whine....?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Want me to break the bad news to you now or save it for later?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Bout all of the starters for Kelly were 10th 11th & 12 graders* I only know of a few that were 9th graders on the whole them* Well more older guys than J.V. players amyways* Pound did have 1 or 2 older guys* But most of the team are 8th and 9th graders* And I must say that if you are that bad in football to go against a bunch of smaller and younger boys and are not good enough to play on the Varisty team* Then you need to be in the stands*Take all your older guys out and play a fair game and I bet you get a different game in the end* But one advantage for my son is that it will only make him better to hit you big varsity guys that are not good enough to be on the field on Friday nights* This happened last year too* But keep tryin, you guys might get good enough to play a real Friday night game and feel good bout goin up against boys your own age and size*

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
I smell some overexaggeration ..
11th and 12th graders in JV?
BS.. you know the coaches wouldn't let them do that..
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Actually they can. It's called a B game where older kids who don't get much p/t on varsity can play in JV games for experience. It's usually agreed upon by the coaches before hand though.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Let me tell you something right now* I know for a fact that it did happen last year* And it did happen the other night when we played them* BS IS what you smell, and everytime I go to Wise I smell it too* So act like you know what your talking about all you want*
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Never knew there was such a thing.. Don't think it's fair at all though to mix and match grade levels like that.
They should just keep JV 8th and 9th grade and Varsity 9th-12th grade (with 9th graders playing if they CHOOSE TO DO SO.)
That'd be like taking someone playing at a college (who isn't starting) and agreeing to let them play again in the high school they used to attend...
Seems stupid to me at least.

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
We have THREE sophs on this squad (a couple aren't huge contributers) As for playing a real Friday night game: how'd you guys do against us? To hear someone from Pound crying about that is funny as hell, considering my son's 3rd-grade squad only lost one game 2 yrs ago against Pound's 5th graders. When asked why we were having to play kids much bigger and stronger, we were told that "there wasn't enough kids to field a 3rd-grade squad". That seemed funny to me because Twin Springs and Rye Cove (small communities) had no problem doing it, but we could go on and on about that L.L. program over there (from what I hear there's a new sheriff in town there who's going to clean it up).
Pound did have 1-2 olders guys? LOL that whole post was funny.
Let's not call the kettle black pot
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
It's usually done by both squads so it's no big deal. The older kids that don't play varsity are usually no real threat to the younger ones anyway. I don't know if it happened in the game mentioned above or not. There's somebody crying about this crap every year though. Who cares? It's JV. It's meaningless. All it is is a learning experience.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Isn't there at least one post a year from Pound on this exact same thing I.D.?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
JV or not, though, I'm sure the players still feel cheated when their teams are faced with guys 2-3+ years older than them.
Whose fault is it if the 11th and 12th graders don't get to start in the first place?
It's the players' faults if you ask me.
With hard work comes great rewards!
I guess it's called a 'B' game for "Bully game."

I don't know how they feel cheated when it's the same situation with varsity. Clintwood is playing with 5-6 freshmen starting this year against seniors. Most of the time it's just sophomores. Every once in a while a junior or two.

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Everythime I go to Wise I smell it too*
Funny, we say the same thing when we go to Pound*
But we are all going to have to learn to get along soon. we are not going to have a choice.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
That is very true, and sometimes Freshmen do perform great on a Varsity level. (Remember Pinkston last year for PV? Great example.)
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Yea Wise beat Pound. But that is not the game I was talking about. Not cryin here just know that goin up against the bigger boys will only make my son better.Your son's games 2 years ago,I have no clue what your talking about. That's not my son's age group.Yea I also can see a big difference in Pound's youth league in just one game. And I also said that Pound had a few older.Glad you got a laugh out of it.

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
Holy schmokes, am I seeing what I think I see?
No asterisks?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
NO jv is not meaningless. How can you sit and say that? Those boys are working hard for a reason in practice. And if it was meaningless...Why would they practice everyday?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
By "meaningless" he is basically saying that it means something only to the coaches and players and their parents, but not a whole lot to the community itself.
I guess in that sense, however, you could say that the UVA-Wise Cavs football program is "meaningless" considering the fact that like 99% of the people on this forum would rather sit and watch their huge college teams play on TV than come out and support a smaller, local college that even takes in local players.
That is sad, in my opinion. I'd rather watch the Cavs over the Irish any day.
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
IT IS MEANINGLESS! It's good practice, it's a good teaching learning tool, the overall outcome of the games as far as wins and losses is MEANINGLESS. If it was meaningful there would be more than 50 fans in attendance, there'd be some sort of radio coverage, there would be a championship game. M E A N I N G L E S S!
-
Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
So....what you are saying then is that JV games are meaningless?

Re: Should I record Coeburn JV games ?
You have to shout it from the rooftops to get some close minded, one sided people to understand. Just because you like it doesn't mean it's good, just because you like it doesn't mean it's the greatest thing in the world, just becuase it's important to you doesn't mean it's important to anyone else.
