In response to GC Fans and how they stink.........

Please do not blame the GC fans for not yelling. In every visit I have ever made to Legion Field in the past decade or so for our rivalry, there is something noticeable. Its not that the GC fans do not know how to yell or scream.... they are just TOO OLD to yell and scream. Look closely on the sideline on the "home" side of the Devils. For the past few years that our Vikings have played there, I always thought it was Senior Citizens discount night for all Blue Devil fans over 50. I always thought the "home" side of the stands was over on the side that we sat on because that is always where the loudest and rowdiest part of the stadium always was. But if you were wondering why they stink so much, its not so much that they stink but that they are just way too old. They are out of touch with todays reality. You know how they say that when people get older they become more like children? Well, there you go. The GC fans... old as they may be... have reverted back to their old ways of being childhood brats. They will clap if something pleases them and then they whine and cry when they don't get their way. So GC fans I understand. I think your players understand too. They don't really play for you. They probably play for the tradition that used to be a part of Legion Field a long time ago and for the players that used to come before them that were so highly regarded. But definitely... definitely not for you. I mean really now... would you play for you? I know I wouldn't. At least at Powell Valley, we have a least a 1/4 of our fans who still dont wear pacemakers. That means we don't have a heart problem by the way... in a matter of speaking in two ways. But.. have fun Blue Devil fans. Your trip to the other side will be coming soon. Hopefully real soon so that your players will actually have some fans....haha...

PV 2006 LPD champs? Well congratulations champs, right now you are barley .500 and not even the 4 seed in the playoffs. You ain't won NOTHIN yet. Fans talking trash on message boards - maybe you are the champions of that. Anywho...

GC fans were respectable vs. Richlands - they still showed up knowing full well what was about to happen.
Let's face it - no one gets that excited in Coeburn about anything except the coal index.
GC fans were rowdy enough vs. Pound. The top row 'Hell's Bells' were doing a fantastic job. I think the NCFC boys on the front row ran out of early times way too early. But let me ask all you PV fans - how fired up do you guys get to play the Mildcats?
GC is still the toughest place to win a ballgame in SWVa. Just ask Joe Tony or Jimbo Adams. Watch how, during the BIG Games, the PV or JIB kids are looking up into the stands and talking trash, not paying attention to the game. It happens EVERY WEEK.
When the horns are blaring,
When the bells are ringing,
When the crowd is roaring,
When the ever loving Fire Works are going off,


Then tell me whose fans stink. As of now and what I have seen in the last 20 years at Legion Field /Colobro Stadium,
No other fans in that state can touch us.
As far as I can see, PV needs to worry about beating the GC boys on the field (not the GC boys in the stands) and scrambling to get that Four Seed. Losses to Burton and the Boys in Blue will have PV home for Thanksgiving.

It is one thing to pick out Gate City fans as a whole.. It's a completely different thing to make fun of someone that is mentally handicapped! It only shows the LOW CLASS that Gate City is! This is not a comment about your football team, fans etc... This is a comment about you!

If you want to talk about football you have to talk about this... Powell Valley 8 State Titles... Gate City only 1 after asking the VHSL to let them step down due to being uncompetive in their classification. And just for the record, the last time the vikings were at the "scary Legion Field" they had put up 47 points on the blue devils and sent them to basketball season after the first week of playoffs!

That "town freak" as described, is mentally handicapped and all he has is Pv and high school football. After reading many of your posts on here, i have to say im really surprised that you would acknowledge such a un-classy post as that of profile 661.

Anyone, and I mean anyone that makes fun of a handicapped person has no morals at all. Come on down to a ballgame and make fun of him, see if you dont get put straight in a hurry! Football is a sport, and here we are talking about high school football, kids, and people need to get a life when all they have to talk about is making fun of a handicap person! This forum is spiraling downward and needs to be cleaned up.

I agree with all but the part of GC asking to drop part. GC petitioned the VHSL for years to stay in AA but finally chose to drop to A.

Truth be known GC and PV will both suck for many years to come.

is about as far fetched as anything I've heard. If you'll recall GC has the highest win percentage of any school in VA any classification while playing AA for over 30 years and won 3 AA titles. So to even suggest GC couldn't compete at the AA level is laughable. One of the main reasons that GC came to A is the travel was killing them and not fear of the competition. Much better to travel to Haysi for Regional play than Martinsville.

im not advocating makin fun of the guy...but to say gate city is classless because of ______ , and then the very team you support has fans that do the same thing isn't a very good argument

I am not implying anything and definately not in agreement with 661's post. If you would read closer you would see I was agreeing with Mik Mo's post. Mr. Kelly has my utmost respect and always will.

My honest opinion says that I think the game between our Powell Valley Vikings and the J.I. Burton Raiders will be the greatest classic seen in Southwest Virginia in a long time. Its just this feeling that I have. I'm not looking ahead to GC or anyone else. This game here is for the LPD Championship mark it down. The final season LPD standings will read as follows: Powell Valley 7-0 (8-2 overall), J.I. Burton 6-1, Gate City 4-3, Clintwood 4-3, and the rest well who really cares about them.

Hahahaha it is pretty good isnt it? I was funny and really.... I wasnt trying to be. I mean all the posters on here... they are telling the truth. If you make horns, bells and whistles illegal at Legion Field... what do you have? Well.. a roar... but that roar from the crowd that someone said you heard along with the bells and whistles.... I don't think that the roar of Metamucil swimming around in about 3000 stomachs counts. I mean where has the youth of the town went? If not for their student section in basketball, Gate City would definitely be the land of the living dead. I mean... geeeeeeeez. I'll be surprised if they even have a town in 30 years. I should have known this for a long time anyway. I mean... who has 3 funeral parlors within a 5 miles radius of each other.... and one next to the football stadium? Maybe they do expect some of them to just fall over soon. Everything makes a lot of sense now.

A Gate City fan. They stand up on two feet, then walk on two feet plus a cane (thats 3), look through their two eyes and the two lens of their glasses which make four, they usually are the last ones that sneak in through the gate at 7pm, but then they have to be in bed by 9, and finally they are always whining about every single play that is called either through the air or on the ground (for a possible first and 10 or first down) because they have to wear glasses and the coach doesnt. But have no fear Blue Devil fans I say he probably got hired because he knew what he was doing and none of you didnt because you were morons. I'm no dummy. Coach Harry Fry was a great coach. You would have to be a moron who lives in a cave and doesnt know football to know that Coach Nick Colobro is a great coach as well. The only thing is this. I guarantee if Bill Parcells or Joe Gibbs were coaching the Gate City Blue Devils... they would leave the first year because of two reasons. First probably because the football team is as soft as the squeezeable Charmin that I wipe my butt with everyday. And then it would be no wonder as to why they would be so soft. They always come up with this excuse or that excuse as to why they didnt do their job. I mean.. if I was a coach and I heard all these excuses coming from my players... I know where I would look for the answers as to why they were being all pansyfied and not being a man and owning up to their mistake. I would be looking up in the stands and looking at all the wrinkles up there that youd think that all of Gate City laid out in the sun for the entire day and forgot to put on sunscreen. You'd see so many Senior Citizens you'd think that the AARP was having their annual national convention in Southwest Virginia at the Campus Restaurant. Yeah, I've ate there. Nothing different there either that I've noticed.
I mean really. Im dead serious about all this. Go to a GC football game at home next time... and you'll see more people who qualify for Botox injections there than you would retirees in Florida. And their women... I mean..... who in the ___ do they think they are? They have to have some of the most stuck up, snobbiest, egotistical women ever. Aright....... Just wanted to weigh in on the Chris comment.

I agree with whoever said it was classless to call him that.

I also agree that when people go around making outrageous claims/predictions and abrasive posts, its hard to take them seriously when they do make a good point.

As for, "I've heard PV people refer to him as that" as a justification for its ok....i couldnt disagree more. I would confront someone from PV who said that about Chris the same way I would confront anyone else who made that comment. Just because X does it, doesn't make it right. Every kid in america has made this argument to a parent at some point..."But dad, Bobby parents let him have/do X." just b/c someone does something doesnt mean that its an excuse or a justification for someone else to do it....especially if that act is wrong in the first place.

As for Chris, I defy someone to find a person who cares more about every single kid at that high school (hell, cares more about past, present and future kids at that school), than Chris Kelly. I'm willing to bet that Chris cares more about the kids out on the field than a fair number of fans do...many are their to ride the bandwagon or relive the glory days.

I have no hesitation in saying that Chris would be willing to lay down his life for any one of the past or present PV players. I've experienced his devotion and love for them too often not to think that, and several times firsthand.

Here is obviously a case of you not know what you are talking about, Not only did we (Powell Valley) play teams our size or bigger in state 93-98 we played Gate City also and for the record beat them each of those years... Including 94-95 and 97-98 when we went 14-0 each of those seasons!

Great post. Chris Kelly sounds like a great fan. In Maryville there is Adam Koontz.Adam is in a wheelchair. He never misses a game.

So there's a difference in makin fun of someone handicapped, as opposed to making fun of senior citizens? I guess that's considered ok to do that? Just remember, while most of us will never have to find out how it feels to be handicapped, the majority WILL live to become senior citizens.

I've actually seen Chris talk to people from Gate City (and maybe Appy) askin how they are doin and talkin to them. I even heard that he went to Tom Turners funeral. I think that he loves ANYONE that plays football around here. It's actually sad if someone makes fun of him cause he loves this sport and as someone posted, its all he's got.
