Pound Defensive Coaching staff

Whoever is calling defensive plays for pound, Needs to be fired. I sit right under them, below the press box..... Can anyone believe they ran Cover 2, and Cover 3 all night against APPY...... On first and 10 every set of downs, he'd be hollering watch the Deep ball..... down near the goal line he'd holler They're passing!!!! I feel pretty bad for pounds players.. To work hard all year, and then have bad coaches calling horrible plays and having them in the wrong positions on about every play. I mean, maybe he's not from around here, but When does Appy throw every first down, or especially when we're on the goal line?

Good luck to pound the rest of the year. You all played hard last night, never quit. You just need some better coaching.

Amen,Pound needs a coaching change from top to bottom. J.V is a joke. I personaly don't see how Jason and Darus sleep on friday nights, after they get themselves completly embaressed on the field!! With the talent that has come thru the youth program the last 5 or 6 years they should be able to at least field a competitive team. But if say something about the coaching over here most everyone replies "but the boys love coach J". In my honest opinion the biggest problem is a lack of dedication and discpline, from both the players and most of all the coaches!!!!!!!!!

You tell me in any case where any amount of coaching can change how many kids come out for JV football.
Its not X's and O's, its Jimmies and Joes. If you dont have the players you do not win plain and simple, you can say coach this or coach that, you can name me any coach in the LPD, Robbins, Cummins, Turner etc. We all know those names cause they had the players.

It seems to me that all the people that post on this forum about other coaches like to call them out,use their names but yet they hide behind a made up name and want to put them down. By the way Born Red how many years have you coached,do you have your college degree? It is real easy to sit back and second guess!

I'll start by saying that I believe a coach has a great deal of input on whether a team win or lose.I have gotten so mad at some of our games this year.The playcalls are just not there sometimes.We do have a great bunch of kids but at the same time I wonder if some of their hearts are in the game.I think they will play like they practice.And I think a few changes in practice would help a lot too.I just don't think you move from a collage team to high school and try to teach the kids from collage point of view.As far as the JV I don't know if it will get any better or not.The coach is a great guy but a football coach?I guess we might need to give it more time.But the question for me is? How much time does it take to see if he has what it takes to be a coach.I think a JV coach needs to be workin with the kids to get them ready for Varsity.As far as the Varsity coaches I like all of them but I just wish some changes would take place and go from there.I love each and every boy on our team and I wish them nothing but the best in everything they do.And I am so proud of them for all they do.All the hard work that has to be done for a Friday night game. And getting out there and fighting for a win and not giving up.Good luck on the rest of the season.

games are about x's and o's...if my x's are better than your o's...im going to win...pound is down this year in boys sports. just wait and see if anyone in pound has a winning record in boys sports?

It seems funny to me that I went back and checked and Pound averaged 28 points a game last year and had a 1000 yard rusher and won 6 games , but the offense doesn't work....maybe players make a difference some times you think!

The title of the post is defense!!Yes the players make a team ...but what is the coach there for? Does he not call the plays?

No one is trying to run off any coach.I don't see it on here anywhere where someone from Pound said to run um off.

not talking about just football. kelly's had two baseball coaches in 35-40 years....shupe left cause he wanted to. girls basketball coach has been there 20 years or more....boys basketball will be there as long as he wants to be....can't say anybody's been run off since early to mid 80s by the people of wise.

look at pound....can you name a coach at the school that was head coach 5 years ago? no....will any of them be head coach 5 years from now? doubtful unless they just like to be abused.

Speaking as a family member of xcoach and someone who cares a great deal for alot of people on the football squad I have a few things I would like to say.

First of all, Darius is not spelled Darus, second embarrassed is spelled [censored] [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] not ess and a few other spelling typos. But most important, It must be real easy for some of you guys to sit in the stands or stand on the street corner and critique coaches, when probably 90%, actually have no clue what is really going on in a ballgame, not to mention the time and effort coaches spend with each individual player, not only on the field, but off the field as well. It really upsets me when I read things like this and hear comments made in the stands. In my opinion, win or lose on the field, a winning team is made up of dedicated players and coaches and my hat is off to all the players and COACHING STAFF of PHS football.

Also, have you ever stopped to think how the families feel when they have to sit in the stands and listen to comments about their, husbands, sons and fathers. These people show real class when they down a coach in front of his 8 or 9 year old son and has him crying. ask steve collins about being spit on, ask the baseball coach who just resigned, ask the current boys and girls basketball coach, ask the baseball coach who went to nc, do you not wonder why people don't want to coach football at pound?? the community treats its coaches horribly....why?....because everybody thinks they know more than the coach does.

I have, and have personally witnessed some of the verbal abuse that goes on, and alot of the language is not at all appropriate for the children that are in the stands. Also, it seems to be very personal and 99% of the time not even related to the game itself. It is almost as if some of these people are jealous and upset they are not the ones coaching. <font color="red"> </font> The people yelling in the stands, as I said before, do not know what is going on most of the time. Where they get the so-called football knowledge, I'll never know. I know very little about the game and all the rules, but I feel quite superior to some of those who have a bigger mouth than heart.

Some random thoughts.

There has been a history of difficult relationships between some of the Pound coaches and the community. Both sides have been at fault.
A lot of people have taken issue with some elements of strategy this year and I feel that some are justified, some are not.
The basic problem Pound has this year is numbers. The JV team has the bare minimum of kids to function. I do feel that the JV situation is more a case of numbers than coaching.
Kids are not going out for football at Pound. There are several reasons for this, but the main one to me is the inability to make the playoffs- especially last year. Pound needs to stimulate turnout by developing a program that has some playoff appearances. How is this to be done? I fear the situation will be aggravated by the drop of Haysi, etc. to Division 1 status.
I have not heard good things about next years schedule and fear the newly scheduled teams- with one exception- will make things worse.

Mack Shupe was mentioned in a previous post and while he may have left Wise on his own- I do not believe he was a happy camper.

I know very little about the game and all the rules, but I feel quite superior to some of those who have a bigger mouth than heart.

Who's Pound playing next year?

Heard they have added Letcher Central, Patrick Henry, John Battle, and Twin Valley. Don't know who the fifth opponent willl be. The first three schools are much bigger and should be on the upswing next year. I think Pound can be competitive against Twin Valley. Don't know what happened to the Cumberland schools. Heard several were upset about the Coeburn-Ervinton vote in redistricting. Will be interesting to see how many end up on LPD schedules next year.

Pound could actually win 3 of those games. IMO, they can compete with PH, TV, and Battle. When will next year's schedules be officially released.

I don't see Pound beating PH or John Battle next year unless they improve significantly from this year to the next. The reason I say this is because PH drilled J.J. Kelly (who beat Pound) and Battle blew out PH. Battle and PH will both return a lot of key players from this year so they should be above average next year and they are much largers schools than Pound which always helps.

sorta like when PV destroyed GC last year then was shelled by Burton, then GC shelled Burton. Cant compare teams unless its head up.

But another thing for all the people blaming the coaches it isn't all the coaches fault yeah I mean they may not be the best but they aren't terrible either you have to give them credit. Only maybe 4 of the football boys actually care and try to make something happen on Friday nights but the rest could care less and that IMO is the biggest problem.

they just arent very good. period. they had a much better line last year, they have guys playing out of position this year as they didint the previous year. They lost a lot. It happens.

No it's not all the coaches fault.But tell me why they let so many kids miss practice all the time and still let them play on Friday nights?Like I have said before (you play like you practice) You're wrong when you say only 4 of the boys want to work to make something happen on Friday nights.And who is at fault with the boys playing out of position?I give credit where credit is due....And they could start with some of the playcalls.

you know why? cause there is only about 30 kids on the team. Some are just happy to be there and that is on everyteam. If you dont have the numbers, you cant be as strict as you could if you do. Your goal is to be competitive as so the lynch mob doesnt get riled up. Well, regardless they are anyway. It goes back to if you had Pete Carrol there it wouldnt change 1 bit of anything, BI and Kelly havent done anything different since they went 0-10. They have gotten older and more expierenced.
