Area Basketball

Football is winding down, how about basketball? Any new coaches? Who will be the standout players? Which team in LPD, Cumberland and Blac Diamond are expected to dominate?

Gate City should be the class of the LPD.

The Cumberland will be a toss-up between Castlewood and Twin Springs, with Rye Cove very close behind and St Paul nipping at their heels.

The BDD should come down to Twin Valley or Haysi. Twin Valley is a bit of a question mark since they only returned one starter (Baldwin). Honaker should be right there in the mix as they played well down the stretch last season.

The lpd will be all gate city,Hackney will dominate that district... dont know much about anyone else.. burton might be ok.. powell valley doesnt have 2 much from what i have heard but im sure coach moore can turn that program around..


the cumberland will come down to ts and cwood as usual.. but the cove and st paul will look to spring a few upsets....the cumberland has the 4 best players in the region in my opinion in dockery, hood,justice and fisher.

the black diamond will come down to honaker and twin valley, hoanaker had a young team last year and a good jv team.. i dont know much about haysi but i know they lost viers and jones, twin vally will be decent with baldwin but other than that dont have much..

I look for Wise and Coeburn to be pretty good this year. Should be a good year for b-ball.

Wise is going to be awesome! We have done some serious globe-trotting to find some talent to stock our shelves. We want to put Twin Springs to shame baby! This year in addition to Korea's Win Wan Soon, we have added a Russian who is an awesome athlete, but he has a bad temper. What is his name again? Oh yeah...Popoff. Seriously folks: I do hope we have a decent team at Wise. We've had some lean years as of late.

Appy has a new old coach....Pat Jervis is taking his whistle back off the shelf and will be coaching the boys varsity team this season....

that was preety funny there indian .. but i think u had a exchange student and a transfer both in your starting lineup there last year...i wish the best for coach mcamis in wise..

Had to rib at you all-since I hear so much whining. We have replaced our graduated transfer with another one BTW

no...twin springs is the only school to ever have foreign exchange kids play ball...gate city is the only school that holds back

gate city is still number one in both boys and girls until someone knocks them off... i look for the p.v. boys to have a good year.

I don't know if Hackney will "dominate" the district, but if teams want to load up to stop Jaymie then that would be fine with Anderson, Salyer, or Johnson. One thing to remember is that GC is still relatively young with only one Sr. who is currently injured. One thing for sure, with Oak Hill Red, Dobyns-Bennett, South, Lee, and the Arby's Classic they should be more than ready when LPD play begins [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

yeah gc will be a good team.. salyers is a good shooter.. he killed us last year.. hit some big time shots.....who is the johnson kid... thats a preety good non district schedule ... i hope ts and gc can play again in the region..

What does TS's OOD schedule look like this year? I havent seen RCs but I imagine they will be in the Vol tourney again.

Ts will be in the arbys again this year and they play central... i also think that we play powell valley...

What about Powell Valley??

Ya think they will be much improved with Zack Moore as the coach?

maybe not this year, but in the long run he'll have them in the right direction

As usual, the teams in our area are garbage, always have been and always will.

I don't think RC is in the Vol Tourny this year.
I think they are only in the Coal Classic.

I need a schedule VTgal. With what Indian09 said, it looks like the Coal Classic is back up to snuff. Will the RC girls be playing in it also?

I may have to swing by after work to catch a few games.

RC Girls are in the Coal Classic this year too. They opted to not be in the TN High Tourny, mainly because last year, the girls had too long of a break during Christmas without a game. The TN High Tourny is at the beginning of the season.
