The ridiculous view of motivation
If someone posting on a message board that a team might play with you, could beat you is trash talking, then first off, I think we're all guilty of trash talking and second off, if supposed trash talking is what it takes to motivate your team to win, you're probably in trouble later on. What are you going to do later when you start up in the playoffs and can't find the message board from the schools you're playing, lose because nobody is motivating you.
There is a huge difference between saying something, even picking against a team, than trash talking. If Norton was running a score up due to something said on a message board, then shoot, wait some of you predicted Burton so bad and trash talked Clintwood, maybe Clintwood should take that personally and try to embarass or hurt Burton. Anybody seeing the point? Probably not because its more fun to try and act like there is some disrespect going. The Clintwood staff and players and actually the Norton staff and players have a pretty good respect for the other program. Coach Adams is no doubt going to work with his team on this game like he does every other game, preparing the same, focusing on the fact that Clintwood has improved and needs/wants the win. Right now, the old if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Coach Mullins is no doubt going work with his team on this game like he does every game, preparing the same, focusing on the fact that Norton is undefeated and wants to keep winning. His team knows they are the underdogs and have to step it up quite a bit to win. Is either coach thinking the other team is going to lay down? Heck no. Is a player on either team thinking the other teams players are going to lay down? Heck no. Are players from either team concerned what a bunch of people who aren't on the field predict, one way or the other? They sure shouldn't be. If it takes some people from Clintwood saying that Clintwood could play with them to motivate Burton, does it make them lazy when the majority say that they should roll over Clintwood? I mean you can't have it one way and not the other people. If talk can motivate you, it sure can make you lazy too and turning it around, wouldn't all the talk of blowouts motivate Clintwood or does anti-talk just work for Burton and not for another team? Heck does all the talk from some people how Clinwood wouldn't play with them , make them lazy? Again, talk can't just work one way. Its funny, noticed that over the years how people try to use comments like that. For example GCBrickBoy says "we'll beat PV by 35 this year they arent that good". PVRooster head says "Oh you're motivating PV with those comments, hahahah" Of course PVRooster forgets that they posted earlier in the day that PV should beat GC handily. Don't think they that those comments from them could just as easily be turned about GCBrickBoy as comments to motivate GC? Of course not, because they end up so closed off in their thinking, they can't see the other side of it.
Hey if Burrhead posting Clintwood can win or Greencrest sayings its just Burton motivates Norton, more power to them. I guess the predictions of Burton by 35 or whatever or the comments about starting offenses can't score on Burton motivates Clintwood. What, you mean it can work both ways! Like was said, the comments on here 95% of the time are from people not in the game, and if the comments are used to motivate a team, its normally a bunch of us old timers going up to them and saying "they're talking a bunch of trash about you on the forum"...and most of the kids as soon as wander off go "big freaking deal, you guys who aren't involved keep talking, we'll play football"

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
What is really ridiculous here, Rocket, is the pretense of you as a moderator being even remotely impartial here when it comes to any discussion regarding Clintwood.
If you could take off your "green shaded" glasses for just a minute and think like a moderator instead of a stat man for the Clintwood team, consider what has been said.
Here's a few of the things Greencrest has said about Norton... (1) it's just Norton, ie. there's nothing special about them (despite the fact that they are undefeated), (2) it's just a team Clintwood can beat 8 out of 10 times, (3) the only team Norton has beat is Appy (I guess Powell Valley just fell off the face of the earth) and let's not forget (4) they're just 3-time state losers.
OK now is this worse than other stuff that has been said about other teams on here? Absolutely not. Is it disrespectful of Norton and what they've accomplished this year? I think so, thats just my opinion and maybe that of a few others. Is what he said trash talk? You're [censored] straight it is.
Call it what you want Rocket, but it's trash talk. It doesn't matter whether it comes from Powell Valley, Gate City, Norton, or even yes Clintwood.
As far as whether anything said here would motivate either Norton or Clintwood, I don't know. I don't know if anyone from the Norton coaching staff read or even care about what is written on this board.
Now we can disagree, and thats ok. [censored] you can even ban me from this discussion board for having a dissenting opinion (two of the three moderators are from Clintwood so why not). Ironlung and Burrhead can even call me names if it makes them feel better. But, in the end, Rocket, you have your opinions, and I have mine. But rest assured, if I see bull[censored], I'm gonna call it as it see it. I don't care if it is colored green.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
I just think if you can give your ignorant opinions, I can give some of my ignorant opinions. You shouldn't classify the majority of Clintwood fans as classless and unsportsmanlike. I'll rub it in your face, and if you can't take it just grin and bear it.
-
Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
Burrhead, I have no problem with you giving your opinions, ignorant or otherwise.
My experience with the Clintwood fans has been exactly as I stated and pretty much everything posted on here reinforces that.
Make all the insults and call me all the names you want, I wouldn't expect anything less from one of Clintwood's long-time fans.
Good luck Friday.

I don't mind expressing opinions. I don't mind if you don't like a town, team, person. If you look at this p.o.s.'s posts, out of the 90, 90% of them are ripping either CW's team or town. It shows the mental capacity of this fool to categorize a whole town or communtiy out of something he "says" he's experienced with a "fan" before. Plus, he's a lying p.o.s. who's too much a coward to actually say where he's from. If I were the community he's from, I wouldn't want him devulging that either. I've sat back since this piece of garbage registered, let him express his "opinion". I won't do it any more though. If he has an opinion, that's fine. All he does though is take low class shots at any oportunity he has. I can act just as juvenile.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
Classy, Ironlung.
Let's review the rules of sportsmanship at Clintwood one more time.
(1) Never admit the other team is better
(2) Even if they beat you, don't concede defeat unless you absolutely have to, and
(3) If all else fails, just remind them of what you did 30 years ago and hope they don't know the difference.
I think you may have added a couple... if someone disagrees with you (4) insult them or call them names, and (5) threaten them to get your point across.
Clintwood has been many things over the years, Ironlung, but thugs is not one of them. LOL Good job at lowering the bar.

Thanks, and go to hell you lying coward p.o.s. I'm not calling you anything that your own mother wouldn't agree with.
BTW...the invitation still stands and is open anytime. To disprove your pathetic 1,2,3 garbage that you just put on here, please notice the CW/JIB thread where I stated that CW would lose to JIB. Haysi is better, PV is better, Appy is better. Also, go back to the CW/Haysi thread like I said yesterday and look at the 10+ CW posters that said that Haysi was a much better team, the score wasn't even as close as it looked, the score could have been much worse if Colley hadn't called off the dogs. You're a big man behind your little monitor lying about where you're from. It's nothing to do with being thugish either. I don't drink, don't smoke, never been in trouble with the law other than a speeding ticket. I don't like sniping attacks by a liar against myself, friends, or community. If you do that, and I can get my hands on you, your asss will pay. Take it for what you want. Just know that everytime you pull this [censored] on here, I will be here to remind everyone what a lying, coward, p.o.s. you are.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
Guys this has gone too far already and needs to stop.
No matter how you might feel about one team or another or even each other, there is nothing that justifies this kind of behavior and that goes for everyone involved.
It's time to start acting like adults and stop the insults, threats, and cheap shots.

Clintwood is not getting the respect they deserve this year from some people on here.I think if they want it bad enough Clintwood might just win.And I wouldn't care to see it myself.
-
Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
Yes, it does. That why it shouldn't have been started. It should have been stopped months ago. The only reason it wasn't was because the "classless thugs" from Clintwood bit their tongues and didn't say anything.
-
Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
I think CW is getting the respect they've deserved. They are a middle of the pack team who at times plays like a last placed team. JIB will win the game Friday, I just hope CW plays well.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
There's been plenty of disrespect going around for both teams. It shouldnt' be this way.
Clintwood could win this game. I'd like to see it too. Then again, Norton may come out and roll over them.

Yeah they beat us last year 6 to 0 in a slobber knocker of a ball game against probably the worst Clinwtood team in at least 5 years. They beat the worst PV team that there has been in probably 20 years. Woopty freakin doo. Not impressed. I apologize for not being impressed with Norton. It might just be pride talking, but thats how I feel about it. Honest opinions, disrespect or not, take it however you want to.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
UTVol, first off, I wont ban you for your opinion. How exactly is my view on something being said 'motivational' being Green shaded? I think thats ridiculous no matter who does it, has nothing to do with Green. Like I said, it would be just as ridiculous if Clintwood was motivated because of you saying that Burton would win handily. Talk is cheap, and if anybody is motivated by something on this board, they need to be examined. What are they going to do later in the playoffs, go patrol Fog River community board, or probably have people like yourself who probably post on the local board as one person, then gripe about it as the other team. You know, for someone who doesn't have any ties to the area, you sure seem to know an awful lot about it.
Again, Haysi beat Clintwood badly. Appy beat us badly. Can't undo that. The past is the past, but its funny how you seem to want to rip into Clintwood about their past and their fans, when last I heard when there used to be a sportsmanship trophy that Clintwood used to get it quite regularly. We've got our bad fans, like anybody else, but most of the time, our fans are generally decent people.
You're right, 2 mods of this board from Clintwood, both put on by a person from Powell Valley because we were able to not just stick the Clintwood colored glasses on. Its funny, I stick up for Burrhead on here and I'm looking out for our own, but to him half the time I pick on him because he's from Clintwood, its all about perspective.
Hey, as far as I know, pretty much everybody has respect for the Burton team, how can you not? Greencrest said its just Burton....well is it not just Burton? I mean if you actually read the board and not just try to snipe Clintwood, people from every school have said this is not a great year for the district. Burton is IMO the class, even though in pre-season PV was picked, but you have had people from all over the area talking about how difficult time they will have winning state. I haven't heard anybody talk about one of the D2 teams winning state, or even being predicted since early. Hey I hope Burton does win the state, and if they beat Clintwood, at least we are beaten by a state championship caliber team. If we were to somehow beat them, and they won state, hey we beat a state championship-caliber team, even better.
I'll agree that Ironlung went a bit overboard, but to his credit, he doesn't hide anything, and he is generally IMO respected on the board because there is no snipeing from him. Outside of your UTVol name, you show or have shown or claimed no support to anybody ( and I don't think you have made a comment about them even *lol*), I looked back, I think you have made less than double digit posts that wasn't a dig or an attack on Clintwood, and for again for someone who has no ties, you sure do seem to know an awful lot about them. Its easy to sit here and attack and be anonymous isn't it.
Go ahead and talk about me and a bias, I admit my bias. That being said, I dont believe you'll find me snipeing Norton, I try to be pretty complimentary about most teams. I'm a lot more prone to gripe about fans than I am teams.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
well, this really is getting ridiculous and pointless. I tried to lighten it up quickly but thats obviously not going to happen. I will say this, besides one quarterback who was a coaches son who will remain nameless who i will not say called me a POS little [censored] after me drilling him my junior year. i have never had a problem with anyone at all from clintwood, players fans or anything. they were the classiest bunch i have ever played against in football. without a doubt no questions asked. fans who will say good game to you as you are going back to the bus and players who you can tell are sincere in saying good game and congratulating you on a good game are few and far between. i always enjoyed playing them. (except when honaker reffed)
-
Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
i'll have to agree with Dawgface on this one
i've always respected the Greenwave program, never had any issues with them, and as he said, great fans, and players
me and duran always had our mouths goin on the field at each other, but after the game was over, we would talk like nothing happened, just part of the game..
and i remember walkin off the field and the fans would always say nice things to you, never seen anything "bad" go down over there
-
Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
Dawgface, lots of people from Clintwood probably said worse about him at times [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
Its not a particular thing, I guess I'm just tired of seeing people afraid to post an opinion, be it a bit smart or completely classy for things attempted to be turned around. Like Burrhead said, last week nobody from GC or PV hardly posted and in normal years, that game is a pick-fest but the programs, as much as they like giving it to each other, had to have mutual respect. We've gotten away from being able to give and take a bit of good natured or even not so good natured ribbing. To quote Robert D. Rayford (or however his name is spelled), we're the United States of the Offended.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
One reason for the lack on the PV / GC threads. GC is glad to be moving on.
Notice you had very little comments from any GC posters.
I know some will be glad to see GC exit the LPD. One reason they just can't compete with them at all.
But if you look at the one's who post and make good post you have had none almost all year from the GC faithful.
Who usually add insightful post.
There is a few that still post here like GC1 a good fellar and a few others but many have exited.
Observer77, broady, GC Quincy, WildBill etc etc.
As far as this with CW and Burton. Guess we will see come Friday night.
Like i would say. Come Friday night. I am a Dawg i hope we go to GC and take care of business. And i am sure those from GC feel the same way. They hope GC takes care of business and comes away with a W.
Hope it's a good game myself and in the end i hope we win.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
In no way whatsoever am I condoning the cheap shots UTVOL has taken at Clintwood, but I also think Ironlung went way over the line in the way he reacted, and I told him that too. In all fairness, if the same comments were made on other discussion boards, I truly believe he would be been at least suspended if not banned. I don't know Ironlung and have no personal issue with him at all, but there is a right and wrong way to do things.
You might assess that some are just too easily offended on here, but it goes both ways. It was just a week or so ago that I got an email from the moderators to the effect of 'we want to get some quality back in this forum and we need everyone's help.' It's just my opinion, but if you really want quality back in the forum, it has to start with mutual respect between schools and their fans.

Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
In a manner, you're right.
However, who do you give rope to, someone who has been on for years and contributed, been respectful of other programs/users or someone who has joined recently and done nothing but snipe? The little fly-by-night names who come on with no purpose but to stir things up are difficult to give much rope to and Ironlung was warned, something I don't think I've ever had to do before to him, and he's been on about as long as there has been a board. I don't fault a long time user for sometimes getting frustrated.
By the same token, there was shots taken at me, and in most boards, the surest and easiest way to get banned is what, attack/question a mod or admin. I didn't ban/suspend for that either.
-
Re: The ridiculous view of motivation
I don't think it's an issue of giving rope to either person. From my experience, if someone truly is just joining to create some drama, they will disappear soon enough. Now if the Vol stays around and contributes to the forum, I would say its not just a one-dimensional agenda and maybe he just legitimately dislikes Clintwood fans.
To some extent, I can relate to having issues with some of our schools' fans. While not offended, I have become annoyed with the way some act at games. And things that might annoy me might not bother someone else. I used to go to a lot of basketball games, and nothing irritates me more than fans who sit up in the stands and yell at the refs. I think it's ridiculous and pointless yet I've seen it in every school in our area.
My views on being a moderator and being impartial are definitely different from your's, Rocket. I'm certainly glad I'm not in your place.

Hey at no time did I say I wanted anyone banned from this board! I don't. I said the comments went over the line, and it doesn't matter who makes them or what caused it. If you want to keep the forum from turning into an online version of a Jerry Springer sports show, there are lines you don't cross.
You can get upset with me if you want to, but it's kind of hypocritical to ask the forum users for help in improving the forum and then making an excuse when someone goes on a tirade and tells people to "go to hell."
