Been searching for records on the Region D basketball (boys) championships.
Who has won the championships in the last 10 years?
From the VHSL website, it looks like...
2006 - Twin Valley (State Runner-up)
2005 - Twin Springs (State Runner-up)
2004 - Twin Springs
2003 - Gate City
2002 - Council (?)
2001 - Council (State Championship)
2000 - Council (State Runner-up)
1999 - Pound (State Runner-up)
Can anyone verify or fill in the blanks from 1996-1999?
While talking about the Region D Championship where is it played this year? Also, where is the LPD Tournament?

1996 - Council?
1997 - Norton (or PV)?
1998 - no idea

RD tourney should be at Castlewood this year.
I think the Region D will go to Castlewood this year and Coeburn should be hosting the LPD.

I believe it was Norton in 97, and maybe Haysi in 98? Not very sure about that though.
Haysi in 98 100% sure.
Haysi won it in '98, thought they won it in '97 too?
Didn't Honaker beat Council for the title in '02?
Honaker did beat Council in 02.
That is right because Council went to Radford and won, and Honaker beat George Wythe I believe at Castlewood. Both lost in the state semis.
I think Council played Radford at VPI. Or perhaps that was the Region D runner-up the year before. I remember someone was playing in Blacksburg and I thought about going as I was staying in Wytheville that weekend playing Draper Valley.

I hear so much about how bad the LPD is in basketball compared to the other districts. But, what stands out to me is how competitive Region D has been. When you consider that the Region has had a team in 4 of the last 8 state championship games and has one state championship team, I'd say the Region has been well represented.
Haysi was the 97 Champs, they beat Burton by a good 30 after Burton beat TS in the epic.
The Cumberland District, notably Twin Springs, has dominated the Region D.
There's a lot of speculation that this is the year that Castlewood will beat TS for the district championship. Castlewood plays very good ball, but not sure they can beat TS in Dockery's senior year.
I know that TS is playing in some benefit games and the Arby's Classic. What does Castlewood's pre-season schedule look like? Which tourney(s) will they be in?
Cwood is playing in a tournament somewhere in NC I think. At least that is what the CD schedule in last weeks KPT basketball edition said.
They played at Radford U, just down the street from Radford HS.
Castlewood will be playing in Boone, NC. I am not sure who the tourny is affiliated with. It should be a dogfight between RC, CW, and TS all once again this year, and SP should make some noise. The CD will be tough.

Coach Williams said it best in the Kingsport paper last week.. "It's futile to predict, with rosters changing in January." Wait until the rosters are complete then predict it...
