Anyone know of any locally companies that sell them and can do repairs if needed.
Need to find something that is rugged and can interface with a computer, to upload and download information to and from.
Like to find a local company if possible. If you know of anyone let me know.
I have a Garmin Street Pilot that I use almost every day. Not sure who can work on one, but most every electronics store sell them. I did a lot of research online comparing brands and pricing. I ended up ordering mine from Wal Mart. It has totally spoiled me. I very seldom have to use a map anymore [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
if you don't want to order it wal-mart carries them in store in electronics. they are in the cases at the end of the MP3 players

So if we need repairs or replacements it can be easily done. I'll check with wal-mart. I had checked with a few places in Kingsport and their repair and maintenance fee was unreal.
I doubt if you would want to have one repaired. Probably be less expensive to but a new one. When I first started looking into a GPS system I was interested in a TomTom. After reading various reviews, I decided on the Garmin, and at about half the cost. I paid about $400, compared to $800 for a TomTom. The way I looked at it, if the Garmin only lasted a year and quit it cost me a little over $30 a month. Well worth the money as much as I use it.

How are you gonna be needing to use it. I sell different ones and can get replacements usually on a next day time frame if not in store, as far as repair goes I see it being more practical to get a replacement or buy a new one if the warranty is out. If you are using it for work and most likely will be needing it daily repair would not be practical since most would take 1-2 weeks and your without anything and unable to work as efficiently.
Probably just be used locally to help with finding certain areas. It's a huge help esp. when you have new people, and don't get a lot of time, to spend with them in the field work. Finding some of the sites is some of their biggest concern. Because some of them you may not go to but once every 4-5 months. In some of these places it's hard for me not to drive by the turn offs or forget the 911 address.
It's a whole lot less time consuming if you can just punch it in and be on your way.
One problem i have ran into was some times on some GPS models you needed the longitude and latitude. Some we experimented with wouldn't zero in on the location right without that? A friend of mine had the same problem with one where they work. I have no real idea what the deal was on that.
Biggest thing about durability is being kept in a work truck most of the time. You know how that is. Getting beat around.
The only thing I punch into mine is the address. If you are using it to find places out in the middle of nowhere you may need a different kind of system.

I think it was just not a known or valid address and it wouldn't take? Need more information.
Like to find something just for the local address stuff. I can do the one's that won't come up. I think it's two or three and it get anyone close.
Just need to find a good reliable system that wont' need a lot of care. One that can be handled roughly.
I have a Garmin IV and I like it very much. It's great as a hand-held, and can be dash-mounted and plugged in to a car adapter.
It was designed to be able to take a beating. I've had it for maybe 3-4 years so far (I think it's been upgraded to the V or VI now).
That line in general is a good one. I'd recommend it.

What kind of cost are you looking at elp6n for the brand your talking about.
I'd like to try to get the people i work for, to include this in their spending, for the next few months.
To me it would save us a tremendous amount of time and in the long run probably pay for itself.
