do they want people to leave early or somethin
I'll be out the door after the boys game, unless a miracle happens and PV ends up in the girls game.
I think that in fairness to the girls, they should get some shots at playing the late games. I think during the season the boys and girls should alternate playing the first game.
Now I'll admit I'd rather watch a boys game over the girls game as a spectator, but if they're going to play the girls and boys during the same season, the girls should have some games played 2nd.
which genius came up with this idea
To me they should play them on different nights, but thats just me. I'd rather watch JV boys than varsity girls.
It depends on where your at. I might be able to understand that at PV. I don't think Smith has a whole lot to work with, and the girls there don't tend to work too much on their game I am afraid.
In KY they have a rule that the girls get so many "primetime" games a season
So will the Region D finals be on a Friday night this year?? I was thinking it was normally on Saturday night.
It depends on which teams are playing. Yeah the boys games usually are at a faster pace and more athletic but alot of girls teams are more fundamental and most of them are rougher and more emotional (beleive me I know). They should take each night on a case by case basis and put the better game based on who their playing and what is at stake. I've had many a night officiating where the girls game was exciting and close and the boys game dull and a blow out. This friday night for example at Va. High it would make sense to have the boys game first that doesn't mean anything towards the final standings and the girls game second that has alot riding on it. If you want to see a girls basketball game where they get up and down the court and play good basketball, this is the one to watch.
Rougher? Now that's funny!
By rougher I mean the slapping and pushing while being out of control. When their is a loose ball girls can really go at it. Two girls going after a loose ball is like being in the middle of a cat fight, man they get pissed.
From what I heard, Clintwood girls coach suggested it and Robin Dotson backed it up. I don't think that the boys coaches will mind. This year probably won't be a problem since GC's boys and girls should both be in the finals. If Kelly or Clintwood's boys and girls both are in the finals, then you might have a decent crowd for the girls game.
even with slapping and all, it's not half as rough as a guy's game
When does the tournament begin and where?
If the information in the Coalfield Progress is correct, the tournament starts with boys games on Monday and girls games on Tuesday. The #1 and #2 seeds host the first games.
High School Boys
Lonesome Pine District Tournament
(at Gate City)
#4 seed vs. #5 seed
Gate City vs. #8 seed
(at #2 seed)
#3 seed vs. #6 seed
#2 seed vs. #7 seed
Of course, standings may change before next week but based on the current standings for boys it would be:
Gate City High School
JJ Kelly vs Pound
Gate City vs Appalachia
JI Burton High School
Powell Valley vs Clintwood
JI Burton vs Coeburn

Thats obsurd that Pound and Kelly have to go to Gate City to play a ball game, thank goodness this is the last time.
Id rather watch paint dry on a cold winters day as watch a girls game at anything.
That's you LPD principals making the decisions.
After the first round is played, where is the rest of the tournament being held?
Coeburn.
Knoxville most likely.
Most of the girls in the LPD play like "girls". Gate City's girls and one other team they played this year play a fast paced game. I do agree that if a team plays like most I have seen in the LPD....boring! No offense!

Yep cry a river....Whats absurd, is obsurd even a word?, is that Gate City has won the District Title 6 years in a row and has NEVER hosted an LPD tourney. Now THAT in my opinion is absurd.
The last time it was in Coeburn, I was in 8th grade. That was 8 years ago.
Better hope that road through Wadlow Gap gets finished before football season or its gonna be another rough year. I hadnt seen people so happy to sit on an opposing teams stands as I did this year, maybe its to hide the shame.
Gate City atheletics, the Best Tennessee has to offer.
You are now officially, the biggest cry baby on this forum yet. Congratulations.
you forgot about the gate city posters (minus Jason)
I don't see anyone from Gate City crying over travel. We've been on the road plenty before. If you don't finish in the top 2 in the district, you travel. Plain and simple. Should GC apologize for winning the district just because you don't want to drive 30-45 minutes to watch a game?
Did i say anyone from Gate City was crying about travel?? Exactly, i didn't.
You just said that one of the posters was one of the biggest crybabies that this board has seen, and i simply stated that the gate city posters on here are usually the same way about everything. And if you guys get proven wrong, you will argue that you can squeeze water out of a rock to try and make yourself sound right. Most everyone on this forum knows it queercy.
Wow name calling on a message board. How brave and original.
Yep, we have sooo many TN kids playing ball at GC. Pales in comparison to the several hundred out of county kids in Wise County schools huh? I think Wise Co. itself reported over 600 in an article some months ago. But hey, keep pointing at others while you are doing worse eh? And why should GC fans be ashamed? They have the highest winning percentage of ANY school in VA. They had a rough year but everyone does from time to time. Now let's get back to the topic at hand....basketball. Or do you not have anything to crow about except crying over some travel time?
Tennessee players isn't just the problem. How many 21, 22 and 23 year olds have the birth certificates been faked for? That's a question that's been floating around for years!
out of county, out of State, a little difference there.
What if you made all the kids go where they lived?
I think it was alluded to that there were also kids from KY attending Wise County schools. Is this not correct? And is KY not another state?
Now that is one hadn't heard before, real origional! You think that up with your squirrel brain? Oh, I forgot. GC is the only school to have a kid hold back.
No GC isn't the only school to have hold backs but they are the only school to have college and university football programs to come recruiting in seventh grade when the kid has a full beard. Oh or is that the fact the Scott County boys just grow bigger there than north of US23?

Ahh Quice, it still gaulds em that while a couple of the schools who returned a nucleus of their teams this past year talked about winning the state and some of their fans more or less assured it , the fact is that Gate City is the only one who could bring one back while we were in the LPD and they can't stand the fact that Gate City has been the most successful program during their stint in the LPD. So name calling is all they've got to put in their Trophy Case
Or is it just because you like to belittle a school because you're jealous? Jealousy will eat you alive young man, let it go....let it go!
