I just read on the VHSL site that the games have been moved to VA. High.
NO.....playing at Castlewood time will be 2pm & 3:45pm Saturday.
From the website...

GATE CITY VS. RADFORD MOVED TO VIRGINIA HIGH!!!!!
Floyd vs. J.J. Kelly moved to Sat., March 3, 7:00 p.m.
last updated 2/28/07 - 1:00 p.m.
I know what it says....
This just from Va High AD ... I called him (Barry Reed) Gate City game has been moved to Va High @ 2pm!
Virginia High will play at 4pm at John Battle!
Game or games? I see on the link that the girls game has been moved, but on their website the boys bracket link is not working. Could it be that only the girls game has been moved and the boys game will remain at Castlewood?
So I call GC and they say yes it has been moved but let me confirm and then comes back saying they are still talking...I can't really say at this time, please call back! UNREAL!
Someone from up the road may have complained that GC was doing a double header knowing the HUGE crowd they would have to face!

More than likely that complaining would come from Wytheville if I was a betting man. I know the people who are involved with Radford athletics and I can't imagine them having a problem with playing game one of a doubleheader.
Norm being the AD at Radford, I don't see him complaining either.
I agree, and more then likely that Colobro and the AD from GW are going at it right about now! haha

Game or games?
[/ QUOTE ]The girls game is at VA HIGH according to Coach Reed per the phone call.
I bet the boys game is the one being talked about...I would not put it past them to have another change. This is the 2nd change in venue really this week.
Another change would be the 3rd this week!
Still talking about the move for both boys and girls - nothing confirmed yet no matter what vhsl.org says
For whatever reason, it shows both GC boys and girls games being moved to Virginia High now:

Wonder why they were both moved from Castlewood to Virginia High - according to the VHSL website?
I have seen that website too but I have good info that the powers that be are still talking.
Could very well change again but as of 1:00 PM today (Feb 28th) It is at Va High
GC should tell GW that they can show up at VA High or anywhere else they choose, but they will be at Castlewood. The region winner should get to choose without outside pressure.
I was always under the impression that the region champion had the right to play the substate at any neutral facility within its respective region which has adequate capacity and isn't more distant than the champions school. If that's so, I would think GC would desire to play at Castlewood since they've already played three recent games there. Maybe they should tell GW to stuff it.
I figured it would be the VHSL who would insist on two separate games so it could make more $$$$$!
Straight from the boss at GC - both games at Va Hi Saturday girls at 200 boys at 345
That is correct as of right now. Both games at VH Saturday. This means you win the contest but other parties can tell you where you have to have your party.

I agree, the GW coach is the one crying to his buddy at the VHSL.

Looks like the games have been moved...I truly do not understand how this can happen.

It happened because the GW coach wanted it moved. The VHSL response to me was that "Castlewood isn't large enough to host a state game" I told her it was plenty big enough year before alst for TS!

Castlewood isn't Big Enough-Bull!!! Looks like VHSL would be more "sensitive" to our Region considering the outcome of the State Football Game!! Here we go again!
Whatta bunch of crap! Another example of the VH$L helping out someone else. You think that they'd accomodate us? Not hardly.
GROUP A STATE QUARTERFINAL BASKETBALL SITE AND DATE CHANGES
Accommodations made in anticipation of large crowds
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Joyce Sisson,
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA ? The Group A girls and boys basketball quarterfinal match-ups originally scheduled to take place at Castlewood High School on Saturday March 3 at 2:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. will instead take place at Virginia High School, game day and time unchanged. For the girls game, Gate City will play Radford and for the boys game, Gate City will play George Wythe.
High pre-game ticket sales prompted VHSL Assistant Director Joyce Sisson to make this change. "With a 2,500 seat gymnasium, Virginia is better equipped to handle the number of spectators that are expected to attend."
HAHA! When you Google "castlewood high school virginia gym capacity", the first link made available has this information given:
Russell County Public Schools Castlewood High School has an enrollment of 482 students in grades 8-12. ... Academic Team; New gym completed in 1994 (seating capacity of 2582) ...

Sounds as if to me there's more to it than is being spoke about!
I wonder if GW would rather play at Va. High because of the larger floor(college deminsions 94FT). To me the larger floor would benifit GW because they like to run and spread out which would make it more difficult for GC that play's hard nosed defense and like's to trap. Maybe they will get tired and it will bite them in the arse!
Personally, I don't think it will benefit George Wythe to play at Virginia High's gym. I have my reasons for thinking that, I guess we'll just have to see come Saturday!
I talked to more people after work. They told me that GW had already sold all their tickets and that GC had already sold most of their tickets! Not counting the Radford tickets
They were close to the seating compacity of Castlewood.
The gym at Castlewood would not seat everyone as we all know after the REGION D tournament. Therefore moving the game to VA HIGH, a larger facility and better seating.
It had nothing to do with another team whinning about where the game was to be played.
The gym at Castle wood does not seat more then 1,800 is what I was told today and Va High seats 2,500
I was at the games this weekend at Castelwood and that gym is much smaller then Va High. Everyone will have their own individual seat at VA HIGH as well, much more comfortable!
This is just another instance of the VHSL being unfair to a team from this area (most recently Burton). I remember a similar thing almost happened to GC in football when they played John Handly in a state championship gate. John Handly and the VHSL tried to pressure GC to change the location because GC's facilities were not up to their standards.
The word is that GW has a large student section. I hope everyone that can will go and support GC. I know we all don't always like each other, but there are certain times when we should support each other. I know I will be there.
The George Wythe coach has been trying since Monday, when Castlewood was announced, to have the game moved to VA High.
Well orginally Colobro wanted Va High is what I was told, but Vermillion wanted Castelwood.
It's a court..who cares anymore...let's enjoy these games!
Since it has been moved to VA High I may try to go. Just wondering if there will be tickets available at the gate? Have always enjoyed watching games at VA High- great venue.

Who gives a S$!t what Colobro wanted? He's not the basketball coach. Maybe he should let Coach V pick where he plays football! The difference is having the priviledge of picking the site, sorta one of the benefits of winning the Region. And the difference? You've played 3 games one one court the week before and the other your players have never stepped foot on. So you figure the difference.

It was plenty big for the small crowd that GW brought in 04. They barely had enough to fill half of the visitor's section at Castlewood.
I would be surprised if it's sold out. I have never seen it completely full for anything.

The first thing the AD should do is say " ok coach, where do you want your guys playing?". End of story.
Maybe the AD in 94 should have moved the State Championship game to ETSU minidome to accomodate John Handley like they wanted instead of playing on that old muddy Legion Field.
Considering that we (GC) have both the Boys & the Girls playing at the same place then we GC fans need to give the other fans a taste of some real GC hospitality plus show the teams we support them 100%. I have feeling, it will be like a football game ---packing in, 2 hours before game starts.
Crank it up Big Blue----
If only we could truck in some snow and ice and put it in their seats.
