Tennessee got a good draw. Don't know much about Long Beach State but as long as the Vols play well (read Chism and Chris 'James' Lofton*) they should advance.
Interesting matchup in the second round with Virginia. UT matches up well. Singletary vs Lofton.
Don't understand why a 20-11 Georgia Tech team that lost their opening round ACC tourney game gets in while a 20-12 Mississippi team that won their division and made it to the SEC semifinals gets left out.
SEC should have gotten 6 teams in.
Because the ACC is abetter conference, that's why. That potential UT/VA should be a good one.
I also think that GT had 8 wins against the top 50 in the RPI. Plus the win against Memphis early in the year was huge for the ramblin wreck.

I think Tech got high of seed. I too agree how someone wins their division and not gets in. Oh well, Florida is going to win it again anyway, so it really doesnt matter.

SEC as a basketball conference is weaker than the ACC. Open your eyes and face the facts.
Its all an opinion SEC guys are always going to say the SEC is better and same for the ACC guys.

If I was putting money on one conference to come up with a national title, Id pick the Big 12. I believe that Kansas, TAMU, and Texas could all win it. The only team I really feel could win 6 in a row in the ACC is North Carolina. Same with the SEC, I think its Florida or bust.
The Big 10 always has the team that never comes through. Outside of Michigan State, I cant remember a national champ coming out of the Big 10 since Alford's Indiana team.
I dont have much confidence in the Pac 10 teams either. All of them are pretty flawed. Arizona and Oregon play terrible defense. Wassu cant score so its tough for them to win when they get behind. USC is pretty talented but lack interior play. UCLA is sorta like Gate City, they play lock down defense but they dont put the ball in the basket that well. Afflalo can only carry them so far. Collison isnt quite the player that Farmar was last year.
Memphis is sort of a wildcard.
Im guessing half the final four ends up being mediocre like last year before the team that truely deserves to win, ends up winning.(one of the powerhouses).
I wouldnt have alot of confidence in any of the conferences, it really only comes down to matchups but if I was a betting man, Id throw money on the big 3 of the big 12. Id personally like to see the Burnt Orange cut down the nets with the best player in the land getting his ring.
I agree on the Big 12, I think TAMU, Texas, or Kansas could all win it this year. I have a feeling that the winner of the UNC/Texas game might win it all.
but that would only mean your conference is top-heavy...top to bottom, no one matches the ACC
I can't see any ACC team besides UNC making it past the
sweet 16 and they'll have a tough time with Texas...
The ACC's teams are pretty good, but in my opinion not the level the ACC has been at in the past 7 or 8 years. I won't be surprised to see 2 or 3 ACC teams eliminated in the first round.
having a team go far in the tourney doesn't determine how strong your conference is
if we went by that logic, the Big West would be a power conference
or even worse...the CAA wouldve been one of the top 4 conferences in the nation last year
What does it matter if your conference is top heavy. In the end, nooone is going to remember that a conference had 7 bids, they are going to remember that they had 1 team in the sweet 16 or whatever as an example.
They will also remember if they had 2 in the final four ala the SEC last year.
thats my thoughts exactly. Outside of LSU, Florida, Mason, and UCLA, I dont really remember what teams from what conferences made it.
so if Southern Illinois or Winthrop win the whole thing, the MVC or Big South conferences are the best in the nation???

I never said that, I said the big 12 has the best chance of winning because they have 3 heavyweights. The acc has 1 heavyweight and 6 middleweights. The Big 10 got 6 in last year, had only 3 to make the round of 32, and none of them made the sweet 16. It sure as hell doesnt make them look like a good conference when that happens. Everyone knows that the major conferences have the best teams but if they arent winning games in the tournament, it doesnt make them look like they deserved to get over half the conference into the field.
As a fan of a team thats made the tournament 23 straight years, I dont give a rats arse about making it, its what you do once you get into it. If the Pac 10 has a bad tournament, everyone on here will be the first to let me know about it. The ncaa tournament doesnt measure the depth of your conference, but it will generally show that the powerhouses from certain conferences are better than the powerhouses from other conferences when comparing apples to apples.

first, big 12, UT, KU, and TAMU can all win it all.
second, big east, GU is flat out awesome, playing awesome at the right time. guard play wins titles, unless you are playing against jeff green and roy hibbert.
then its the big 10, consin and osu have talent, but both will choke, no big ten team in the final four.
then its the acc, carolinas there only hope, and carolina sucks inside, and they are in georgetowns bracket.

Surely thats not the best response you could have come up with. Where did I say that the ACC wasnt the best conference? I just dont believe their chances of cutting down the nets are as good as the big 12's, thats all I said.
And btw, the top 7 in the pac 10 would push the top 7 in the acc to the limit. Stanford is the 6th place team and beat your 2nd best team in their building. No I never said the Pac 10 was better nor did I say the big east or big 12 was better. Point blank, there is very little difference top to bottom between the top conferences.
even with all the bad luck and loss of stars, the big east is still good.
college basketbal is vastly approaching NFL-realm parity, and it doesnt always help the game.
Absolutely, although I think we all should feel lucky to see a guy like Durant be able to play at least one year of college ball. Hopefully they will be able to change that rule and make it a 2 year rule like the nfl has.
kevin durant is the best college player i have ever seen in my life, no exaggeration.
i can just imagine he is doing what kobe or lebron would have done in college.
this is the best class I have ever seen, the top five or six freshman this year could beat half of the nba teams.

Arthur isn't even the best freshman on his team. Collins is probably the seconds or third best freshman PG behind Augustine and Lawson.
