Great ACC?
Just 2 of the 7 teams left.
The lowly SEC already has 2 in the Sweet 16 with two more possible berths today. The only SEC loss has been by the team that shouldn't even have been in.
Now who was it that said that it didn't matter how many games the ACC teams won, all that mattered was that they got 7 in.
-
Re: Great ACC?
I probably agree that the ACC as a whole was stronger than the SEC this year. If LSU and Alabama had lived up to their expectations, I'd have given them the edge. The SEC East was the best division of any conference in the NCAA this year.

Re: Great ACC?
SEC still has 4 teams in 3 already in Sweet 16.
-
Re: Great ACC?
awesome...the ACC had 10 teams with 20 or more wins
-
Re: Great ACC?
What does 20 or more wins have to do anything? you have nothing to show for it!!!! I'd rather still be in the tournament than already sent home packing....
-
Re: Great ACC?
UK has the nations toughest schedule playing in the weak SEC.
-
Re: Great ACC?
Unless I'm mistaken, the SEC has the highest RPI of any conference.

Re: Great ACC?
ummm no...fact is look at that little #1 beside the ACC where it says "rank"
-
Re: Great ACC?
Fact is you're beloved Chokies are on the way home. Fact is the champion last year was from the SEC. You can be #1 all year long and not win a thing. Keep living with your paper champions.
-
Re: Great ACC?
I guess it depends on whose RPI figures you look at.

Re: Great ACC?
kenpom is the most widely used of the bunch
who cares who won the title last year that doesn't say squat about your conference
-
Re: Great ACC?
lol It does when your conference had the champion. Good Lord.
-
Re: Great ACC?
so it carries over to the next year??? good lord
so tell me...if SIU wins it all, the MVC was the best conference this year??
-
Re: Great ACC?
It was one of the ESPN pundits who said it a week or so ago. I think it was Digger Phelps. I guess he was looking at another ranking.
-
Re: Great ACC?
vthokie is a stupid jerk....tech has the highest RPI as long as RPI stands for Redneck [censored] Idiots

Re: Great ACC?
Kansas won the national title when the Big 12 was weak as water. UCLA did the same when the Pac-10 was so-so (Arizona had started the decline, Oregon was only decent). To say that a conference is the strongest because one of its schools wins the title is ludricous. So since Nebraska won National football titles, the Big 12-NOT THE SEC was the best in the land? Miami-Big East the strongest? USC-Pac 10? etc. I thought it was widely regarded that the SEC was the strongest football conference in the land You get my drift.

Re: Great ACC?
oh you can't use reason with some people
-
Re: Great ACC?
What defines a good conference?/
I think the conference with the best winning % in the tourny should receive some sort of award similar to bowl season.
-
Re: Great ACC?
then you'd have to define that as "the best conference that is top heavy"
when you're talking about conference strength you have to talk about the whole conference, not just your best team or teams
if we're only talking best teams then the Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big 12 are the only conferences worth anything, and that's not the case
-
Re: Great ACC?
I'll agree that the SEC is the best football conference, but the ACC is catching up.
I'll also agree that the ACC has been the best conference in past years, but not this year or last.
Anyone remember that an SEC at large eliminated the ACC champ last year?
-
Re: Great ACC?
I never said that. You don't receive an award for having the "best conference". That's a judgement call. You can look at several different ratings sites and get several different results.
-
Re: Great ACC?
Last time I checked there were 114 teams in D1 with 20 wins. I could barely stand to watch my own team this year and they won 20 games with a top 3 schedule, it doesnt really mean much.
You said they were the best conference, so if they are the best conference then why are they only going to have 1 team in the top 16 at years end. Sounds like alot of mediocre basketball to me. The pac 10 and SEC are putting 3 teams in the sweet 16 each. If youre one of the strongest conferences, it only makes sense to back it up when it comes time that the games actually mean something.
Sure the ACC is just fine and dandy at the big 10/acc challenge. Most teams play for March madness not November madness. That BIG win against Iowa will go down in history next to man landing on the moon.
-
Re: Great ACC?
for God's sake people when comparing conferences you have to look at the whole conference...the ACC won 80% of it's games, which no other conference did, it placed 7 teams in the tournament which no other conference did, the tournament is all about matchups as far as who gets put out when...thats logic is a big bunch of BS and is so flawed it's not worth arguing against
-
Re: Great ACC?
You put seven in and all but one are at the house after one weekend.
-
Re: Great ACC?
Getting there is all that matters, actually winning is meaningless.

Re: Great ACC?
have fun with your dilluted view of college basketball

Oklahoma was in the national title game with Kansas and Kanssas State was an elite 8 team. The Big 12 was the superior conference, you had King, Blaylock, and Grant, Danny Manning, and Mitch Richmond. Not to mention Missouri was as consistent as ever in those years.
Arizona didnt decline at that time, they lost in the first round that year basically as a result of a messy situation between Damon Stoudamire and the NCAA. A year later they were in the sweet 16 and the next year they won a national title. Oregon wasnt good at that time, not really sure where you got Oregon, but Stanford was good as was Arizona State.
-
Re: Great ACC?
then why are you on here arguing then. Shouldnt you be over on rivals studying all of the 3 star recruits that VT is getting?
Sure its all about matchups, but for a conference thats so superior which you said they were, then out of 7 matchups, how come they only won 1 matchup? Thats pretty pathetic. I told you there was 1 excellent team and I find it funny thats the only team left. You might want to admit that the SEC and Pac 10 are pretty equal. Who was the only team to beat UVA at home this year? Stanford, the 6th team in the pac 10. I promise you, Washington is alot better than the bottom 3 in your conference. Remember this, the pac 10 put 6 in but there are only 10 in the conference. Thats a better ratio than 7 out of 12. Boy those matchups sure hurt the pac 10. How was little ol Southern Cal gonna stop Kevin Durant. You might as well go kill yourself if the trojans knock off Carolina.

Re: Great ACC?
Both conferences (Big 12/Pac-10) were "top-heavy", something that folks on here have accused the ACC of being over the years.
What have the Colorados, Oregon States..etc consistantly accomplished?
If you have a league that has 12 teams, and 3-4 are good, does that make the league strong? Compare that to this year's ACC, which sent 7. Good debate though. The forum needs more of this.

Re: Great ACC?
This is in reply to Vthokie22, You said having a national champion in your conference doesnt matter? well having 10 teams win 20 games dont mean [censored] since the ACC has 1 team in the sweet sixteen. The point about Florida is that having the national champion in your conference helps it doesnt mean everything but its another reason the SEC is better.
