PV 4 Coeburn 2
Championship game tommorrow at 1:00 at Coeburn.. PV/GC
It must have been a good game.
pretty good . pv had lots of errors though. four in one inning!
Who were the umpires tonight?
Coeburn had more.. Our pitching was strong but errors and hits was downfall.Powell Valleys girls can hit the ball that is for sure. If Gate City would just not swing the bat at all those high balls, they would win. I hope it will be an interesting Championship game tomorrow.
Were you watching the same game I was? I didn't see Coeburn making errors. PV had too many errors tonight. At least Coeburns pitcher didn't have to endure one of PV's parents sitting behind home plate yelling out remarks about their pitching like PV did. Momma and Daddy Light was sitting directly behind home plate yelling out remarks about PV's pitcher saying things like "stand there she can't throw strikes, she can't hit the mitt". The Coeburn fans was yelling awful things to PV's coaches. They are the sorest losers I have ever seen in my life. Apparently they don't have enough faith in their pitcher's ability to help them win games or they wouldn't have resorted to such horrible behavior. Has anyone ever taught that group up there about good sportsmanship? I know for a fact if PV's parents had behaved that way, Momma Light would have thrown a colossal fit! You should be ashamed of yourself!
BTW, I think I know for sure now who ladyknightsfan is.

Jeter was behind the plate.. (I think anyway, haha).
Our Pitcher did great tonight...she cannot win the game by herself..We did get a real bad call tonight I think. But that is okay we have had a great season and that one call did not make us lose. Have a great summer all.. My season is over..I have no comment about the Lights,,,Just thankful for their daughter and Glad she is a Blue Knight and is going to stay one.

Well, all the coaches had to do was tell the umpires about the girl's parents and he would have made them move. As far as the fans are concerned yelling at the coaches, the same thing would apply. Fans will be fans, but it does sometimes get out of hand.
I have seen PV's fans get out of hand in the past also. As a matter of fact, I have seen every team's fan get out of hand. You have to remember, though, it is a game played by kids, created for kid.
Well, the umpire was directly behind the catcher, so I'm pretty sure he heard all the things they were saying. The coaches shouldn't have needed to ask the Umps to do something, he should have done it anyway. There was no need for the Lights to sit there the entire game and haggle our pitcher. I'm sorry but there is no excuse for the parents of one player to do that to a player on the opposing team. I would bet money if I had behaved that way, Mrs. Light would have been trying to fight me. The parents need to realize they have to set an example for their children and not behave so terribly. It is one thing to cheer your team on, but another to sit an harass the opposing teams pitcher.
does anyonw know the pairings for the region tournament
Why are you just saying it was the Lights? Were they the only people over there? I recall it was crowded where they were at. Fans will be fans..and if it was that bad, I think the ump would have said something. But he did not.
Like I said before, all they had to do was tell the umpire. If they don't complain, then is he supposed to just assume that it is bothering them? Controlling the fans is not his job. It is the host team's responsibility. Most umpires tune the fans out before the game even starts, unless the remarks are such that law enforcement is needed. Then, at the umpire's request, the host team is responsible for the sportsmanship of the fans.
Well it was the Lights voice that the pitcher was hearing.. The fans sitting in the stands didn't bother her. But she did have a visual of them behind the plate and their huge voices.
The Lights are the same people who tried to sue Coeburn LL because they didn't like the way things were being run in girls softball (i.e.--they couldn't put their own team together how they wanted it in local league play, and their girl wasn't allowed to pitch every single game due to LL rules of resting pitchers). Basically, they wanted to make Coeburn LL Girls Softball just like AAU Girls Softball through litigation, and that wasn't going to happen.
They've always been highly belligerent. Nothing they do surprises me at all. I like having talented girls like theirs at Coeburn, but it's a shame when the parents give CHS a bad name.
Did she complain to the umpire then? Evidently not, or the umpire would have had something done.
Well said, thank you. The Lights were the only ones that was haggling the pitcher, or at least the only ones that she could hear. The rest of the fans didn't phase her in the least, but it was hard for her with them right there where she could see them and hear them.

No she didn't complain to the umpire, and I am sure if she had he would have done something about it, but she isn't the kind of kid to complain about things. She tries to please everyone, but that still does not make what they (the Lights) did.
Needless to say, she prevailed and PV won, and she still accumulated 10 strikeouts.
All I can say is that I've seen them do some pretty objectionable things, including challenging HS kids to fist fights at ball games. Really adult--and that reflects on Coeburn as a whole very well...
They're a sensitive subject for me. I'm gonna shut up now.

i've not witnessed it, but i've had some people tell me that they act like pure idiots at games.

OK, then. Didn't know they were the ones who tried that. I knew it was a girl's parents, didn't know it was them. Maybe that is why they were sitting where they were. To stay away from the other parents. Kinda like outcasts I guess.
OK, they are kinda like another parent from there, from I am guessing around 8-10 years ago. If he didn't like what a call was, he would come out and want to fight the umpires. I remember one time during a senior league baseball game in Pound, this guy actually followed one of the umpires to his home and tried to start something there.

To be outcasts, you have to be tossed out. They never were.
People see them for what they are, and are smart enough to stay away & keep their distance--at least most parents are anyway.
Not trying to disparage the Lights, but I gotta call a spade a spade. They're just flat out overzealous.
And now I'm shutting up.
That is a shame, their daughter is a good pither and as she matures, she will be even better.

Exactly, she is a great pitcher. We have tremendous respect for Hannah. She is a really nice girl off the field. But what are they gonna do, follow her to college and try to run the show there too. It might make it harder for her to find a good college to attend with the baggage she brings along with her in her parents. They should realize it might hurt her in the long run.
There is two sides to every story...Don't believe nothing you hear and 1/2 of what you see...That is what I have always been told..
Colleges will not tolerate that stuff. I expect they will find that out quickly.

I've seen & heard both sides pertaining to this story. I'm speaking the truth...and I'm shutting up again.
Are you sure? I hear differently.

They'll be lucky if MECC allows her to play intramural slow-pitch if they try to go anywhere to run the show.

Maybe you're one of the ones who doesn't keep your distance from these two. If so, I understand how lopsided of a perspective that you get.
I'm done on this thread though--if you want to discuss this I'm only doing it via PM's. This subject doesn't belong on this thread anyways--I probably shouldn't have brought it up as it is.
She is a great kid and she don't deserve you all talking about her and her parents that way...What goes around will come around.
Oh btw, I want to congratulate Cassie Sturgill on an awesome homerun she hit today during the game.
I actually saw a girl's parents follow her to college when she was playing. The team finally dismissed her because of her parents. It was a shame, too. Probably had the best talent in 5 years coming from this high school team. Actually, she could have played for a D-1 team.

nobody ever said anything about her not being a great kid, and nobody is on here talking bad about her, they are just telling the facts of how her parents act. it has nothing to do with Hannah, she is a great pitcher & no one is trying to take that away from her.

Well her parents shouldn't act the way they do! They are what brings this kinda of topic on. Do you really think PV's pitcher deserved being treated the way she was by the Lights? Yeah what goes around comes around and therefore they will probably end up getting theirs.
First of all, "Everyone that was in the ballpark that isnt from PV", knows that the homeplate umpire screwed Coeburn tonight with his horrible calls! If that is the best umpire around then we are really hurting for officiating around here! And to speak of the Lights, they are very vocal fans, like most fans are. If it had been as bad as you say then the umpire would have calmed it down. All they were saying was that the pitcher (from PV) wasnt throwing very consistent and Coeburns batters were swinging at terrible pitches! They were hollering at the batters not the pitcher! They swung at stuff that was not even catchable....they were way to aggressive, they needed to make her throw strikes! They were not being ugly to the pitcher, maybe being loud, but is that illegal? Coeburn gave PV a very good game, and it could have went either way, a Coeburn's pitcher did her job very well! And remember, Coeburn is a team that has only one senior, they will be back, and much better!

Actually, My dirty laundry was "cleaned" on here several months ago, so, if they sued unsuccessfully, then it is a matter of public record. It doesn't bother me, as the old saying goes, "You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip."
Sure don't sound that way to me...Kids cannot help how their parents do..When you talk about her parents that way (They are not the only parents that get caught up in games) How do you think she feels..It does not matter about her feelings I assume?

Thank you for being able to read JD...I never said she wasn't a good kid or an exceptional athlete--because she is both. Let that be known that is my opinion on the girl.
I just know that I don't want to be the type of parent when I have kids that my actions steal the spotlight away from my child's talents.
