I just do not understand this attitude. If WCYB has said the name, it's a matter of public record.
OK then, NAOMI MIRANDA PETERS
With a name like that she likes girls?
That's what the news said. Kinda ironic isn't it? PETERS
26 year old woman charged with contributing to the deliquency of a minor. She teaches at the high school and primary school. They didn't say much else on the 11:00 news.
OMG. I am not sure about the first name, but it sounds like a friend of mine who used to go to church with us but has quit coming in recent months.
She is extremely nieve. Please pray for her. I have had a bad feeling about this for some time since reading this today without a name. She cares a lot for her students, or at least that is what she requested prayer for quite frequently. I have always found her a little odd, but I just felt like it was because she seemed so nieve and didn't have a backbone that worried me the most about her teaching.
So this is a delinquency deal, not a sexual issue?

And her last name is "Peters"??? Interesting......
Man, the places this discussion could go.................
On a serious note, we will see more and more of this, as its a by-product of our lax society and morals. It really should come as no surprise at all.
You are right on the money there ut1

I think it went on just as much in the 70's when I was in school, people just looked the other way back then. There were two long term, well known, female teacher & male student relationships when I was in school (one of the couples is still married today). Nobody seemed to care.
One male teacher had numerous "relationships" everybody knew it, the administration had to know it, nobody seemed to care. The only one that caused a stir was when a teacher / coach and a student were actually caught in the act at school. I don't think even that made the paper though.
BTW, this thread is useless without pics
J/K.....kind of....
Yep, it did happen in the 70's when I was in school. Everyone thought it was cool then.
Well I have found out a ton more this morning, but I really can't say much about it. The teacher is the person who used to attend church with us, but quit coming a few months ago.
There is no doubt in my mind she is guilty as guilty can be. Also, the sad part is the parents of this minor involved are just guilty as of negligence as Miranda is of delinquincy for the relationship.
Its a sad-sad time for these situations.
As for the pictures Gotch, I don't think were missing much, at least not with Miranda.
I've just never understood how grown adults can find children attractive that way. (I know I know, men ogle 17 year old girls all the time, but still they're children!)
Hit it right on the head! It is wrong...PERIOD! As a teacher, I have a huge issue with this subject. To be effective, you have to win the trust of your students. That means that you have to show that you care for them as people as much as you care about them as students. I think we've all heard the slogan, "We love children!", and that has to be true. You have to love your students, no matter what their academic or social standing is. With that being said, you cannot stray too far beyond the fact that being a teacher is a profession. It is a job. It does become a lifestyle, but it is primarily a way to pay bills. I'm afraid that there are too many teachers that take the de facto parent thing or the adult friend/mentor thing too far. This type of incident makes us all look bad and makes skeptics out of everybody. People start questioning motives more and they should.
I'm like some others, I think it is just becomming a problem but it has been goin on forever...And it seems like the ones who are ok with it can't see why everyone else is not...I know Da Cove had an issue like this before, not gonna say the girls name, for obvious reasons...But her parents thought it was ok and everything, he walked her to class, ect., ect. The sad part in his situation is he had a wife at home, and the girl played volleyball, and the teacher/coach's wife coached at Twin Springs...fun times at the ball game!!!
She is not listed on the AHS website. Have they already taken her off? I too know that this has been happening for a long time. I graduated from Powell Valley in 1964, and there were some situations occuring then. One of them, a coach, was forced to leave.
I know of a case at CHS, where the student and teacher are now married. (I'm a little fuzzy as to whether he's still a teacher)
Vulnerable students can fall for teachers because they're grown, "mature", a father/mother figure or leader, blah blah blah.
However, it's up to the adults in the picture to keep the situation appropriate in these cases. They shouldn't be working with kids if they can't control themselves.
And sometimes you have the freaks who just like the children the wrong way.
Perhaps a psych evaluation before every hire would be in order
17 y/o ain't no child.
Didn't Coach Crockett do this at Appalachia and then later married her? Shelly Clendenon?
Nope, think they are the same age.
The Clendenon girl isn't the only student Crockett was having extracurricular activities with.
No, there's no way they are the same age....He was a teacher when she was a astudent, and I was a student two classes behind her. . .
Appalachia art teacher set for arraignment
Published 06/01/2007 By Stephen Igo
WISE - A Wise County teacher will appear for a Wednesday arraignment hearing on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor related to an ongoing police probe into allegations the teacher engaged in an improper relationship with a female high school student.
Wise County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Mike Holbrook on Friday said Naomi Miranda Peters, 26, 321 Stockton St., Gate City, an art teacher at Appalachia High School and Appalachia Primary School, was arrested Thursday at the high school without incident.
She is free under an unsecured $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Wise County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Wednesday for further court processing to include setting a court date on the charge.
Since March, Holbrook said Peters has been the subject of an investigation into allegations she had an improper relationship with a female Appalachia High School student. The lead investigator on the case, Holbrook said he has interviewed several witnesses, including students.
An interview with one of those students resulted in the charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor that is now leveled against Peters, Holbrook said.
The witness, another female student at Appalachia High School, allegedly told investigators that Peters instructed her to lie to police when questioned about the alleged relationship with the other girl. Holbrook did not supply the ages of the girls but said both are under 18 and students or former students of the high school.
Holbrook said an adult who instructs a minor to lie to a law enforcement officer violates Virginia's criminal code regarding contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The maximum penalty for that charge, a misdemeanor, is 12 months in jail and/or a $2,500 fine.
The investigation into the more serious allegations involving Peters and the other underage female is ongoing, Holbrook said. Both Peters and the alleged victim have denied the allegations, he said.
On Friday, Wise County Assistant Superintendent of Schools Don Mullins said Peters is "still an employee of ours ... and we are, I guess you might say, we are checking out the situation."
Personnel privacy rules prevent school administrators from addressing many specifics of employees, but Mullins said he believed the recently concluded school year was Peters' second in Wise County, splitting her teaching time at both Appalachia schools.
The pending misdemeanor charge and ongoing investigation targeting Peters mark the second criminal probe of an allegedly scandalous nature involving Wise County school division employees this year.
Earlier this week, a former Wise County teacher's aide pleaded guilty to three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child under 18 while employed in a supervisory role over children.
Darlene A. Blagg, 36, 2200-D Egan Road, Big Stone Gap, was sentenced by Circuit Judge Joseph Carico to 30 days in jail, a three-year suspended prison sentence, two years of supervised probation, and one year of unsupervised probation. In addition, she must have no further contact with the victim and never seek or hold a job in the future where she would be in a supervisory role over children. Blagg will also be a registered sex offender, a lifelong status.
Carico's sentence adhered to a plea agreement that falls within sentencing guidelines and was forged between Blagg's attorney, Gerald Gray of Clintwood, and Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney Ron Elkins, with approval by the victim's family.
Blagg confessed to authorities to engaging in an improper relationship with a male student who at the time the relationship occurred was a 17-year-old senior at Powell Valley High School, where Blagg worked as a teacher's aide. She apologized to the victim, his family and the school division during Wednesday's hearing before Carico.
The married mother of two young children is to report to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail facility in Duffield by 6 p.m. on June 15 to begin serving her 30 days.
This is just the tip of the iceburg since they only have her brought up on delinquency for having another student lie about the situation.
Its really sad, and quite a mess.
Although I always had odd feelings about her, this still blows my mind, along with everything else I know about the situation.
So what is the story? Rug munching? Distribution of drugs? Showing off photos of her snatch?
Is Naomi a babe or somethin?

Damned if I know. Most of the art teachers I knew in school were skanks and hippies.
Some of these new art teachers are pretty cute tho...I had one in HS that taught art that was about 35 that I thought was hot..lol
I know of one art teacher in the Scott system that isn't half bad. She hasn't changed a bit in the 20 years I've known her.
i went to pv and the lady was there one year..she wasn't exactly hot..but i though she was sexy..lol...
Are you talking about Hannah Kern Bob?
No, I don't think Miranda is hot. Shes not a pure fido, but looks too much like an X I can't stand. Besides, she just got on my nerves too often.
Kern was one of them. Can't recall the name of the other. Jeannie something.
