Perhaps my memory is failing, but when the Jones boys had their camp at CVC last year, didn't it cost around $150-200 for each kid attending?
Contrast that with Jason Witten and his camp at Elizabethton. Free for everyone.

I don't know about the price, but Witten's camp was free and I believe the kids got more out of his camp.
Why would pro football players charge for a camp?
It was supposedly to cover the cost of a tee shirt or something like that.

Simple: because they can. I mean, why would you come back to your home town, where you were loved and adored, and do something out of the kindness of your heart? There are a lot of things I do not like about Jason Witten, but this is one time I can't fault him. Last year, he left as basically a murder suspect for what happened on the lake, but yet he returned this year ... and still did the camp without charge.
He wasn't even in Elizabethton at the time of the boating accident. He was in Dallas when that happened. As a matter of fact, the businessman who was supposed to be involved in the matter with him, wasn't even on the lake either. Turns out it was a dentist from Gate City. Jason was quickly ruled out as a suspect in that case.

because they have a service they can provide to others that not many others can........being a professional football player who can teach kids how to play the game
if given the choice who would you rather pay to learn from
an NFL player who is among the top 5 or 6 at his respective position
or
some fat slob of a HS coach with his belly hanging over his shorts and pastrami hanging out of his mouth
i think its a simple choice
It is called, giving back to your community, like the NFL likes to promote the United Way charities.

What's not to like about Witten? Plenty, I guess, if you're a UT or Dallas hater. What he did for his community is admirable, and I can't believe someone would give credence to a bunch of rumors that floated around last year. That rumor got knocked in the head pretty quick.

I had a pamphlet for the first one they had up at CVC. Can't remember the exact cost, but it seemed pretty cheap if you just brought your kid for the camp. Now if they stayed all night, that's when the price went up.

LOL, I have an appointment with that guy this week!
I don't really understand what a kid going to football camp would need to know thats on a Pro Level, or College level. I don't see what they would teach besides the basic w/e w/e that medicore coach that was mentioned I'm pretty sure they vault no secrets that are on that low of a level that would be worth said amount. I would think you could get all you need from the fat pasta guy. (we are talking about kids right?)
Jason signed autographs at Citigroup in Gray on Friday, really nice guy. Citigroup actually footed the majority of the bill for the camp, but he is a really nice guy
Just saw that his brother Shawn is now the Head Football coach at Elizabethan. I believe his name was shawn.
Yeah, he seems like it it seems that the big scary guys are the nicest guys really, look at Heath Miller(sp) He donated money to his school for a new field house and all that stuff, if im not mistaken it wasn't cheap...at all.
Yeh the Jones boys gave back to the community after the first camp they had ,they gave $25,000 to Phil to redo the viking weight room, brought equipment in from Las Vegas. My boys went to the first camp they had and it was $50 a person.Probably had 300 to 400 kids. Last year they raised the price and had no where near the turnout. My boys werent going anyway because I was going to donate any more money to P.V.,wonder how many more felt the same way?
Well, they went to school at PV. I just think that that money should have been used to help develop the field better at UVA-Wise so we would have a real shot at hosting the state finals.
To me it seems like Witten, The Jones', Miller, Hamilton and even Gerald Sensabaugh would get together and have camp around here. Just pick neutraul site or a central locatin that would equal distance for everyone. Being that they all are pretty much local.
True, they could have it at somewhere like Gate City. It is fairly well centrally located, or maybe even Sullivan North. UVA-Wise would work well also.
