Shelby Valley Scrimmage

By the way, Shelby Valley has a very, very nice football field.

In the first scrimmage, each team ran ten plays from scrimmage and Burton scored once with Shelby Valley not scoring, they had one wide open TD with no one in sight and the receiver dropped it. Overall not to bad for a first scrimmage and a couple of starting lineman on the sideline.

Then, Sheldon Clark took it too Pikeville, don't know how they are ranked as high as they said they were, #4 in the state or whatnot. I think Sheldon Clark scored twice to Pikeville's 0.

Then, Burton came out and took on Pikeville, in which they held us pretty well the entire ten plays until play 9 when Ethan Stewart took off 50 yards for a score on a QB Draw. Pikeville then proceeded to go about 60 yards on Burton's 2nd String so Jimbo brings back in the the 1st team D since Pikeville was running their 1st team and Pikeville had 5 more plays from the 1 yard line and never crossed the goaline so Burton won that one by a score of 6-0 or one score to zero however you want to say it.

But overall, not a bad first scrimmage and I guess the real test is going to be next friday. Hope I explained everything right. It was hot. And again, man, very nice facility for the Wildcats of Shelby Valley.

How did Shelby Valley look?

Shelby is going to be competative,they have got a pretty decent line and a real nice QB who can lay it on yhe money,they had us Burton beaten twice in which one was caught and one was dropped.Our D is going to keep us in every game and sooner or later someone is going to bust one for us,i heard coach say overall c+,Miles and Peters ran hard betwenn the tackles with some good gains,and Coleman,Sensabaugh,and newcomer Devin Talley,kept the sweeps going,Coleman also hauled in several nice catches,and scored on a jet sweep from 6 yards out.In a 4 quarter game in my opinion Burton would beat either Shelby Valley or Pikeville by atleast 3 TD's.Now Sheldon Clark which we didnt get to play was the next best team in my judgement,like to of seen a couple of quarters of Burton and them.Pikeville looked to be the weaker of the four,lots of trash talking and dirty play according to my son,and not much backing it up,gladly whip them anyday.

Overall not a bad showing for Burton, but they need to find a few lineman. Defense is in pretty good shape though. Does anyone know why Burton didn't play Sheldon Clark and why they played SV 3 times?

I didn't know they were playing more. So Burton played Shelby Valley another 2 times after the Pikeville game? Was it mainly the 2nd teams that played?

Also did anyone else hear the announcer say when Pikeville took the field that you will be watching one of the premier football programs in Eastern Kentucky? I thought Sheldon Clark and Shelby Valley looked better than them. I don't know maybe my eyes are going crazy on me.

The Panthers are the 2nd-highest ranked team in EK right now.

The Bluegrasspreps.com Preseason Poll has Pikeville #4 in Class A & Sheldon Clark #8 in Class 3A (with district rival Belfry at #3). Also, Bell Co. is #2 in 4A, Middlesboro #9 in 2A and Cumberland & Hazard #9 & #10 in A (if you didn't know, Ky. went to 6 classes this year).

Pikeville didn't really impress me all that much. Sheldon Clark was a much better team I thought. Yeah UTVols2 Burton did play SV 2 more times. The scrubs went in but got pulled when SV started to move (the 2nd game). The third time they played we left. I also think both teams scrubs started playing. We was wanting to see SC and JIB play, but they didn't while we were there. Anyways, me and Dorton were talking about how it looked like Burton has a lot less out this year. I know lastnight was the first live action against another team and all, but if they this year like lastnight it will be a long one. By going by lastnights games I wouldn't be surprised if Burton went 6-4 or 7-3.

I said in one of these threads that it wouldn't shock me if Burton lost 2 or 3 games this year.

I think they might have few key lineman hurt. So hopefully when they get healed up and return things will improve.

I don't know about 6-4 or 7-3, we had two starting lineman already on the sideline last night. Who knows though, a few injuries and it could happen but I don't see anything worse than 8-2 maybe 7-3 if we have a lot of injuries but we will see.

I was there last night, and I realize it was the first go around last night, but I left Kinda feeling disappointed. Maybe it was where we ruled so much ass last year (I don't know)

But my fellow raider fans shouldn't feel too disappointed when we go 6-4 this year (POSSIBLY 7-3) I don't know how Clintwood, PV, GC or Honaker Looks.... I don't need to know... My guess is these will be the 4 games we lose.

I know we had 2 tackles out last night (and for the jet sweet tackles are REALLY important).... but we CANNOT be in a position where if someone gets hurt its GG (good game) on the season....

It just seems like we have so few kids this year compaired to last year... didn't we only graduate 5 from the team?! Oh Well...

Again, maybe my expectations were just uber high? But im not looking for much out of my boys this year, but that won't keep me from talking my share of smack Best of Luck Raiders!!!!

Dang guys, its the first scrimmage. You all might be right but my expectations are not too far from last year. We graduated 7 I beleive but I feel our defense will carry us through most of the year. Of course, I left after the goal line stand last night, 5 plays, don't know if anyone else saw that or not but I sure did. I guess I will hold all my thoughts until after this next scrimmage but I am not going to go as far as 6-4, but I don't know. We will see.

I dont no what you all were seeing but i seen a Raider team that was fired up and could easilly whip these teams any day of the week,Pikevile might be there preseason,but if they are ranked that high it must be pretty weak in eastern Ky this year,Remember DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS ask Pikeville 5 plays from the 1 inch line and stuck 5 times from the inch line,the offense is not going to be as impressive guys if that what your looking for then dont whatch burton this year,if you want to see a hard nose D giving up less than a TD a game then this is your ticket,but a shootout no,not this year.Burton at worst will faulter against either PV or CW that means 9-1,not bad,could be 10-0,believe me,sorry guys mayby we will impress you later on.By the way we graduated 11 seven of which played in the starting rotation.Last year we dressed 47 this year 37 so minus 10.Have you seen the shirt Coach gave the kids for completeing 2a days yeah they have a big black and orange BULLSEYE on the back,meaning every team that encounters us will have one thing on there mind and that is knocking us off the TOP,and not only that trying there damdest to embarass us,but as we no they better eat there wheaties and bring there A game,this junk gets me fired up.

I was there and seen the goal line stand. Yes the Defense looks good. Ah maybe you all know something I don't. But also remember we were playing pikeville and shelby valley. As I said before hopefully when the lineman return the team will look much better.

I would be willing to put up $100 to someone who thinks that they will finish worse than 8-2. I just don't see it happening this year unless we have major injuries at multiple positions.

Disappointed? I know that they were playing shelby valley and pikeville, but that is 10 times better scrimmage than Twin Springs and Ervinton from last year.

OH you're probably right. I just saw Shelby Valley in the title and that reminded me of the PV/GC/Shelby Valley scrimmage..

Norton scrimmage starts at 4. The 2nd string is playing Kelly at 4. Starting at 6:20 is when the starters play. Lebanon & WC and Kelly Lebanon. At 8:40 Burton plays Lebanon and WC.

When does the regular season start here? Norton looked well. I hadnt seen them play in a year. They can ball, no doubt about that. I thought it went well. Sheldon Clark is good! My impression going in was they would be the best team in the scrimmage. Hope everyone got there and home safe withOUT a speeding ticket.

The first regular season games will be played on August 24.
