Alot closer than I thought. GC has had the ball deep in Richlands territory several times, but stalled each time. Also had a few costly turnovers. This mainly responsible for Richlands 14 points. Game is at end of 3rd quarter.

All they have given so far are these (listing the winners)- PV, Richlands, Lebanon, Clintwood, Kelly, Appy, Haysi, Abingdon, Chilhowie, and Burton ( I think they said 57-24).

Burton showed some flashes of what could come this season. Now that they have 3 big district games in a row coming up I think they will be more focused than they were tonight

LOL no worries - at Castlewood tonight there were some pretty crazy fans as well.

I remember one play in which it was 4th down and Appalachia was forced to punt (they were penalized so much, it was a LONG 4th down), and the snap went low and the punter (Devin Brickey) juggled the ball around for a few seconds and picked it up and went running with it instead of trying to punt with like 4 defensive guys in his face.

The defense didn't expect it so he ran a LONG ways and somehow got a first down. He was flat out flying.

After the play, I heard some older guy behind me yell, "HEY, STOP PLAYING DIRTY. .. bunch of rednecks." (I was on the Castlewood side because the Appy side was PACKED.)

I wanted to laugh my a** off because it was so ridiculous. I guess it would have been a lot less "redneck-ish" if he would have tried to punt, only to have it blocked, resulting in a Castlewood touchdown? Hypocrites at their best.

Does anyone have any details of the games tonight?? BRIGHT SPOTS?

Thanks .. glad you enjoyed it! It was a pretty exciting game overall. Much closer than I expected anyways. I was figuring Appy would blow out Castlewood.

Patrick Henry - 40 something
Pound - 7

When I left the Pound/Patrick Henry game with 6 mintues left in the game, Patrick Henry had just scored another TD makin the score 47-7. Score was 0-0 with 6 minuted left in the 1st quarter, neither team was doin anything much and the game was called on account of lightning. There was about a 30 minute delay in the game, and when the Cats took the field after the thunderstorm they found themselves bein thrown around in another storm stirred up by Patrick Henry. 2 punts returned for TD's. Cats picked up a fumble and returned it about 65 yards to the PH 4 and never got in. 1st down, picked up one yard, 2nd down lost 2, 3rd down gained one, and fourth down got stopped on the 1. 1st and goal from the 4 with momentum and they couldnt punch it in. The whole game for the Cats looked a lot like the drive I just described.

Sounds to me like the Wildcats are going to be about the same as last year, if not worse.

I know this sounds stupid with the score Burton put up but we looked like crap tonight. not focused and not ready to play this game is the feeling I got by watching the game.

I hate to break it too ya buck but every school has them. You just got to find the right spots. Don't come near the endzones or people standing up that is all I can tell you. As far as Burton goes. They looked flat, hard to get up for a game of this magnitude. The 1st Team D did not give up a score. The offense looked flat didn't really get a whole lot going. I am glad we got it out of the way in the first game instead of the next couple. I hope #3 Russell Rice checks out OK, he was carted off in the 4th Qt with a back injury. Hope all is well.

Hard to get up for a game of this magnitude?? It's the first game of the season and most good teams want to make a statement in their first game.

If you cant get up for your season opener then you really shoudlnt be playing.

When you play a bad Rye Cove team after beating a state powerhouse to death in a half a game the week before, sandwiched in between a huge game with Appy, it's quite understandable to not be focused on RC.

When you dominate in a scrimmage like last week and you beat who everyone on the other side of the state says will be guaranteed to make it to state and win it this year and you go out and hang 41 on them in a half then yes, the next game against Rye Cove whom you are favored considerably is kinda of a let down.

I know you should be fired up for your first game and I they did show it for the first possession but you can clearly tell that it was just another game by halftime. Like I said, I am glad we got out of there with a victory and hopefully with no serious injuries. I hope Russell is OK and our starting center also was sidelined after about the second possession. Kinda knocks the wind out of you sails when the atmosphere was basically like sitting in a graveyard.

Man we have spoiled some people,guys 57 points starting D allowed 2 yards,we could have made the game 90-8 real easy,but that is classless,second team D needs alot of work,and by the way i know of a few kids that was ready to play and didnt have there heads in the clouds,Burton is not perfect neither is any team,i myself think it was a good win,anytime you beat someone by 30+ its allright,and im not kidding it could have been 90+ -8.

The raiders will be ready next week for appy mark it down.Ill be ready to im going to buy be a air horn.This is going to be the best burton team i will see in my lifetime.I never thought i would see norton beat pv two years in a row. And this year its going to be three.Everybody talking about burton looking flat pv was tied with lee 6 to 6 at the half and only won 21 -6.

Having not seen the game, seems like you're being a bit tough on them starbuck.

Opening week. Opponent thats not really a threat to them now. A week after they put the smack down on a team that they owed something. A week before Appy.

50+ points, starting d pretty much shutdown. I mean that's 2 pretty good things to start a season with, no matter who you play.

That being said, nope, I would hope a coach wasn't pleased with an effort tonight. Its week 1, you start acting like a team does everything right, there is only one way to go.
