JV Football

Normally I get mad when ppl post about JV on here, but I remembered someone saying Haysi should have a good team and PV as well. I saw Haysi play Clintwood tonight and it is true they do have a good young team.

Pound played Appy tonight and Pound lost.But what hits!Pound has a few in jv that will lay some licks.Was a good game until the refs didn't want to call a few bad calls. (late hits)

can not blame the refs they did a great job

I've heard quite a few people commenting on what good JV teams Haysi and Powell Valley have this year.

Maybe we'll be seeing a couple of really good teams from these two in a couple of years.

Haysi's JV just dominated Clintwood really bad. It got ugly in a hurry. I heard they had some pretty good officiating down there though. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img]

one of the OLB's hit our QB in the back and no he didnt have the ball he was rolling out after a handoff but it was really deep and he was not faking like he had the ball right in front of the ref no call

haysi also had 4-5 false start calls all inside the 25 yrd line
I know for sure clintwood had at least 2 no calls on false starts one was on a tackle the other on the TE but I think the refs were trying to slow the tigers down

on another thread we were talking about haysi's many formations well they worked against us last night we had a SE and a FL on either side with a TE on the left and we were penalized for not having enough men on the line? im not great at math but I think that makes 8 even if one of the SE's was not on the ball it was still a legal formation

later in the season Haysi plays Pound should be a good game

I don't understand the watch Pound thread completely, but ok. I thought the ref's did a good job, there was just 3 of them and I didn't think they did anything that was inappropriate or on purpose. I thought for a 3 man crew they did great!

I don't think so. I watched closely for false starts on both teams.

I remember the play you are talking about. The SE on my side never got up on the line of scrimmage. Just because he's supposed to be doesn't mean he was. The SE on the other side did not look like he got on the line either but with a 3 man crew it was tough to tell from my vantage point. I could have missed it. It's just really tough when you only have 3. It wasn't a formation trick that made it tough it was just having one guy account for the entire line of scrimmage. I played in that offense so that formation didn't surprise me at all. It's difficult when there are so many other things to watch for. It is possible they had 7 on the line though I do admit that. I would need to see the tape to know for sure. The guy on the other side didn't have an official to check with to see if he was on the line so I don't blame him but the guy on my side needed to make sure he was on the line which he DID NOT.

The TE and tackle both flinched both were on the haysi side as far as not having enough on the line I understand with only 3 it is hard it just bothers me that it took a TD off the board I just dont understand how you can make that call taking a TD away when you were all the way across the field if it was one of the other refs the same goes for them if the SE does not have anyone to check with then you cant penalize him but I do understand it is hard with only 3

The only suggestion I could give is get the schools to pay for 4 officials. With 3 it means the lineman has to make calls ALL THE WAY down the line of scrimmage. Simple as that.

I went to the Haysi varsity game friday night and ended up talking to the Haysi JV coaches and to be honest they said the officiating in the game was actually very good. maybe some tough calls either way but it's not easy to ref with only 3 & they spoke especially highly of Strouth who is well respected down there.

haven't seen pound - maybe I'll get to if I had a schedule. I like to watch jv games. does pound play a traditional 9th & 10th grade jv roster or like some who now have gone to 8th & 9th?

Pound has mainly 8th graders.I don't have a schedule but I could post the games as I find out what team we are gonna play.Games are usually on Thursday.

can anyone explain the rules governing j.v. who all is allowed to play, where i grew up jv was for 9th, 10th, 11,th, freshman football was only for freshmen and varsity was for anyone who made it.

it varies from school to school at Haysi it is 8th and 9th a lot of schools have some 10th Haysi plays some B team games which is anyone on the Varsity squad who doesnt start
