Injury Updates for Burton
Coleman will be out for the rest of the season & also basketball season. Another trip to the doctor determined that his tendons and ligaments are torn. He will be having surgery next week. Hunnicutt was diagnosed with a type 3 concussion and mild brain trauma. He will be out at least 2-3 weeks and possibly thru the playoffs. Please keep both in your prayers. Three players were injured at Honaker last night but all three stayed in the game.

Re: Injury Updates for Burton
I really hate to hear this.
This puts JIB at a big disadvantage.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Sorry to hear that about Jaycob. From all I've seen from him, he's a fine young man. Is the injury to his elbow?
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Yeah, when he hyper extended it during the Pound game.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
ouch, that will really hurt them big time

Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Corey's hand, Lamaar's knee and Skylar's ankle. Like I said, all three stayed in and seemed to do fine but you never know what can happen.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Coleman is a huge, huge loss for JIB.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
I fear that's going to hurt them badly when it comes to post-season play.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
I agree.
I think it's also going to dramatically change the outlook on the basketball season.

I was wondering about that as well.....I was under the impression that he was only looking at being out 4 to 6 weeks

Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Coleman being out is one of the reasons Burton wont win state.

Well never say never Norton STILL has a fine ball club but with small schools an Injury to a key player hurts bad
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Look i am not saying Coleman being out wont hurt them but lets not forget anout martinez miles one heck of a athlete i am from coeburn and he will step in just fine.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
I hate to hear that any player is hurt. I pray that all players will be ok.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
I'm sure there are some who would disagree with me, but I think Coleman could very well be the best athlete at JIB.
Miles is a good player, and JIB probably has enough to win the Region, but its a whole different ballgame up state.

Re: Injury Updates for Burton
I think this thread is way off topic.I am more worried about the injured players at this time.I hope they are better and I think a lot about Alex.If anyone hears anything else please let me know.
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
what are their numbers
I was at the game, it was a very hard hitting ball game
-
Re: Injury Updates for Burton
Alex is fine, he was at school today...and I think he said he will be back for the GC game...amd Coleman is out for 6-9 months...and being a member of the team, I would say he is a huge hurt for us in basketball as well

Another injury update for today
Corey Freeman hurt his hand Friday night at Honaker while blocking a punt. Initially they thought it was just a deep bruise. Doctor confirmed today that his hand is broken and he will be having surgery in the morning. Should only miss one game, doctor thinks he can play with the cast after a few days of healing time. Please keep him in your prayers.
-
Re: Another injury update for today
Freeman did great in surgery and is back home now. Don't have timetable from the doctor yet but he said that everything went good and there was no major damage. He's still in a soft cast, sprint, and sling until the swelling goes down enough for a hard cast.

Re: Another injury update for today
thats one thing that has not really hit orton the past couple of years was the injury bug. the only real time i can member it hitting was when lorenzo miles got hurt and they got blown away in the first state game.

Re: Another injury update for today
todd goode got hurt in 96 against lee high the year we beat appy 28-20 in overtime.lost the rematch with them if he doesnt get hurt we would have won state.
-
Re: Another injury update for today
Are you sure about that? Bath County handed it to Appy that year in the semis if I am not mistaken.
-
Re: Another injury update for today
Ah hell Stripes, everyone knows they'd have at least a dozen of them if it weren't for if's and but's, candy and nuts...
-
Re: Another injury update for today
Taken from a Bucky Dent article on the BHC website:
"Maybe it's because of the awful call they got in last year's state championship game, but Burton fans are now overreacting on routine flags which go against their team. A simple procedure call at Honaker Friday night was greeted with profanities and prolonged booing"?and this was with a 25-7 lead."
Pretty much sums it up.

I doubt that.

I said that after the first game at Rye Cove this year and I said I dreaded to hear after every flag about the state call but overall it hasn't been as bad as I feared.

Dawgs were the 96 state champs.

Re: Another injury update for today
I guess it was 95 they lost, because it was Turners sophomore year.

Re: Another injury update for today
State championship or none, no one can deny that JI Burton has dominated the district again.
1. J.I. Burton 4-0 7-0
2. Clintwood 1-0 3-3
3. Appalachia 1-1 5-2
4. J.J .Kelly 1-2 5-2
5. Powell Valley 1-2 4-3
6. Pound 0-3 1-6
-
Re: Another injury update for today
No offense to anyone, but what does dominating the LPD get you? IMO, without a Region D or state title.....being LPD season champs is meaningless.
-
Re: Another injury update for today
IMO the only one that matters is the big one. District champs is good for an up and coming team. A region championship is good for a team from a district that hardly can compete in normal years, but for an established power house, anything short of a state crown is a disappointment.
-
Re: Another injury update for today
What does it mean? It means you were the best in your district. Now, that may not mean anything to some people. But, for a team that has struggled to even have a winning season, it could mean a lot.
We could argue from now until the rapture about the importance of state championships, but there haven't been many coming back to this area in the last few years. We may never see another state championship in football come back to the LPD.
In my opinion, you can minimize a team's accomplishments and say, "its a state championship or nothing," or you can accept and appreciate the district, region, etc for exactly what it is, nothing more or nothing less.
At the end of the day, it's still high school athletics and it's still kids. When you consider the alternatives of having a 0-10 season to winning your district, then winning the district doesn't seem so trivial.
I personally think too many of the teams and too many of the fans have become spoiled with past successes and have become complacent. If a few more had to go through a few of the seasons that teams like Ervinton, Hurley, and even some of our LPD teams have endured, they might appreciate more what they do have.

It might be meaningless to you but it does mean something to the kids. I think Burton has won the region 4-5 years straight....does that mean anything? Probably not to you.
How about this :
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE MEANINGLESS UNLESS YOU ARE THE #1 RANKED HIGH SCHOOL TEAM IN THE NATION?

Re: Another injury update for today
I have to say I am extremely proud of what the kids of Burton have accomplished over the past 4-5 years, they are without a doubt the most successful kids to ever come thru our school. I would have never imagined in my life that Burton would win 2 LPD championships with the possibility of winning 3 in a row. You can ask anyone in Norton, even ask Coach Adams, he would have never imagined it either. Did he expect them to be successful, of course, but they have accomplished more in the past 4-5 years than ever at Burton and all those kids in the locker room need to hear that. I don't care if we don't come back with a state title this year, of course it would be great if they did, but I am not going to look at those kids any differently nor will anyone else in Norton. The main thing to remember is, they are kids.
I would have loved the chance to step on the field for a shot to play for a state championship and regardless of the outcome I am sure it has been a great experience for all who have accomplished it. I know a few years ago a friend of mine was dating a guy from PV right after they had won two or three in a row, it was 98, and someone said congrats to him and his reply was "ah, its just another ring to put in my drawer."

Re: Another injury update for today
JIB has a lot to be proud of.
It's just so much easier for people to criticize than congratulate.
We all know that good teams and athletes come in cycles. If you've been blessed with a good group of athletes and good teams, appreciate it while you've got it.

Re: Another injury update for today
When you win a couple in a row it does become an "old hat"...that being said, no one around here has had a new hat since 03...No one is saying that just because you don't win state, that you don't have anything to be proud of...just that you success will not be remembered in the same light as if you did win. Truth hurts sometimes..but folks can usually rattle off state championship teams..but when you ask em who the runner up was 10-20 years ago vs the team that did win, the answer isn't quite as obvious. Folks can take that however they want to, but that is just how it is.
