DOES ANY TEAM FROM SOUTHWEST VA HAVE A CHANCE AT A STATE TITLE?
DIV I.
BURTON SHOULD MAKE THE FINALS BUT COULD RUN INTO 10TH RANKED WILLIAM CAMPBELL WHO IS VERY UNDERRATED. THEIR LOSS TO GRETNA SHOULD NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE TALENT THIS TEAM HAS AS GRETNA IS STRONG, FAST AND TALENTED.

DIV II
GRETNA VS. ESSEX IN THE A-B SEMI-FINAL WITH GRETNA WINNING BIG.

GILES VS. LEBANON/LEE/POWELL VALLEY OR GATE CITY. I DON'T THINK IT WILL MATTER AS GILES HAS ALREADY THUMPED LEBANON. I DON'T THINK ANYBODY FROM D OR C CAN HANDLE GRETNA. ANY THOUGHTS?

In Div. 1 Burton should get pretty far but I don't see them making it to the state championship this year.

No clue about Div 2 so I won't even comment there.

I don't have any problems with Burton, I root for them every year when they get to state...They either choke or get robbed, and I don't see that changing!

Seriously, look at the past...they have been blown out up there, or ripped off. I feel like their best chance was last year. I'd love to see it happen for the loyal black and orange fansand those kids after all they have endured, but, realistically, they are not as strong this season. They are an excellent team, but it will be a big surprise to me if they get the monkey off their back and bring back gold to the LPD.

The Raiders may have been short of finishing the deal the last few years, but where have the other LPD teams been? What are the others doing while the Raiders have boarded the bus and hit the road to play for the state campionship? Right here's the answer: Putting some polish on the basketball sneakers [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif[/img] To me, I have to laugh at the haters who instead of pulling for a fellow LPD school, put them down. Jealousy? Win or lose, at least they are geting there. This coming from a Kelly fan with no love for the Raiders (just a bit of respect).

Rest assured so there's no confusion: I am not a closet Raider fan lol. If that were the case, in the 70's when I was a wee lad, and my daddy took me to see Cummins' Crew play for state, I was a closet Wave. In the 90's when I hit the road to pull for PV and APPY, I was a closet Vike/Dawg (even a CAT once).

What I am getting at is that when a team from here goes to state, I pull for them. I don't half-arse say it and mean it. I pull heartily for them as if it were my team. The condescends from other parts of the state have made me this way. Guys, whether you love them or hate them, any team from the LPD and SWVA are OUR people. They need your support. If you are just halfway in it, stay at the damn house. What it is seems to be is something that folks forgot LPD PRIDE. Cummins didn't have them boys slap that on their helmets because he thought it looked photogenic. He knew what it meant, not just to play in the toughest distric in the state, but to live in an area where folks weren't afraid to "do work baby". I can dig and understand that.

there isn't a day on this forum that we aren't reminded of JIB losing state 3 years in a row...it gets old...about 10 minutes after the final tick of the clock last yr it got old..

Could you imagine if they made it to state again this year and lost for the fourth time in a row?

I don't mean to offend anyone (especially those from Burton) because I know it isn't exactly nice to mention things such as that, but talk about never hearing the end of it .. That would just be miserable.

Id say that 99% of the teams and players wish they could even play in one state title game. It takes a lot of things to win, timing, good team and most of all luck.

I DO root for every LPD team that makes it to state...It is a pride thing. This post was started to discuss our opinions on whether or not someone would win state this year. As much as I want to see that, I don't think this will be the year. If so, I am all for it. I did not respond out of hate for any team-not JJK, JIB, APPY, PV, or anyone else.

The playing in a state championship game is an experience that any football player relishes,from the preparation,the pep rally,thebus ride on an luxury charter bus,to stoping and practicing at VT,and staying that night before the ballgame in a hotel,shitfire who would not love that especially doing it for possibly 4 years in a row,come on now,that is HEAVEN for a high school football player from a smalltown to boot.I had the chance to experience it in '90 and now my son has done it for 2 years and neither of us would trade that,BELIEVE ME!!!So yeah makeing it to state win or lose is a great experience and acomplishment.
