SMITH CENTER, Kan. -- Smith Center scored 72 points in the first quarter of a high school football game Tuesday night on the way to an 86-0 win over Plainville, according to a report in the Salina, Kan., Journal.

Smith Center forced six turnovers in the first quarter as it racked up what is believed to be a record for points in a quarter by a high school team, the paper reported. The previous record was 66 by Prescott, Ariz., in 1925.

The defending state champion has outscored its opponents 640-0 so far this season, including a 69-0 win over Plainville earlier this year.

what's impressive is they are outscoring their opponents 640-0.

They're not playing 7-7 are they? I know quite a bit of Iowa plays 7-7 ball (not that Iowa = Kansas).

Isn't there a private school in the K'port area that plays 7-7?

there is plenty of time fo rthe other team to score......its the friggin 1st quarter

scoring in the first half does not constitute running up the score

and considering they didnt score much after that 1st quarter id say they called off the dogs and didnt want to run it up in the second half

go to espn.com and read the story....he wasnt running up the score, plus its like bluewahoo said..its the 1st quarter, how about trying to stop someone from scoring?

here are the stats........they threw the ball 3 times.....you cant be running up the score if you run the ball and they just dont tackle you
