Zack and I are heading to Blacksburg this weekend for the VT/FSU game (both of our first times watching a game at Lane Stadium)... and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestion on places to hang out before the game? what's the parking situation like? lots of tailgating? etc etc
Game day parking is horrendous. It shuts down town traffic essentially.
What type hang out are you looking for?
Tech is right on top of downtown Bburg. I'd recommend parking where ever you're directed (for game parking) and walking it to downtown (or take the BT). I've always felt Bburg was pedestrian friendly.

so would u suggest we get there pretty early then? the game is at 3:30 and we're driving up from Coeburn.
any good sports bars nearby to the stadium we'd like to get there early sit down have a few beers then head to the game... we have some friends on campus that invited us to come visit with them ...but being FSU fans (yes even gatorgirl will be sporting FSU gear for this game) I didn't know how well that would go over lol

besides Tally the only other place I've been to a game is UT and there you usually park away from the stadium in random lots and then you walk to the stadium and along the way you pass tons of fast food places, bars, etc.
heck I'd get there the day before!
Most definitely be there early if you want to beat traffic and get settled and enjoy yourselves. All the good hangouts are basically downtown for the most part, walking distance from each other.
A somewhat less crowded sports-bar like place would be BW3 (Buffalo Wild Wings) on Prices Fork Road (on the corner of main).
Before the 460 bypass was put in they closed off all turning traffic going into Bburg at the red lights in Christiansburg even. I used to hate that.

Unfortunately at this point in the week the only reasonable chance you'll have is with scalpers, unless someone knows a ticket holder that's not going to use theirs.
Gatorgirl, Hokie House is one of my favorite spots...and it's opposing team friendly. One time a bunch of NCState fans started their "Wolf...Pack!" chat. haha
awesome. I will def. have to check into that b/c Zack and I want to get there early chat some football, watch some tv, drink a little, and enjoy ourselves before the game starts.

If you want to avoid some of the route 460 backup, take exit#114, rather than 114B, which the majority uses.
Take a left at the bottom of the exit ramp, go through downtown Christiansburg, take a left at the downtown red light (past Hardees and all that), and travel on to 460/Bburg that way.
i think you meant the regular exit to be 118B...but yes, the 114 has significantly less traffic

114 is more an exit for the 'locals' into C'burg (but is also handy access to 460), and the bulk of the game traffic flocks to the standard VT exit. I'd forgotten about VT games a couple of times at got stuck at 118B trying to get onto 460. Not so much fun.
Here's a tip...stay home and save your money.
How was your Lane Stadium/Castrated Fightin' Knobgobblers experience?
It was alright. The parking was cheap and easy. There wasn't any traffic, not what I would call traffic anyway. The hokie house had good food, and beer at a reasonable price. There were plenty of FSU fans. Most of the Tech fans were real cool, except for the retard sitting in front of me. I swear no matter what stadium I go to if there is one moron in the crowd he will be close to me. We just so happened to be entering the stadium where the FSU players and coaches were, so it was cool to see Bowden, Amato, Andrews and some of the others again. The campus was alright and the stadium looked good from the outside, but it's really small. I actually sent a pic from inside the stadium to one of my friends, and he replied "where you at? Gate City..." lol...
So I would say we had a good time even though we got beat, blacksburg is a nice little college town, and it was convenient that I could buy a FSU hat at an away game on game day ( that's a first for me). On the down side the stadium is small and it is by no means loud, Kentucky was actually louder. And the thing with the keys is gay.

I need to get back up there sometime. My last trip to VPI for a foosball game was for VPI/NC St. in 90.
Aside from Joe Robbie, Lane is the worst stadium in the ACC. I got a few more trips left to evaluate so I cant say which one I like best yet(not including the OB).
I thought the VT campus was nice, but I wasnt impressed with Lane at all. IMO, it wasnt that loud at all. I paid $5 for parking. I had to walk about a mile or two across campus, but it was worth it. Ill be back in 09 to watch the Canes roll the Hokies though!

In all seriousness.....I had a great time. Plus to get to sit with friends made it even better.
It was fun.....I had no idea that we would even know anyone sitting near us and then a look and there you and mega are lol
