It must be rough losing to a "castrated turkey"
But you are right, if VT lost you would see a thread 8-10 pages of how VT sucks from fans from every school under the sun. The BC/VT thread was 98% of how terrible VT is.
I'll say it.
The castrated fightin' knobgobblers suck.
Vandy could put 44 on Miami.
That's easy to say since they don't play. Sooo, in your opinion Vandy could put 44 on them. But Vandy CAN put 41 on Richmond!

Just got back from the game. Comments? Just that we were able to make plays on VT's D, but our D didn't show up at all which has been a major concern for the past few weeks, and is a major contributor to our down year. We're thin at DT which allowed the running game to flourish w/Ore & Co., and mark this down--Campbell and Moncur won't sniff the NFL if they don't learn not to bite on the read option fake and keep containment up the field and filter things up the middle instead of trying to chase a guy like T. Taylor to the boundary.
Enjoy it while you can guys--today was your senior day, I noticed VT's losing a lot of key cogs, especially LB's and WR's. Also, take a gander at what's hindering Miami--pass coverage, DT depth, and consistent LB & QB play. All of those things have been addressed in the current freshmen class and the current recruiting class (if they all stick). Patience my friends...this won't become a common occurance. Celebrate now b/c I promise, you will be hanging your heads way low after matchups against us in the future.
we'll be fine at both WR and LB...return 3/4 of the secondary and some great DL...and all but one offensive linemen...plus one of our best recruiting classes ever
congratulations to VT, I cant really say too much. Its not like I can say a whole lot given the Canes dont provide much competition to anyone these days. Clearly the better team won, at home, and should have. Thanks for covering the spread too lol.

I enjoyed our senior day more. 21 out, 33 in. If we are going to lose, gotta lose with SFL talent instead of bringing in that 5 star from North Dakota, while whiffing on 4 others against USC and settling for plan C in our own backyard lol.

That's fine about the secondary but look at the WR's & LB's you're losing:
WR - Morgan, Hyman, Harper, Royal
LB - Adibi, Hall
All 6 of those guys probably played 95% or more of the total snaps for you guys last night and have all year long at their positions. You guys are gonna be relying hard on that secondary & DL coming back, as well as staying heavy run between Ore, both Lewises, and Cheeseman.
I mean, they may be good and being coached up--but I'm not scared of any other LB or WR you guys have on your roster. Dillard's probably the top WR coming back, and Warren's probably the top LB--that's not really that fearsome. And I'm also not scared of LB/WR you guys have coming in in this recruiting class that's "one of VT's best ever". Just looking at VT's current commitment list, there's really and honestly only two guys I'd want over any guys we may be getting, and that'd be DJ Coles or Jeron Gouveia, and I'd want Gouveia just for the bloodlines that he brings, and for the potential to be as good as his dad.
You wanna talk about "one of the best recruiting classes ever" for a school--go take a gander at the one we're putting together so far this year, then get back to me.
The Canes have a "better" recruiting class than VT EVERY year. And I haven't seen VT intimidated lately.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: GC1</div><div class="ubbcode-body">The Canes have a "better" recruiting class than VT EVERY year. And I haven't seen VT intimidated lately.</div></div>
Before towing the company line on recruiting like that--take my advice. Go look at both classes...watch the vids of the kids that are committed to VT vs. those that re committed to Miami. Then note the quality of HS football in the state of Florida as opposed to any part of VA, Tidewater or not. Then tell me that you can play it off as not being concerned for VT's future against Miami.
Instead of showing your ignorance on this by parroting what other VT fans say about that, go do the due dilligence. Or better yet, don't do it, continue to say that and look ignorant, then come back once these guys get in and wonder why Beamer can't develop these guys to play better than Miami's guys anymore so I can laugh and point you back to this post.
However, if you decide to surprise me and go actually look at what we got, compare any kid in VT's current class to videos you can find on google, youtube, scout.com or rivals.com for names like Jacory Harris, Marcus Forston, Sean Spence, Aldarius Johnson, Davon Johnson, Brandon Harris, Thearon Collier, Kendal Thompkins, Micanor Regis, Brandon Washington, Jacory Futch, etc...then tell me it's a typical class and VT has nothing to worry about.
The difference in Coker classes as opposed to the ones we're gonna start getting under Shannon is that S. Florida's locked down. Miami's gonna start getting whoever they want from that area, and then supplement it with whatever OOS guys that they can connect on.
Read what mega wrote--take a 5* guy from North Dakota over 2-3 4* guys from S. Florida, and then end up with a Plan Z guy who's NAIA level but got a Miami scholarship b/c we needed somebody in the class--that's the Coker way in a nutshell.
Shannon's way? Let's get all the kids from S. Florida we can get b/c we know the competition is top notch down here, plus they are connected to the region and want to play here and represent their home. Ignore star ratings for the most part and get who we want because we know they're players. Then get whatever top notch guys we can from OOS to go w/these S. Florida guys. That's the formula that made Miami successful and got them 5 things that VT doesn't have 1 of yet.
it is the same argument evry single year though
and Coles isn't even our best WR recruit, Dyrell Roberts and Jarrett Boykin are both rated higher by those close to the program, but Coles is very good as well
we bring in 6 LB recruits, one of which will start from day one which is Quillie Odom who will go along with Warren and returning starter Cam Martin...in Vince Hall's absence for 4 games, Warren led the team in tackling so we will be just fine there, especially with Barquell Rivers and Bruce Taylor backing him up, if anything, we are deeper at LB next year, just younger
our best returning WR is Zach Luckett who was a 4 star WR out of NJ befoore getting hurt in his sr year to be bumped down to 3 stars and had he not been behind our 4 WR's we have right now he would not have redshirted his freshman year, the coaches are very excited about what that kid can do...Patrick Terry and Danny Coale redshirted this year and both got high praise from everyone around the program...those 3, with Dillard as you pointed out, plus Dyrell Roberts (who will start) and the other 5 WR's we have coming in I am not worried about our WR either
we will probably win 9 games next year and maybe a bowl game and then return everyone for a big run in '09
keep bringin in 5 star kids, you have in the past and you will continue to do so in the future...just compare this VT class to past VT classes and then don't forget that we aren't done and will pick up at the very least 2 more 4 star kids (Painter and Williams) giving us more 4 star kids than we've ever had in one class as well as the most 3 star kids, and the least numbr of 2 star kids
we're gonna be just fine...personally i hope miami rises back to the top it will make the game fun again and it really wasn't the same feeling that i usually get after a victory over miami, and that's unfortunate
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: vthokie22</div><div class="ubbcode-body">keep bringin in 5 star kids, you have in the past and you will continue to do so in the future</div></div>
You still don't get my point...this year's class and future ones under Shannon are different than the Coker classes. The talent may have been 5* under Coker, but it was overrated OOS kids, supplemented by project guys that never panned out, especially on the O-Line. The stars said they were great, but when they got to Miami they were nothing more than Airplane AA's--looked impressive getting off the plane, but weren't much more than that.
Once again, I'm asking you and GC1--go take a look at just a few of those guys I mentioned and think about where they're from and what level of competition they're playing in S. Florida. The vids are easy to find, and it's been well publicized about how good the teams they're on this year are. Take Miami Northwestern's team this year...just for starters. Go look it up, watch them play, then tell me things are the same with the guys that Shannon's getting as they are with the guys that Coker got.
ive looked at them...im not saying at all that they arent good or won't be good...i hope like heck theyre some great ones...id love to see FSU and Miami both rise back up to make the conference much better with the emergence of some other teams
MY POINT is that VT has done very well with getting solid 3 star kids and maybe one or two 4 star kids and if we're lucky, a 5 star kid...now we are lookin at a minimum seven 4 star kids and a whole bunch of 3 stars, to make it our most talented class ever...Miami should get better, but VT isn't going anywhere but up
Whatever dude...I'll let it shake out and be right later. I'll have patience.
And I don't care what you've heard across the way from the coaching staff...Roberts & Boykin aren't on DJ Coles' level. Not saying they won't develop and get there, but don't kid yourself about their current levels of talent.
really? Roberts is our best prospect right now regardless of position
but i didn't realize you knew more about our recruits than VT fans
If you look at VT's recruits over the years, we rarely recruit the 5 star guys. We get the ones that play as a team. That chemistry has worked great and I think it will continue to word. Lots of times, teams get lots of the high rated recruits and they don't fit well into the program and the teams just have mediocre years. I'd rather continue to recruit like we are and continue the success. If it's not broken, then don't fix it.
They go for those 5* guys every year, they just don't get them. I don't know if you don't know what you're talking about or you're just fooling yourself, but you're wrong. They offered 4 last year and got 1. 6 the year before and got 0. 2 the year before and got 1. Those sound like small numbers (4, 6, 2) but there are only about 20 5*'s a year.
The biggest difference in a Coker recruit and a Shannon recruit is regardless of stars, the kid has a much lower floor even if his ceiling may/may not be as high. Guys that he has brought in for example as a lower rated recruit like Kendall Thompkins who has over 600 yards in receptions as opposed to Coker bringing in a guy that cant catch at all and never had any high school production but looks like Andre Johnson(Khalil Jones). Another thing that Shannon has focused on is hes getting players that fit his style of coaching. Right now, hes coaching guys that are real soft feel good types, whereas hes bringing in guys that he can be hard on because those guys have had hard nosed coaches in high school i.e. Miami Northwestern/Booker T Washington. Lung has seen Year of the Bull, he knows you cant be soft coming out of that type of environment. Those types of kids are the types that will bring the old spirit back that the team needs. Forget the whole 5 star 4 star crap, just get some players who have a little self respect that dont quit on their team. Common trend: The LSU game, the Louisville game, the UVA game, thats 3 games where that same group of players quit on their coaches. Clearly an uncoachable group.
You wanna talk about Kyle Wright being gatoraid player of the year and all that. Look at the schools with the most QB success. It isnt so much that they are that much better developing QB's, its that they are taking 7-8 over the course of 3-4 years. Its easier to develop 1-8 than it is 1-2. Thats bad recruiting on Cokers part plain and simple. Pete Carroll has 7 qb's over the last 4 years right now including the transfer Mustain. As lackluster as JDB and Sanchez have been, imagine what their backups look like. Same goes with Texas. You ever hear Jevan Sneads name mentioned? Think about Florida. They got Tebow, Newton, Brantley, and would have had Portis. The 3 behind Tebow may have sucked but you at least have the option.
Simply put, Larry Coker did a bad bad job of recruiting. The classes werent balanced at all, the amount of LB's, DT's, WR's, and QB's is staggering. Its not brain surgery, just recruit alot of good players and it will turn the team around. VT conistently beat Miami wide yesterday. How many Miami Hurricane teams have ever been beaten on a field horizontally? You just dont see that happen. Theres not much talent on the roster. Next year will be tough playing with alot of freshmen and sophomores too. Shannon has his work cut out for him.

I follow recruiting pretty damn close, and just because you're around the bball team doesn't mean you know what's goin on w/how the football coaches think a certain guy might end up being.
Plus, I'm talking current talent. DJ Coles is the only other guy besides Massie and Taylor in the current Rivals 250 that you guys have currently committed. That'll probably change when Vinston Painter makes it all official.
Dyrell Roberts is impressive on film...I'm just saying he's listed as an athlete and not a WR--I think Coles will contribute for you guys at WR quicker than Roberts will...plus he may not even end up at WR, could play elsewhere if needed. That's based off of what I've seen out of video on both of them.
When I need to know if either one of them can make a left-handed layup consistently or if they've got a good handle--I'll give you a call.
he is slotted for us as a WR only, read his updates
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: vthokie22</div><div class="ubbcode-body">he is slotted for us as a WR only, read his updates</div></div>
Justin Hamilton was slotted as a RB only...where'd he end up? Get the picture?
Hamilton had Humes and Imoh in the same class, both were higher on VT's board
VT has no one higher on their board at WR than Dyrell Roberts...Coles will not be at VT til 2009...Dyrell will be in the 4-man rotation at WR from day one
While DR is slotted as a WR I could see him as a McFadden type RB if that doesn't pan out. WADR, the gurus do see him as maybe the top talent in this class at WR. Will he be? Time will tell. Right now I will trust the coaches to make the right decisions.
