Typical idiocy from Jason Whitlock. That dude is the prototype for a racist, who's always talking about racism. In one column he puts down a black athlete, in another he's complaining about how the white man keeps the black athlete down...it's ridiculous. He's a waddling hypocrite.

Can't believe you even posted anything he wrote, especially on ST's death. He's despicable. Notice the guy didn't talk about Taylor being a good student in HS and at UM, and that his family is a police family, and not that his "lifestyle" was filled with fines from the NFL not for misconduct, but for uniform infractions (striped socks). It's also only been sparingly mentioned that no matter what troubles he admittedly had, the recent birth if a son w/his fiance had helped him to turn away from that and towards building a family and helping out in the community more than he used to.

But let's talk about how big of a thug he used to be when he was younger instead of the man he was at the time of his murder. Real effin classy.

If Whitlock loses a lot of weight when he dies and becomes a humanitarian to mankind, I'll be writing a letter to the editor of the Kansas City Star to remind everyone of how big of a fat ass he used to be and how much of a double-talker he was when it came to race relations in sports, even if he dies in a car wreck instead of having a heart attack, I'll blame it on him being what he was, not what he became.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Still in disbelief of his childhood friend's shooting death, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antrel Rolle vowed Wednesday to make sure Sean Taylor is remembered.

He added he did not believe the killing was part of a burglary gone sour, and that Taylor had many enemies on the streets of Miami.

"This was not the first incident," Rolle said. "They've been targeting him for three years now."

Rolle said many former "friends" had it in for Taylor, who was trying to build a more stable life.

"He really didn't say too much," Rolle said, "but I know he lived his life pretty much scared every day of his life when he was down in Miami because those people were targeting him. At least, he's got peace now."

Rolle and Taylor, whose fathers were policemen in Homestead, Fla., started playing football together when they were 6 years old. They went on to become University of Miami teammates and NFL first-round draft picks. Both wore No. 21, Rolle for the Cardinals, Taylor for the Washington Redskins.

Rolle said he hadn't talked to Taylor in a while, and that the Redskin had withdrawn from the crowd he hung around with to build a new life with his girlfriend and young daughter.

"There was so much surrounding him," Rolle said. "Everyone was talking about him bad, so he just had to distance himself from everyone and live a life of his own. ... Within the last year, I've never seen anyone make such a dramatic change,"

Withdrawing from a bad crowd isn't easy, though, Rolle said.

"They say it was a burglary. It absolutely was not a burglary," he said. "Down South, where we're from, there were many people targeting Sean, a lot of jealousy, a lot of angry people.

"Sean, he had a large group of friends, and he no longer hung out with those friends, so you never know where this came from."

Rolle said his family rushed to the hospital to be with Taylor's family following the shooting.

"It really hasn't hit me yet," Rolle said, "the fact that I'm never going to see his face again, his ways, him performing on the field. My heart goes out to his girlfriend, his family, his little kid."

Rolle will leave immediately after Sunday's game against Cleveland on a flight to Miami, where he will attend Monday's memorial service. But Rolle wants fans to keep remembering Taylor as the player he was and the man he was becoming after some rough years.

"I'm going to keep his name alive," Rolle said. "Every time I make a play, I'm definitely going to mention him. I'm going to represent my 21 as his 21."

Rolle said he and Taylor became friends as 6-year-old teammates for the Homestead Hurricanes. Later, when they played against each other, Rolle was a running back and Taylor a linebacker.

"They'd call a sweep one way," Rolle said. "I would look at him on that side, and I would change the play myself and go the other way because I knew he would try to knock my head off."

Rolle was an All-American as a senior in 2004 and was picked eighth overall by the Cardinals. A year before, Taylor earned similar honors at Miami, then went to Washington as the fifth overall choice.

"I definitely will go out there and play and do everything I can do because I know how much he loved the game," Rolle said. "I don't think there was anyone who lived it or took it as seriously as he did. I just told myself I'm not going to let his name die. We started when we were 6 years old, and we're going to finish it together."

Being an Irishman you can imagine the hate I have for that, used to be "Outlaw, thug, football program" but this is a tragedy and goes beyond football and hope something is done or they catch the guilty.
Just speculating..but if your home had been broken into earlier in the week and as Anrel said "people were out to get him and he was SCARED to go out" wonder why he didn't move??

Geez...

OK, Pata was shot last year off campus. Chris Campbell, former LB, died in a car accident in 2002--off campus. Shane Curry (gunshot to the head) Jerome Brown & Al Blades (car accidents) were both already in the NFL before losing their lives--so thusly--off campus.

Everyone makes it out to sound like these things happened right on Miami's campus and that it's a terrible place to go to school. I guess that's what happens when you lean on the media to tell you everything about a situation. Here's a fact--the only death of a Miami player on campus was that of Marlin Barnes when he was with a girl at his UM campus apartment and a jealous ex-boyfriend broke in and beat them to death. That's the only one that happened ON CAMPUS.

But our guys die in car accidents and get shot because they're thugs according to all media outlets. Sickening.

I've hung out w/some of the players, and met their families at games--some of the nicest and most intelligent people I've met. Ask mega--Demarcus Van Dyke's mom hugged me like 10 times because I came over to them and introduced myself and told them that I had interviewed DVD for CanesOverHere. I was like family after that. They are from Miami.

I myself have never been on campus, but I know a lot of alumni from there who have told me how bad of a rap the campus gets for stuff that's happened to players. For example--Coral Gables IS NOT the rough part of Miami. Liberty City is, and they're pretty far apart geographically. Do your homework on that.

Here's an example you can relate to--do we start calling the Greenwave THUG HS just because Robbins supposedly shoved/punched a player on the field? Do we call the Blue Knights THUG HS because Eric Bevins died in a motorcycle accident near the pool several years back? Do we call Rye Cove THUG HS after their hazing incident a few years back? Do we call VT THUG U after the massacre this past year? According to you, those questions all have to be answered "yes".

It's a misnomer. No one liked getting their collective arses handed to them during the run of the 80's to early 90's. They didn't like the way Miami talked up a big game and backed it up on the field. So the hatred spread due to that...it's really that simple, and anytime someone wants to take a shot--they toss out THUG U w/half-arse evidence behind it most of the time...just like you did.

It's easy to label someone a hardcore criminal when they make one mistake, no matter how bad...isn't it??? But is it fair? That's the question you gotta ask. Be careful how you answer that one.

i can also vouch for much of what hes saying......ive also spent a good amount of time on/around the campus for various games/events

the thing is that its easy for these jackasses in the media to paint a picture withou actually knowing the facts or in many cases even having been to the city.....let alone the campus

ive also had a number of interactions with current and former players and their families at various functions........and for the most part they are a very respectable group......sure every group has theirs that arent.....and this is no different

coral gables is a great, very upscale part of miami

its easy to draw conclusions when you hear the same [censored] from 10 different directions.......but in all reality the media says what they think people want to hear and often it isnt totally factual

if you want to see what UM and their football program is really about......go to miami.....walk around the campus......they play a charity softball game every year against the broward sheriffs office......go to that and see how they interact with people......and especially the kids who come out.....go out in the grove.....you will likely run into a few of them on any given night

do that.....interact with them....see the campus and what coral gables is like......then let me know what you think

I've been on campus at Miami and didn't feel unsafe, granted there are some rough places in Miami but not on campus.

I wish I knew how these people know which schools are supposedly the "thug" schools and which are so much worse than the rest.

You know Coeburn Cane you bring incidents that are isolated and happen every now and then, such as the Clintwood and Rye Cove incident and no you cannot call them thugs but this is nothing compared to what went on at the "U." Sure I guess there are some good things that go on there....but..not with the football program.

Controversies and Scandals
The University of Miami has also experienced some degree of controversies, scandals and incidents which at times have led to NCAA sanctions, suspensions, and negative publicity for the university.

1980s: Luther Campbell's "pay for play"
A long-time booster of Hurricanes Football, 2 Live Crew member and local philanthropist Luther Campbell was said to have been behind what was referred to as a "pay-for-play" system, which involved cash rewards for things such as touchdowns and big hits. His ties to the program were at one point so close that former Hurricanes coach Dennis Erickson used to occasionally call upon Campbell as an intermediary when he was having a problem with his players.

1989-1995: Pell Grant scandal and Self-Imposed/NCAA sanctions
In 1994, Tony Russell, a former University of Miami academic advisor, pleaded guilty to helping more than 80 student athletes, 57 of whom were football players, falsify Pell Grant applications in exchange for kickbacks from the players themselves. The scandal dated all the way back to 1989 and secured more than $220,000 in federal grant money. In late 1995, the NCAA concluded that, in addition to the fraudulent Pell Grants facilitated by Mr. Russell, the university had also provided or allowed over $400,000 worth of other, improper payments to Miami football players. The NCAA also found that the university had failed to wholly implement its drug testing program, and permitted three football student-athletes to compete without being subject to the required disciplinary measures specified in the policy. Finally, the NCAA concluded, the university had lost institutional control over the football program.
Miami lost seven scholarships as a result of a self-imposed sanction in 1995, and another 24 scholarships were disallowed by the NCAA over the next two years, but Miami avoided the so-called "death penalty." As a result of the scandal, Sports Illustrated in the summer of 1995 argued in a controversial cover story that Miami should shut down its football program.

2005: 7th Floor Crew
In 2004, an informal hip hop music group called the 7th Floor Crew, allegedly comprised of several UM students, including a few football players, and named for the 7th floor of UM's Pearson Residential College, recorded a rap song. The song ultimately fell into the hands of national media in 2005, including ESPN and Sports Illustrated. Sung to the beat of Aaliyah's "If Your Girl Only Knew", the song's lyrics are filled with what were considered lewd sexual references. Following ESPN's coverage of the song and the role of several UM football players in creating it, the university issued a statement condemning its lyrical content.

2006: FIU Brawl
Main article: Miami-FIU brawl
On October 14, 2006, in the first meeting of cross-town programs, Miami and the Florida International Golden Panthers brawled after a PAT.

FIU cornerback Chris Smith wrestled Miami holder Matt Perelli to the ground after the kick and appeared to punch him in the chin. Another FIU cornerback, Marshall McDuffie, Jr., kicked Perelli in the head.[22] Miami players, including Calais Campbell, came to Perelli's defense, separating Miami and FIU players. FIU's Lionel Singleton punched Campbell in the back of the helmet, which was quickly followed by retaliation from both teams, escalating the fight to a bench-clearing brawl. Miami's Anthony Reddick swung his helmet at FIU players and Miami's Brandon Meriweather kicked an FIU player. FIU's A'Mod Ned, who was injured, came onto the field and swung at Miami players with his crutches. The fight lasted five minutes, and Miami-Dade County police had to come on the field to restore order.

The next day, 31 players from both schools "? 18 from FIU, 13 from Miami "? were handed one-game suspensions.

Like I have said before, if you are going to argue, state the FACTS and back them up, not heresay.

Yes, all those schools you mentioned had Isolated incidents because you have only stated ONE incident and these schools have never even been close to getting the death-penalty like Miami almost received.
The only reason Miami and Alabama did not receive a death penalty is because of their tradition and money.

whats funny is that people say miami is a thug school and use the fact that they came very close to the "death penalty" as the reason.....without actually knowing that their probation had ntohing to do with on or off the field behavior.......and had everything to do with the NCAA rules about athletes being paid

Nobody is saying that Miami has been innocent of all wrongdoing over the years, however other programs have had their share of off the field issues. There have been many schools whose programs didn't get the media microscope that Miami received because they were not elite programs. VT was under the radar for years until Beamer got the program going for example. Now that VT has become one of the better programs in the nation everytime a young man screws up, it hits the media (the price that is paid for success) The cleanup at Miami began with Butch, and the program has had at VERY LEAST no more off the field issues in the last decade than many other schools (such as VT,Penn State and UT).

look.....im not saying they didnt do anything to warrant NCAA probation.......THEY DID......but what im saying is that just because you are on NCAA probation for monetary violations.....that in no way is thuggish behavior.....and to point to that as a justification for calling miami "thug u" is idiotic

secondly in the last 10 years or so......weve had alot less off the field incidents than alot of schools.....PUS, VT, F$U, UiF, Tenn.......all off the top of my head have had more

yet miami is still "thug u"

why is that?
