Jim Grobe of Wake Forest will be named new coach at Arkansas.

What is he thinking? Leaving the mighty ACC for Fayetteville?

Nope, Vandy -> Wake would be a lateral move at best.

Wake -> Arky is about like a coach going from Hurley to Ervinton.

Think so? With all the backing and support they get at Arkansas? Not to mention academics are not a priority at Arkansas like they are at Wake Forest? I mean Wake Forest football was totally crap until Grobe got there.

Winning the ACC title in foosball is about like winning the LPD in basketball.

Well, man I would sort of agree with Bob on this. Both are big time education facilities, and football is not the key sport to either school. True, you have a better chance of winning a conference title at Wake, but you still have the chance to have better teams at Vandy, or really the same teams. Its really a lateral move IMO as well.

Arkansas is a big time academic facilty? Really? Do you by chance know the graduation rate at Arkansas for football? Wake Forest's is 96% in 2006 and for Arkansas it is 55% in 2006.
Now for ALL athletics the graduation rate for Wake Forest is 94% and Arkansas is 60%.
Arkansas is not and academics first school

arkansas basketball hasnt been relevant since corliss wiliamson and scotty thurman and that was almost 14 years ago

oh and arkansas is as big of an education facility as dook is a football powerhouse

Also. Arkansas's basketball graduation rate is a blistering 21%. You know I love SEC football but I saw information on only two schools that finished in the top 50%.
Florida at 80% and LSU had 51% graduate. Tennessee (jeez) 49%, Ga. (damn) and Forrest Gump's Alabama (HaHa!) had 39% of their players graduate!
What surprised me that in the ACC, Va Tech finished ahead of Ga. Tech....72% to 53%..that totally shocked me being that Ga. Tech is an engineering school.

Observer, we discuss athletics on here. Something your mother would not let you do. We never said we would make an academic all-star team like you did. If you do not like what you read..........take a hike!

GT is pretty much a true engineering (technical school). Most of its kids are in actual engineering majors.

VT is a land grant school that's evolved into more of a liberal arts school (sheer numbers wise) that happens to have a good engineering program. A majority of its students are not in engineering majors.

The "atheletes" major at Georgia Poly is business management. From a friend who goes there it's definitely not as hard as the true engineering majors at GT, but it's still a legitimate/challenging major (albeit you know all athletes and big time programs have "special" help). The same cannot be said about apparel and merchandising, hospitality & tourism, etc...

You have to look at schools on an individual basis. Michigan a solid academic school has a diploma mill major for its athletes (something having to do with sports). Jim Harbaugh now the head coach at Stanford but a Michigan alum caused a tussle when he said something to the effect of, Michigan puts their athletes through these useless majors and they are glorified by the school, but when they graduate the very people who cheered them on don't hire them.

The point of my ramble is the idea of a student athelete when it comes to big time college sports is a joke more often than not. Sure you'll have exceptions like the lineman at Wake Forest who's going to medical school, but seriously no...

If I remember correctly Cal-Berkeley (#1 public school in the country) has SEC like graduation rates for its football players (excluding Florida).

Stripes is comparing Vandy and Wake with nothing being said about Arkansas. They were talking about if the Vandy Coach would leave for the Wake job and that is where all the academic stuff started. Some of you all need to read the entire thread, that is what Observer was trying to tell you all in his own language.

After the struggle Nutt had with the AD and everyone else there, looks like the Hogs will be struggling themselves...to find a new coach.

I wouldn't doubt if they dont take a run at the former Southern Miss coach. Not a big name, but a dang good coach.

Really the boosters, AD and Alum are getting what they deserve. Arkansas has played some pretty good ball under Nutt. His record at Ark. is 75-48 overall and 42-32 in the SEC. He finished in the top 3 in the SEC West 7 out of 10 seasons...and got them to 8 bowls counting the one this year which he won't coach. IMO, I don't see anyone doing any better at Arkansas.
