Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
You people buy this stuff as a shoot?
-
Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Nope, there have been a few pre-arranged fights but almost all are real. Most were done years ago.
-
Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Wanderlei is simply way past his prime .. nothing at all like he used to be. Chuck pretty much swarmed all over him and rarely let up despite the two slips. Great fight overall, though. Definitely worth the wait IMO.

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Silva isn't like the "Pride" Silva because the UFC tests for steroids and Pride didn't. I predicted long ago that not being about to roid up would make Wandy very mortal.....

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Hey Gotch, is it just me or was Wanderlei much less aggressive tonight compared to in the past?
I have several Pride DVD's and I've also seen many of his fights online as well, and tonight he didn't seem the same at all.
In his PRIDE fights he would always press forward and just absolutely crush anyone in his path regardless of how big/tough/aggressive they were. It's as if he was fearless, but in this fight he seemed much more cautious which was unusual for him.
Also, whatever happened to his signature "scary staredown" in which his eyes look absolutely horrifying? Even that element of his style is gone.
It was like seeing a completely different person tonight. Don't get me wrong, he ate some huge shots and even pressed forward a few times when he was being pounded on, but even then he seemed completely different. I guess you could be right about the "steroids" thing because "back then" he was like a monster, but would steroids completely change his personality as well?

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Explained above, steroids can really make you superman.
-
Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Yeah I just now got that.. I guess you guys are right. Kind of sucks in a way because it was always crazy watching him fight. He was like a machine.
-
Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Steroids effect personality significantly in some people.
-
Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
A few really make me nervous just because you never know what they will do.

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
I've seen a couple a really strange "roid" incidents.
Years ago at the old Jay's gym in Coeburn a guy who was clearly roided up insisted on sparring Daris and went after him with guns blazing. Daris had no choice but to open up on him.
Within a minute or so every orifice, and I do mean every one, on the guys face was bleeding. Blood from his ears, eyes, everywhere.

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
St. Pierre by murder. Actually tapped hughes. rd 2

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
From the way it sounded, it could have been a flashback of me and Jay going against each other on the mat.

I don't remember you dominating J too badly

That's funny, I don't either.

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Man I thought Melvin Guillard may turn out to be a force in MMA. Guess not.

He hasn't done the things necessary to expand and diversify his game. Train submission and submission defense. Training striking and striking defense.

Re: UFC 79 : Nemesis
Was a good event last night. Mochida looked great, and I look for him to make some noise.
I don't agree with the announcers saying that "The iceman is back". IMO, he's not. Silva just didn't press him, no pressure whatsoever, and he didn't have his roids. If you sit back and wait on ole' Chucky, you'll pay.
Hughes didn't look good from the start, I think his life is more focused on his newly formed HIT Squad, his new gym (Granite City, IL), and his overall life/family in general. Georges St. Pierre is right now in his prime, I look forward to his rematch with that little S.O.B.
