Maryland has played better than I expected, you had to figure going in that UNC/Duke would be L's and they would lose another game. I'm hoping they end up 4-4 after the first 8 games, then close out 5-3 in the second half.
Virginia is awful...they live and die by the three...they put up 36 of them tonight.
Singletary had a nice shot to send em into overtime though
It was nice but it should have never come down to that...48 in the first 28 in the second...not good
UVa doesn't have that guy who can get a big bucket inside when the 3 isn't falling...their production from their posts is lacking
they have Maryland and VT coming up, both of which have guys who can score and defend in the post and play pretty good perimeter defense to minimize the 3pt%...if they win both it could springboard them to a couple more wins and a respectable season...if they get swept by VT some will call for Leitao's head
Duke wins the ACC...sadly.
UNC has good enough guards/big guys who can make ft's to lose to Duke. Duke is nasty on defense and the 3 but are really lacking any inside game at all. I don't see how Duke could stop Hansbrough. Ty Lawson isn't going to allow dribble penetration by Paulus to allow easy kickouts for the 3 either. UNC is so much more athletic than Duke I don't see how they could lose.
With the horrible defense we've been playing all year. Ive not seen one game, outside of the NC St game, where we've played well defensively.
It's not like Duke played lock down defense last night, Maryland shot over 50% from the floor. The turnovers beat Maryland and I don't see Ty Lawson giving it up enough for UNC to lose.
Having Soroye and Mikalauskas out hurts us...Scott isn't bad but they don't feed him in the post...seems like they don't have any confidence in him
by the way champ, those huskies took a beat down on saturday. I was wondering if you were still a fan since Roy and Robinson left.

You know I'm a Duke bball fan, but I don't think that'll happen. I'm pretty sure that Duke's shooting and defense have kept them in most games they've played this season, and when they're hot and the tempo's in their favor, they can blow out anybody in the nation.
However--I think they'll get tired (as everyone does) going thru the rest of the ACC schedule and end up with 2-3 losses in conference at least. The only way I see them coming back and being undefeated thru the ACC regular season is if they get Zoubek back here soon and get some great minutes from him on the inside defensively. He would be key to helping solve the inside game weakness that Duke has. I just wish he were more active of a shot blocker. Even then, I think a team like a GT, UNC, Maryland, or Clemson finds them on a cold shooting night, and plays good enough defense to pull a win away from them.
You better watch that first paragraph, the empty trophy case vultures will be out to remind you if that doesnt happen exactly as you say

LOL--good thing I didn't say if Chris Loft--er...Jon Scheyer was on that they could blow anyone out...
I'm just hoping for 9 wins so I can argue a bit on selection Sunday. Maryland has UVA and GT this week if they can win both of those and be 4-3 through 7 games I think it's possible. They dig a big hole if they lose one of these this weekend.

Nice.
It was a very good game between the treps and duke! Duke is going to have a hard time with teams that have a good big man down low! But I believe they can play with anyone in the country! I take my hat off to Gist! Great player!!! This is a best Duke team in the last 2 to 3 years! Just because of the depth!
Duke would have fits with Georgetown/Memphis/UNC. I really don't see them beating any of those three teams unless they shoot unreal from 3 point land.
Well I see where you are coming from but I don't know all about that! I mean Duke would have a hard time with them all but Duke could beat them! I mean Duke is one of the best teams in the country this year! They have so much depth and the way they can shoot! Plus they have a lot of slasher on the team! Nelson and Smith get to the basket! I like are chances! Plus you never know who is going to be the last couple of teams standing! I still wouldn't coun't out UCLA nor USC!!!
UCLA would give Duke fits imo as well, they would play hellacious defense and Kevin Love would have a field day inside.
I agree they would! But just like I said they could beat any and I mean any team in the country and i mean that!
Maryland could beat any team in the country and they are 13-8. College Basketball is like the NFL without the Patriots, anybody can beat anybody.
Stanford and Cal would be a tough matchup for Duke as well. Both of those teams have huge lineups. The Lopez twins, Hardin, and Ryan Anderson are all great players and HUGE. Anderson is one of the toughest matchup problems in the country being a 6'10 guy with the type of range he has.
to beat Duke you're gonna have to have some bigs who can score like has been said in this thread, but you're also gonna have to have 3 athletic guards so that someone quick can get matched up on Paulus...he has trouble defending people who are quicker and change pace a lot...Memphis would be a nightmare for Paulus and Duke, they like to space it out and penetrate and kick, Dorsey finishes very well around the bucket and is very athletic
Duke would be a good matchup against a team that isnt disciplined or doesnt have multiple guys who can handle the ball...even if Zoubek gets back I'm not sure how much that helps b/c it takes away from their overall athleticism...Elliot Williams with Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler will be a very solid team without many weaknesses, more like the Duke teams of the 90's
for right now, while he plays smart (most of the time) Paulus just isn't an optimal defensive match-up for Duke, especially in March
