Re: LPD All District
congrats to all who made it.

Re: LPD All District
I'm shocked that Vanover was player of the year. I wasn't able to attend very many of the games, and I know he had a good year but I'm still kinda shocked. Oh well, its good for the alma mater. Congrats to all!

Re: LPD All District
wow....mvp from a team that was what 2-20...
-
Re: LPD All District
I dont get the Player of the year choice at all, that IMO was ridiculous and I think that the coach of the year shouldve pent to Jervis hands down

Re: LPD All District
I'm surprised that he got it. Not that I didn't think he deserved it, but I figured that the teams record/performance would hurt him.
I could have seen several other players as options, but just by looking at the other players on the the All-District, it would appear to me the other teams all more or less split, or had several players who lead them at various times, or in various categories. Vanover pretty much lead Clintwood in every category, every game, and that's with people knowing they had to focus on him.
-
Re: LPD All District
You just hit on why he should have gotten it Rock. No one in the league was as relied on as much as this young man was. Yes,it was a terrible season for the Wave, but without him the scores would have been a whole lot worse. When you hand out awards like MVP,you have to look at what a player does/how much he contributes to his squad, and EV was basically all the Wave had,and still put up solid numbers. Is he the best player in the league IMO? I think an argument can be made for a few folks, but EV did more/had to do more for his team than anybody else.
-
Re: LPD All District
He must not have been too valuable if he only helped his team win two games.
-
Re: LPD All District
Had he not been on that squad, they would have went winless, probably set records for fewest points per game/season, worst margain of defeat on average, and been remembered as quite possibly the worst team to ever take the court in the LPD (which says alot, because we've had some bad teams).
-
Re: LPD All District
I know hes a great athlete and he did all that
but I dont think saving your team from some embarrassment should overshadow the other players in the LPD that the team leaned on them to make plays and score and still helped them to big wins or a championship in the regular season
-
Re: LPD All District
If u was voting for MVP of the District i would say Evan shouldnt have gotten it but u was voting for Player of the Year i think he should get it... i mean usually ur MVP comes from the winning team but Player of the Year is the best player in the District regardless of there record... thats just my opinion
-
Re: LPD All District
Its player of the year, not most valuable player. Player of the year goes to the best individual player in the district. If Evan was the best player, then he deserves the award regardless of team accomplishments. If it was MVP, then we could have a different argument.
-
Re: LPD All District
I see IBAWAVE beat me too the punch by about a minute.
-
Re: LPD All District
Well see thats where I dont see where he overshadowed any of the other good players in the LPD in that sense
-
Re: LPD All District
he averaged 22.5 pts a game , 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals a game ... thats a pretty good stat sheet in my opinion
-
Re: LPD All District
Oh Im not saying he didnt have some good stats...Im just saying they werent that much better or better than the others
-
Re: LPD All District
well all i know is evidently the coaches did ... they are the ones who voted the all district team
-
Re: LPD All District
well if they didn't have vanover they would have went from a staggering 2-21 to 0-23....big difference...begley was more valuable to his team as was martin
-
Re: LPD All District
The Most Valuable Player cannot come from one of the worst teams in the district. If he was the most valuable player, he would have led his team to more wins. I know stats have been thrown out there, but i want to see the stats that matter....what percentage did he shoot from the floor...i am not sure of these stats but i would like to know....cause if he averaged 22 a game but shot 30 times a game...those arent good stats.
-
Re: LPD All District
I think Martin was the most valuable player. If you take him off of PV's team then they don't win the district.
-
Re: LPD All District
I'm not really that surprised.
I hate it for the more deserving players, but this is LPD basketball personified.

Re: LPD All District
I just dont think he was the best candidate
-
Re: LPD All District
Begley sshot almost 50% on the year, taking around 380 shots....you cant tell me thats not pretty damn good...some of the best shooting around here
-
Re: LPD All District
Begley had a great year. I'd dare say noboby had to work harder for his shots than Vanover.
-
Re: LPD All District
Hey raider13 why don't you quit being biased and realize that what you say isn't going to change anyone's minds.
-
Re: LPD All District
I agree with Raider13. If Begley avg 20 points a game and shot 50% from the floor, he should have been the player of the year. I mean everyone keeps chiming in with opinions....lets see some numbers here. What was martins numbers and vanovers?
-
Re: LPD All District
It has nothing to do with him being on my team...stats are stats...Im not saying he is a shoe in...I tihnk Martin or sproles had just as good as a chance....take the 3 away from their teams and there wouldnt have been tr champs this year cuz none of the 3 teams wouldve won it...but take away vanover and you take away what the 2 wins they had all year, big difference there...no being bias, I just know begleys stats a whole lot better than sproles or Martins or ...if someone has them, then put them up and theyll prolly all be close...they had just as good seasons and out of those 3 ..one of them shouldve got it, but imo one that did wasnt the right one
-
Re: LPD All District
beg to differ about the sproles comment... wise could of won with or without sproles. he avg 7 points i think.
-
Re: LPD All District
Saying Begley is deserving of PoY is not biased no matter where you're from or who you play for. His teammate thinks he is very deserving, so what? He's right so get the hell over it.
-
Re: LPD All District
You could make an argument for 4-5 guys. Fact of the matter is that no one was clear-cut dominant (in a league that was not dominant). It's hard to get bummed about any of them. I could live with the selection of any of them.
-
Re: LPD All District
the coaches are the ones that voted for the player of the year...why even argue the point
-

To quote Ricky Bobby--"That just happened!!!"
So...you're kinda wrong there. Actually, really wrong that it "cannot" come from one of the worst teams in the district...because it just did.
Lobbying on here for Begley/Martin/the walrus Ku-ku-kachoo isn't gonna change anything. We get it--some people wanted a teammate or a buddy to win it instead of Vanover. However, it's already been decided that Vanover won it. He's POY--no use to worry about who's who and what's what.
-
Re: LPD All District
And that maybe why it is called Player of the Year, not Most Valuable Player.
-
Re: LPD All District
Here's my point of view--Vanover's the ONLY kid in the LPD that I saw that was a real threat to throw up 40 or 50 in any game this year. He was THE player that anyone had to key on when playing against Clintwood, no offense to the rest of their players. Had he not had to pick up more of the slack when it came to handling the basketball and running the offense, then who knows what kind of #'s he might have put up. You put him on a team w/more talent like a Burton/Appy/PV, then he averages (yes, averages) 30 a game, no problem, because defensive pressure would have been much less and someone else would have been handling the basketball more in offensive sets--and he would have been free to play his offensive game and focus on that and only that.
-
Re: LPD All District
You all are beating a dead horse. Evan Vanover was chosen Player of the Year. Congrats to him.
-
Re: LPD All District
I'm not trying to get it changed.
Just putting my opinion in on the matter.
-
Re: LPD All District
As am I....if course I would want my teammate and buddy to get it, but thats just not the case here....I didnt just say Begley was the only one...Martin or Bolling couldve gotten it just as easy....Im only lobbying for him because I know his stats and seen all of his games haha this year and I didnt see the others, it makes sense....Im not trying to change it, I know I cant lol but I am just stating my opinion about the subject

Not being bias, I think Ive stressed that enough...get over it
