It is a joke (see my other thread). The PAC 10 sends a 19-14 squad and a 18-13 squad. What an overrated conference (which this tourney may very well show)
I hate VT but thats a joke, for the ACC to get 4 teams? ACC needs to abandon the Big Ten Challenge and take on the MVC. Put an end to some of this, I really hope the coaches in the ACC start playing the MVC/WCC/A10/etc.
The A-10 got the shaft with Temple though. We were all told that these tourneys would bear heavy weight,yet Temple,who won the whole shabang there is seeded below a Miami???
I've got a gripe with a lot of what went down in that selection.
It is that way every year though sadly. There is no way to perfect a system like the NCAA Tournament.
Very true. However, I have a hard time going along with the Big East getting 8 teams in, the last team Villanova. Villanova lost to the worst team in the ACC, then you look at Arizona another bubble team with a loss to a another bottom feeder in the ACC. Just doesn't add up to me, like I said I really hope the ACC beefs up the OOC schedule and takes some teams to the shed.

Schedule has more cupcakes than a Hostess factory, lost at JUGGERNAUT Oakland, and was beaten by nearly/more than 20,what 5-6 times? Lost 72-43 to stanford.
Miami will lose in the first round to St. Mary's I believe. Greenberg just about made me sick a moment ago wanting them to expand the tourney due to "student welfare". Thats what the NIT is for.
Not sure about that one. St.Mary's didn't even win their tourney if I am not mistaken. I wouldn't bet a plug nickel on either one.
You are missing something there ID. They did lose to Stanford by 30, but they also beat Stanford in the other matchup.
St. Marys is pretty solid.
That Miami/St. Mary's game will be a close one I think. The Omar Samhan kid who's 6'11 will cause matchup problems for Miami's front line (though I think they're more athletic).
It all rides on whether or not Jack McClinton's game shows up when the lights come on for the first round. If not, Miami's stay will be short.
No matter who wins that game though, the winner gets a matchup w/Texas...no doubt in my mind that Texas will rout either team.

Perhaps the VHSL is running the tourney.

they neded one more to get in and fell short
as for the "conference" arguments........if you watched it on CBS.......it was said directly that they dont use any sort of conference numbers when making selections
that was the response to why the acc was the toughest conference and the BE was the 5th yet the BE had double the number of teams get in
Todays problem, not just basketball- life ain't fair and we, as the human race (the folks in charge of things, it seems) don't use a lot of common sense.
Teams do get consideration by name. Kentucky an 11 seed? PUHLEEEZ!
Thats why my friends a playoff in college football would be no different. An 8-4 ND team would lets say get in over a 10-2 Auburn or something of the like. Yes I'm a Tennessee guy, but you guys all know if Duke or Kentucky were 29-4, regular season champs of their respective conference AND, AND, number 1 RPI, there is no way they would not be a number 1 seed. No freakin way.
The Georgia Bulldogs are hated by many right now including the VT's the other ACC teams who got snubbed.
If UVA had went 18-12 this year,they'd be in the NIT (Not Invited Tournament)
My wife really thought the NIT stood for Not In Tournament, when she said that one day with a serious look on her face I fell to the floor laughing.
Arizona made it in due to their active streak.
I had no problem with Kentucky making it. They were playing very good team ball down the stretch, even without Patterson. I think if the games had been played in the Ga Dome, Kentucky would have won their game. Their crowd is worth a couple points 9 out of 10 times. I do think VT got hosed, as they were playing pretty good ball down the stretch. That being said, if #0 goes up for a rebound with 2 hands, they beat NC and are in.
I kind of get what was said by Techs coach, when he was referencing expanding the field being equivalent to football. How many bowl games do we have now? We have more football teams that get rewarded at the end of the season than basketball.
Percentage wise yes, but not total.

I would've taken Tech over Miami. However, Miami finished with a better overall record. I think your out of conference play has a lot to do with where you end up.
I like Bob Knight's solution. Have one extra day of basketball, you'll have 128 total teams. The tournament might be a week longer, but you'll narrow the field down to the top 64 teams, and won't have any arguments over anything.
Also Miami had better wins than Tech did. Tech was 1-7 I believe against the RPI top 50.
Instead of whining, VT should go to the NIT and prove they should have been in.
zona's SOS was top 5 overall, and their RPI has been high all year
i hate vt too, but i really cant see taking baylor, with no real quality wins.
tech didnt have a signature win, a top ten win, that kept them out.
georgia and temple are the two teams that vt can thank, they kept them and zona state out.
Personally, I'd rather see Tech in the NIT.
1st, NIT teams get to play tourney games in front of their student body.
2nd, even on ESPN Classic, Tech will get more TV exposure than any 12 or 13 seed in the dance does (unless they win both games this weekend).
3rd, I'd like A new NIT champions t-shirt.
4th, it's not the CBI!!!
Look at Tech, how many teams in the Tourney did they beat? They split with Miami. Other than that, they played and lost to the other 3 ACC teams in the Tourney. They lost to Butler, Gonzaga, Penn State, Old Dominion, and Richmond.
Given their play in the ACC Tourney though, I thought they deserved a bid, a bid over a team like Arizona or Villanova. Georgia winning the SEC tourney is probably what kept Tech and/or Arizona St. out of the tourney.
I agree with Bob Knight from last night when he said that there should be no automatic bids. To think that UVA could have won the ACC tourney and been in the field of 65 is astonishing. Seriously the sun can shine on even a dog's ass every now and then.

The automatic bid is what makes the conference tournaments exciting. I don't even like B-ball...but I can handle a team coming out of nowhere and getting in based on a tournament championship...gives em something to play for. If VT or ASU had done what UGA did, they'd be in as well. If you can't win your own conference, you really don't have an argument for sitting at home. Every team has that chance.
See thats where Greenberg and others are wrong for comparing football and basketball postseasons. Truly, there are much more basketball teams that make the postseason than in football, and a higher percentage. Every team but those in the Ivy league, or those who have moved up from D2 recently make the postseason.
Maybe they could revamp the b-ball bracket to conference tie ins....but you still have to include the midmajors...maybe then there wouldn't be so much whining when a team that would be lucky to get out of the second round got left at home cuz they couldn't win their conference tournament.
Actually if you just talk about football bowl games as the post season, there were 35 bowl games last year. In D1 football, there 119 programs. 70 of those 119 played football after the regular season was over. For a percentage of about 59%.
There are 341 D1 Basketball teams. Of those 341, 65 get to goto the NCAA, add the 32 from the NIT, and you get 97 of 341 basketball teams going to the post season, for a percentage of about 28%.
So maybe 97 seems like a lot of teams playing in the post season, but the percentages are lower, and even the number is lower if you take only the NCAA tournament into consideration.
