Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
The four men who are charged with the first-degree murder and armed burglary of former Redskins star Sean Taylor won't face the death penalty, according to multiple media reports.
Prosecutors in the case have waived the death penalty for Jason Scott Mitchell, Eric Rivera Jr., Venjah Hunte and Charles Wardlow, the Fort Myers News Press and the Naples Daily News reported Sunday night.
All four men, if convicted, face life in prison.
Hunte's lawyer Michael Hornung said he learned of the decision by prosecutors late Friday.
"They would have had to show it was premeditated," Hornung said. "I believe that it's appropriate that they waive the death penalty."
The current theory of the crime, that Rivera was the alleged shooter, likely prevented prosecutors from seeking the death penalty since Rivera was a minor at the time of the shooting.
"The fact that the prosecution won't seek the death penalty has been a foregone conclusion," Taylor family spokesman Richard Sharpstein told the Fort Myers News Press. "The family is still supporting the prosecutors and looking for justice to be done."
Taylor, an All-Pro safety, was shot during a botched robbery attempt at his Miami home in November. He died a day later from wounds suffered during the break-in.
The trial for all four defendants is scheduled to begin Aug. 25.

Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
we need to get back to using the death penalty more...That would help the economy tons, quit paying to feed these rejects...
If convicted, hang 'em at noon the next day...simple enough, and very cost efficient
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
i agree
even after a death sentence they drag the [censored] out for years and years with appeals
enough of that [censored]......its a waste of taxpayer dollars
just [censored] fry em

Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
It should also be law that every american watch an execution at least once every 8 years, LIVE!!!!
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
id prefer a lottery for a random american to be executed at least once every 8 years
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty

my idea to curtail illegals from coming here is simple
you get caught.......you dont get deported.......you get executed
after a couple of INS raids lead to the executions of an entire small mexican village
they may have second thoughts
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
Costs more these days to keep an inmate on death row than it does to house them for life (because of all the mandatory appeals and crap).
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
Life in prison is MUCH worse than death. Life in prison is the most severe way to punish a man. I used to not think so,but now that I know otherwise,I cringe everytime I see a life sntence.
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
screw the appeals
you get one appeal.....it starts 30 days after your sentence is handed down........if you dont win your appeal.......you have 7 days......then its time to go
another way to help control immigration is place the new military ray guns every 1k yards along the boarder
if you can survive running through that you can stay......if not......its time for a grilled mexican salad

I'm not gonna argue that, I'm sure you'd know before any of us...But, It sure would be alot cheaper to just hang um

first off its about the cost
why should our tax dollars go to house and feed these wastes of flesh for the next 40-80 years?
secondly.......im also not a fan of the current execution system
i believe the method in which you kill somebody is also the method you need to go by as well
for example......i firmly believe timothy mc veigh should have been tied to a chair in and locked in the back of a box track loaded with explosives and blown up
the same way i would want these 4 little [censored] to be shot in the thigh and bleed out

Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
Problem being that it actually costs more to execute than house for life. That is crazy, but it is true (because of the ridiculous amount of appeals and delays)

again thats why we limit the appeals to one within 30 days
that will help to keep the housing and food costs down and speed up the execution

Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
When we founded this country,we instilled due process of law. In cases like this,it bites us squarely on the arse.
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
see thats just it......due process is due process
but 86 appeals over 12 years is just excessive, costly and frankly un-necessary
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
Due process is what distinguishes our nation from Saddam's regime where folks were hastily (and more times than not) wrongly executed. We have to take the good with the bad my friend.

Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
From what I remember he was shot in the leg. It hit a main artery. Proper first response could have saved him. I dont think that was premeditated.

he was shot in a major artery and almost bled out at the scene
they knew who he was........and they were going to rob his house
if they didnt expect him to be home as claimed......why bring a weapon?
pure BS
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
I have to agree with BWC.
-
Re: Unfortunately won't get the death penalty
seriously.......they claimed they didnt know think he would be home......so then why the need to bring a gun?
were they going to hunt squirrels in the backyard after they robbed the house?
were they planning to go rob somebody else who they thought would be home after they robbed his house?
you dont bring a gun unless you are prepared to use it.......[censored] them
fry the little [censored]
i dont want any of my tax dollars to go to feed and house these shitbags
i hope they get gang raped in jail and all die from an uncontrollable bleed of their [censored]
