Forever will remember the name Jay Bruce........
Yeah, especially the relievers. That was a sad series and looks like the Braves injury bug just keeps going up. Diaz, Kotsay go on the DL late last week, and then Hudson and Boyer get hurt yesterday. Luckily, the BP should be solid within a couple of weeks. Smoltz should be back this week and Mike Gonzalez hopefully returning stronly after Tommy John surgery last year.
Bruce sure has looked good. It hasn't hurt any of my fantasy teams either.
The Braves definately picked the wrong week to play the Reds, they are on a roll right now thanks to Mr. Bruce. I think the part that has amazed me the most about him is his plate discipline, his OBP is out the roof and he has walked in just about every game. He is going to be a good one, just hate we ran into him when he was so hot. Eventually he will have a bad series or two, just too bad it wasn't the last one. Braves are just terrible on the road. If they don't get that turned around soon they will not be in the playoffs.
I agree...... They play the two teams above them over the next two series, even though it is early, I feel they are two huge series considering they got swept against the Reds.
I concur. They have lost 20 straight 1 run road games going back to August of last year. Hopefully with the bullpen hopefully getting a little better, that will change. As long as they stay in contention I think/hope the Braves will go for a starter before the trade deadline. Should be some good ones available this year. Jorge Campillo has been a nice surprise.
Campillo and Jurrjens have both pitched really well this year and have been nice suprises. The bullpen needs some help which as Stripes said, it hopefully coming. I would also like to see them go after a big time starter before the trade deadline, with the loss of Smoltz to the bullpen they need one. Chuck James just can't get it done, Jurrjens is holding his own, hopefully they keep Campillo in the rotation and he is holding his own. One more big time starter and I think they will be doing just fine.
To add to the last post....... Jo Jo Reyes looks great on some days and then awful in others. Just depends on which Reyes you get.
I won't complain on Reyes and yes Jurrjens has been everything he was advertised as in the Renteria trade. Sadly right now they only have 3 true OFs on the roster due to the injuries. They are pluggin in Greg Norton who is slow as molasses, and Omar Infante in some, but I think they will be okay. Definitely a huge week this week.
Smolz had a rough outing tonight giving up 2 runs.
You called it Stripes, the lack of "true" outfielders hurt tonight. Smoltz didn't help his cause tonight either with his pitches, too many up in the zone. Infante could have kept it tied but looked like a high schooler out there.
Escobar bails them out!
Way to start out this rough stretch, finally being able to win a game from 1 down. Who would have thought Bobby would have given Escobar the green light on a 3-0 count and he unloaded on it.
I guess I got to see one of Smolt'z last appearances this season when I saw him over Memorial Weekend at the Smokies.
He says he is going to try and pitch again, but I have a feeling this is it.
as a mets fan im thrilled but as a baseball fan it sucks anytime a HOFer is forced out before they are ready.......or on the other side......stay around too long and ruin themselves
I'd say this is it as well...
