They actually did a few times last year if I am not mistaken. They only ran a couple of plays from it and of course wasn't near as successful as Turner running it. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img]
I have to say that this is a shocker and I just don't see the people in Appy being too happy about this. Can you imagine when Travis Turner walks into Riggs Stadium in Baby Blue. Where is that game this year?
According to our master schedule, that game will be at Riggs.
I thought at some point last year or the year before they had ran it with Delmas at QB. Very interesting I must say.
It would be better for them to run the T than throw it 90% of the time.
I wonder if some of the Appy folks will be a bit more open to consoladation now.

As far as LPD team go IMHO Pound is the only team in which a coaching change would not shock me

Wise has an assistant returning from a previous stint, but other than that I am not aware of any other changes there.

Not really. I think that most of the people there were expecting something like that to happen.

Tom Turner is no longer coaching at Appalachia, Travis Turner has moved to Lee then to Powell Valley, and lots of other odd changes here and there. It has seemed pretty weird these past few years.

I just feel that it's weird how Tom Turner had coached at Appalachia for so many years and is now no longer with us and that Travis Turner will be at Powell Valley this year although that school was pretty much one of his biggest rivals back in the 90's when Appalachia and Powell Valley were powerhouses.
I think it's pretty strange to see these things occurring because it almost changes the mood/atmosphere of the different schools, etc. in the area but that's just how I feel about it at this time. I'm still anticipating this season because I feel it's going to be a lot different than the previous ones in more ways than just changes at Appalachia and Powell Valley.
Welcome back to the LPD ,Travis.
Now they need a DC . I feel the defense has been lacking the intensity and ability to adjust since Barry Jones left . His defense would more often than not dictate how the opposing "O" played not vice versa .
Good luck to Travis! As a former teammate, I am happy for him as we all should be. This is a step in the right direction for him, he has a great football mind and IMO could be a future great.
As for Appy, to be honest with you I don't quite get a chance to keep up with them like I used to be able to. In my heart I will always root for the Dawgs, but I've also grown to like and respect all others in the LPD as well. Riggs stadium isn't a guaranteed venture for me on Friday night's in the LPD, and Im kinda glad to have my options open like that.
That move doesn't bother me at all. I'd be happy too, no matter where I was, just to be getting a paycheck.
I think it is a smart move on his part. Phil will in all likelihood be retiring soon and Travis could be right in line for the job, especially when consolidation comes back around.

It's like anything else, anybody from Appy thats really worth anything always leaves for PV.

...because every year that passes that they don't win a state title in football the idiots that sat in on the present coaches interview want to run that guy off and get a new guy they can sit in on his interview with and then fire.
I wonder if this move shows that even Travis realizes that Appy's program is slowly crumbling to the ground? I could be wrong and it could be (and likely is) the fact that Powell Valley is simply offering him more overall, but it's just something to think about.
I believe he definitely made the right choice overall seeing as how Appalachia will be in a pretty dire situation this year when it comes to football. Not that I am a fortune teller or know exactly how they'll perform, but when you look at who they lost and who they kept - or rather who they didn't keep - it almost makes you wonder exactly what they'll do to stay alive this year and exactly how long it will be until they can rebuild the program.
Just wondering, but how much coin exactly could PV's OC position be worth? I always thought those type of coaching positions were just like pocket change for teachers and the only real money to be earned was HC positions.
Congrats to Travis. Any chance, not trying to start anything, but sometime down the road he replaces Robbins??

Id say its a very good possibility. I'm sure thats exactly what the brass at PV had in mind when they made this decision to hire him. It's not like they are easing him in, first year OC would be pretty tough coming to a new school especially one with the tradition of PV. Though at the end of they day they probably think they will ease him into a head coaching position someday. I guess we will know more after this upcoming season, to see how Travis helps them.
BTW, I keep forgetting to mention this but this was in today's Coalfield under "sports shorts", id expect an article sometime before August.
He wont be replacing Robbins, by the way what coach left for this position to be open.
You know, he may just be coaching where he can until he can get a shot at Appy. Wasn't it supposed to be that once Travis passed his big test that Austin was going to step down? Or was that just a big rumor? For that matter, did Travis pass that test? You can tell how much I keep up with. lol

Nothing specific but there were the transfers last season and more this offseason plus it seemed that there were alot of folks that wanted a different coach in the 1st place.
IMHO if Pound does not do better than 1-9 this season they will have a new coach next year (that is my opinion only I KNOW nothing LOL)
